I almost completely gave up on this after getting every thing loose including the castle nut but was stuck on getting castle nut removal and then I saw you separated the joint complete, thats what made me successful Harbor Freight $19.99 ball joint press is useless for this job . I hammered the knuckle several time and then use pry bar. Thanks.

The other A1 video for the toyota 2011 -17. The lady had to take the axle nut . The way you install so simple. Does the axle must come out for older car.
I just did the repair on my 2004 camry and the procedure in the video was spot on. I would recommend using a picklfork to get the ball joint out since leaving the axle in will make it difficult to use the other seperator tool. As you could see in the video it didn't fit.
The ball joint in my 05 didnt release that easily. I tried a crowbar, a hammer, beating the spindle all over, and no go. Do note if you use the cv axle base to pry on the ball joint stud, you can goof up the cv axle clamp like I did, and have to replace it. I had to use a fork to release it from the spindle (It will destroy the old ball joint boot but if it's going to be replaced, not a big deal). Next time, I think I will try a pitman arm remover.
I recommend a metal hammer not a rubber mallet i almost split a rubber mallet in half hitting it so much. I tried everything to get the ball joint out. In the end i had to cut the boot from the ball joint then hit the part of the ball joint that is underneath the boot with a metal hammer. That is the only thing that worked. I had to remove it from the control arm before i could do that
The nuts have plastic pressure bushings in them. They act as the "anti-loose" protection. That's what they are for. Do not use an impact wrench to tighten this kind if nuts. As the impact turns them at a fast speed, plastic melts from friction, and looses its gripping ability - THEN the nut can get loose with time. Did you notice that he used a HAND ratchet to tighten them? - That's why! VERY IMPORTANT!
You know I bought parts from Toyota Auckland they did not include new nut and others bits I have to buy them separately not cool at all yet watching this video you have all the fitting nuts and bolt how grateful is bud friendly.
Thanks for checking us out. Most replacement parts do not include new hardware. The original hardware or new hardware would need to be sourced to complete the installation. Thank you! +Re George
Hello there. Great Video. I am replacing my Sienna bolt joint soon very similar to this one. Just one question. At the end of the video you stepped on the brakes. I did not see you mess with the brakes or the caliper in this case.. Maybe I missed it.. Not criticizing just want to understand why is this necessary.. I like watching your videos, I been able to do a lot of stuff on my car and family cars saving lots of money. I used to pay for everything including carwash and oil changes.. Don't have the money to pay for those services anymore. Thanks for your help..
JJ Arredondo that was actually a weird edit where the last minute of the video included the ending to the Brake replacement video they made ... odd, but not related to the tie rod replacement
5:30 It doesn't seem that easy to remove the ball joint from the control arm like it is in the video. I got it to the point where a pry bar will fit between the ball joint and the control arm, it's not easy to get it to move evenly. It would be easier if I had a floor lift instead of a jack. The pin was easier, the bolt on the pin was harder.
@@1AAuto its funny how all the videos ive watched on this no one says anything about needing an alignment after. If i had known that i would have waited till i had money for an alignment. Michael Woodburn to get the lower control arm off requires you to have at least two jack stands and a floor jack. You will have to disconnect the sway bar end link to strut. Why I love Toyota’s. A lot of thought out into every part so the average guy can still put the wrench to use.

Terrific video. It's nice to see how you solved getting the ball joint free. Don't see that too often.
I’m buying thus part from 1a auto just because of the video. We don’t get this much support from others lol

Its a good design by Toyota. Alot less work than having to press the ball joint into the control arm !!!!

Has anyone bought these control arms for their Camry from 1A Autoparts? The price is fantastic compared to Napa. How do they compare? How is the ride?
Very good video and very helpful. Really good job.
You guys do it to seem so easy, thank you. Do you know if the torque is the same for an 04 camry?
Torque is the same for an 2004 camry and on. 55 ft lb. The older 02 and 03 are different depending on the bolt it could be in the 90's
Good job mannnnn.

There wasn't enough clearance for me to get a ring spanner in, I ended up having to remove the axle to get a balljoint seperator on it
Same thing with my Avalon.
You can use a picklfork instead. Rent one from your local parts store if you need to. Then you won't have to pop the axle out.
Will the process and torque specs be similar for an 08 ES350?
+Kirby Reynolds Always refer to a Haynes manual or something for your specific vehicle because torque specs can change year after year
I used a pickle fork to remove ball joint
Really nice and easy explanatory video. I checked the manual, i guess the torque of the nuts should be over 90 ft. lb or am I wrong?
+Misbizk Are you referring to the lug nuts ? We include the recommended torque specs throughout the video. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
How tight to bolt down the castle nut? Depending how tight could have premature wear on the new ball joint?
+HUOT E It should bottom out for you, then you can slide the cotter pin in place
91 ft-lbs for the ball joint to knuckle bolt
I used a pickle fork ..couple whacks n it was free
Why do you put music in the background? It's not too loud on this video, but it detracts from what I can hear.
You could just turn the wheel out, and expose the knuckle this way, THEN hit it with a sledge. It would pop right out.
Good luck with that
@@Tyronebigggums that's how you're supposed to do it, it works every time

You're supposed to torque the nuts with the Suspension loaded.
What should the torque setting be for the "castle nut" in your video be? Thanks

91 ft-lbs for the ball joint to knuckle bolt
