On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you prefer more up close and personal dogfights consider the IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battle series and experience intense WWII aerial combat over famous battlefields such as Stalingrad, Moscow, Rhineland and Normandy. Fight in and against Russian, American, German, British warbirds such as the P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, Bf-109, FW-190, Spitfire, Hurricane and rugged IL-2 Sturmovik attack plane. You can also fly legendary SPADS, Fokkers and Camels in WWI dogfights over the trenches of WWI and discover your inner Red Baron! And all of this can be experienced in jaw dropping virtual reality!
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Thank you all for watching, let me know your thoughts on the new IL-2 clouds below, I think its a good change in the right direction and adds a lot graphically to the sim. I also didn't notice any performance issues with the new clouds which is also good news.
J20 vs f22 BVR come on mannnnnnn
typo in the game's name :P
F22 vs. trio of Bandit Unknowns
Me262 vs P38?? Cool vids dude
Take Care All
Today I learned that when a P-51 departs flight, it makes R2D2 screaming noises.
This comment cracked me up haha😂 ty! U made my day
Nothing quite scratches the itch of a dogfight like WW2 sims. Say GS, would you be able to do head to head fights like in DCS in IL-2? It would be neat seeing how the modern tactics translate to ww2 fighters
I would love to see that as well!
I'm loving this game and how it's growing...I wouldn't know having no experience with either, but this feels a little more accessible/less intimidating to get into than DCS. I'm gonna save for some VR and try it out I think. Thanks for being one of the best creators man.
In addition, your gunnery is SO much better in VR!
If u want a cheaper and or less performance heavy experience you could get Track IR, VR is superior in most cases but I personally feel more comfortable flying longer missions with track IR, ofc this is up to preference and u can do what u want but just go over all the options and that, try to get into the VR community and brands and such, honestly there isn't a lot u can buy atm since it is between the Quest 2 and Index.
Be careful with VR, some people cannot stand it without dizzyness/disorientation/nausea. Find someone with it to try it out or make sure you have an ironclad return policy like Amazon Prime where you can return it for any reason. Especially if you wear eyeglasses.
I have both, and Il-2 is definitely more accessible than DCS. DCS is definately fun and challenging, but sometimes, I really just want to fly and fight without having to know what 40-50 steps I need to perform in a specific airframe just to start the engine and get off the ground. Of course, in Il-2, you can always turn up the difficulty if you want, do all the engine/oil/radiator management yourself. But if you want to focus on the fun parts and let the game do that for you automatically, you can.
The WWI stuff in VR is particularly stunning. That sensation of sitting inside the open air cockpit in a plywood and frabric crate a thousand feet in the air is just amazing!
It is definitely easier to get into than DCS. I just started a few weeks ago. There are two realism levels and lots of options to help get you going and after you are comfortable with the flight model and you have a feel for a plane you like you can up the realism and take full manual control of the engine and learn all the cockpit gauges. Enemies are marked on the map and hud and that can also be disabled once you are able to identify friend from foe visually. Try it out. I'm absolutely obsessed now.
I personally prefer the WWI & WWII action it feels more engaging certainly over the rate fighting 1-2 circle dances of the more modern engagements. Great content though as always.
Gotta say I love these WW2 ones so much more than the BVR. And very glad you're doing these every day, been totally addicted for months now.
There is nothing like the VR aspect of the game and the new clouds. My last mission was a Bomber Escort and there were some low clouds and haze and I had to literally fly instruments because I couldn't see the ground and couldn't tell which way was up or down ...still came out of this with one kill. The clouds were a sound update although frustrating trying to fly in the soup and VR just brings it all to reality!!
Some lightning, hail, snow, and heavy rainfall would be cool too. Throw in some challenging curveballs to make the dogfights even more exciting and unpredictable.
That takes it out of reality and turns it into an Arcade game.
Fighters couldn't fly in heavy rain, hail, ETC.
And as for exciting and unpredictable, try playing the game on realistic.
Weather like that would keep aircraft grounded , this is ww2 sim not a sci fi.
And default swastikas for the German planes.
A plane so good even 70 years later they made a song about it . Nothing like a G6 :D
Thanks GS for showcasing VR here, as I've been considering setting up a high-spec sim rig and was trying to decide between Track IR and VR.
"Good day to you , sir." LOL!
What a time to be alive.
I wish you could hear the Bf-109's beautiful supercharger in the cinematic shots as it flies by
Il-2 rocks, i love it, started to play it again with the update. Great video growling!
Not much could be more terrifying than what those pilots went through, couldnt imagine being on either side and trying to limp home after being damaged and check your 6 and see a enemy plane dive out of the clouds heading right at you knowing there is absolutely nothing you can do.....
The P-51 is the Cadillac of the sky and helped win in the E.T.O & P.T.O. With saying that the ME-109 was a beast for sure, it all came down to the pilot.
Yup! U could have the best plane but it wont give them any chances if they dont know how to fly :)
I am also currently enjoying the p51 pilot career. Its so much fun when u fire a short burst, hit the engine and he starts burning!
The clouds are awesome! Funny how most of your kills end up with them in an inverted spin. Just picked up this game when you posted about it being on sale last month. Looks awesome on my comp and I can't wait to really tie into it. Would love to get VR but not sure I have enough horsepower in my computer.
Try track ir gives the same movement as see n here
2:48 That first P-51 sounds like R2-D2
Reeeeeeeeeeee
Great video as always - love to see the WWII content! Would be great to see some more 1v1 dogfights from a merge with WWII aircraft.
Love the vids man keep it up. I also can’t wait to get my vr set
Cool! Some P-51 jockey pulled a hammer head on you. Gutsy. Love those Mg151/20's.
These VR- Clips are so good, almost cinematic 👌
A great feeling when there's a new notification GS has uploaded a vid :)
I found him cause of the il2 videos.. i wish he would upload just a bit more ww2 stuff! I am greedy for that stuff haha
2:57 R2D2, IS THAT YOU?
Awesome video and nice flying! well done :)
I checked for a video on the g6 yesterday and didnt find anything love to see its up now
Do they have the Tie Fighter too? That would be fun in a WW2 scenario.
You like the 109 because it reminds you more of the jets you usually fly.
@ 2:49 it’s getting realistic when you can hear the pilot scream on the way down :)
At 5:31, that canopy should be one big red splat…
Like the new improvements. Be nice to see more variable In performance. You can have a slug for an engine. Turn rate. Ect. There is % performance thats acceptable tolerance.
Really nice kills there; the clouds look good to me.
The 109 has some claustrophobic cockpit
02:18 "come OOON please, come on come on, YES! I love doing that!"(Deflection shooting) - Hans-Joachim Marseille somewhere over north Africa, 1942...probably
Just watched the Movie Der Stern Von Afrika. Its a realy great movie about him, a bit old but still gold😅
The battles look epic, are you using quick mission builder for this?
Wish I could get my VR working properly in this, so I can really experience it
I love your vids. Specially those WWI and WWII
Man this game's looks changed so much since the last time I saw it!
Always happy to see the 109!
Your cannon timing was on point today. Was that the 30 mm. Ah ok I was gonna say
Great video GS!!
Love you work. Good day to you sir
are the clouds updated in all IL-2 instances? /I have BoS/
Yes it’s a general update for all DLCs and Maps as far as I know.
Do the new clouds look good in vr (unlike the new clouds in dcs had a lot of shimmering in vr when they came out)?
I prefer any WWII fighter with the guns / cannons in the nose so that there are no real convergence problems…
The clouds here are way better than in DCS
Is there a way to get rid of the yoke/flight stick in the cockpit? In the P38J, the enormous yoke blocks almost all of the gauges.
Amazing how aerodynamics suddenly cease to function when a plane is damaged. Dead planes with full wings 90 deg to air direction.
Those clouds are great.
This isn't an NSA supercomputer. When the damage threshold is reached, the destroyed model of the aircraft is spawned. Use your brain, Heinrich.
@@debbiestimac5175 they can render clouds correctly so the destroyed plane model could be better. Something for them to work on, Dallas Debbie!
@@dass1333 Says, Das Hitler.
How are you able to see planes from far away in vr? I have a quest 2 and planes just fade out of existence if they’re a couple kilometers out
Great seeing warbirds in action! 👍
Love WW2 content 😎
Great vid! I love this stuff!!!!
I’m seriously considering trying these flight simulators out. I enjoy your videos and, while I’m sure there is a learning curve, you make this game look interesting and fun.
Or… maybe I’ll just be fodder. Either way, your videos have spiked my interest.
I 100% would. Its fun and there are entry hotas for more immersion that arent all that expensive.
@@nismo07 have you tried it?
@@av7610 yes. GS is the reason i even knew about IL-2. Was playing war thunder and dcs before. Still trying to find the best settings for my setup
Everyone is fodder to start, the important part is learning from your mistakes!
@@djbiscuit1818 thank you!
Dre Phuror would have been pleased with your performance.
Great new clouds. I love the BF 109.
Yes! Its a beast in the right hands (not mine lol). Sometimes just 1 tapping poor p47s out of the sky with the 30mm😁
If I want to play this IL2 with updated graphics, schould I buy IL2 battle for moscow on steam, or which game?
This is mint but what op sys does it work on
It sounds like you can hear their R2 units screaming as they plummet now?
I'm from thailand🇹🇭 your video is so perfect!
Hi can I please ask what are the specs on the pc that you run il2 and DCS on please?
I’m looking into returning to pc flight sims but it’s been quite a while. Just would be interested in your setup please. Enjoying the videos 👍
hello mark, my specs are in the video description but my PC is a little overkill you can run DCS and IL-2 on a much cheaper PC than mine.
@@GrowlingSidewinder thank you,
so according to this game, which WWII aircraft was the best dor dogfights? Spitfire?
Being a tech artist, I personally think the most aspect needed for il2 for its graphics is the PBR(Physically based rendering) approach in the render system, that'll improve a lot.
Agreed. One thing DCS does much better than Il-2 is rendering objects that almost look photoreal. Il-2 does not. Try as it might, all the planes, objects, and cockpits _look_ like textured geometry. It's especially noticeable in VR.
Indeed. Current shading looks outdated. But I'm afraid they are too poor to do anything about it now.
@@zelfit lets just hope they will surprise us some day!😊
This looks gorgeous. 👍🏼
G-6 of JG 52. Nice
What a beautiful aircraft.
Hey GS, with VR is there any way to increase the scale so you don't have to swivel 180 to view behind you? (sorta like a head track curve) My poor old neck ain't as flexible as it used to be...
Hi man, you can do what I do and cheat using a swivel chair, I want to look around I turn my chair 180
@@GrowlingSidewinder Yeah, I've been doing that with my chair for a while but since it looks like you were double jointed with the 6 checks, I was hoping there was a secret sauce recipe in there. Thanks for getting back. ; )
The canopy view of the G6 seems to be very much limited. Reminds me of the F-14 Tomcat lol
Yea without vr/trackir sometimes a real pain in the @ss😂
Would you mind adding your graphics settings for the rift s in game?
Oh, and can we please bring back (Lester?) or whoever it was that you said was Jester's WWI grand-dad.
R2D2 wasnt having a good time in that P-51
Yes! WWII content.
Can you do D-9 or D13 high altitude maybe vs bombers or if possible a ta-152 high altitude vs bombers if it's even in IL 2... Please thanks
Would there be much difference if against f20
GS, do you ever fly IL2 1946 anymore? I'd love to see you do 1v1 comparos in that sim. I miss it.
More 190 and P-38 please!
Yes would love to see a dora Video again. P38 is also a good choice :)
Any reason why you dont do more vr in dcs?
There was a reason Erich Hartmann flew nothing but 109s.
When using VR. What do you do with aircraft controls? Can you peek out of the headset or do you know where your where to press by musclememory?
Greetings from Denmark
Hello all needed controls are connected to the HOTAS stick and throttle
@@GrowlingSidewinder off course you are "only" dogfighting. Not messing with bombdelays, lights, mixture and all that.
Your vids is a great learningtool to dogfighting, thx alot 👍🏼
Can we get some bandit unknown WW2 edition?
Is this game still going strong? BIg playerbase?
I love prop fights in VR!
Is it true what it says on the IL2 stream page that VR must be flown with kB/m and you can't use a HOTAS in VR?
If so, does Rise of Flight have the same limitations?
This is not the case. It is totally possible to fly IL2 in VR with HOTAS.
@@surtur7363 that's kind of a relief, I thought it was absurd but why would steam say that? Nearly scared me off the game for a minute there.
@@VenomVsTRex yea never trust something on steam😅
Yes, great graphics :)
Is it just me or is it now nearly impossible to fly the P-51 with the Logitech 3D Extrem without helps???
How do you manage to check your six that straight within VR? I can't move my head like this...
swivel chair man lol
@@GrowlingSidewinder LOL! I thought I was getting to old for a fighter pilot because of that... :-) I built myself a sim pit - so no swivel chair here. One could consider that as cheating... ;-)
ahah ya its 100% cheating
@@GrowlingSidewinder just kidding! I really enjoy your videos! Keep up with the great stuff! You are a beast up there and you would have been a top ace in ww2. Thank god we don’t need to fight in real life!
Nice vid!
The ww2 fighter`s are very cool. Now a ww1 bi plane with that open cockpit would be wild. Recreating a open cockpit to be realistic would be difficult I imagine. Kevin from sunny Mexico.
They have plenty of ww1 planes in il2
il2 sturmovik vs DCS warbird cual es mas realista ?
Yesssss!!!!
You should try an F8F against a German opponent.
hey anyone know if an 1060 3gb w a i7 would be able to run vr on at least mid settings?
Macchi Macchi Macchi!
3:39 lmao
Can you do night fights in DCS?
Also it seems like you prefer track IR with DCS and VR in IL2.
If that’s the case, why is that?
Content creation is much better with Trackir in DCS I find VR to be a little too jittery for a video
@@GrowlingSidewinder makes sense, thanks for the response and the always awesome content!
@@GrowlingSidewinder Hello GS, your daily production is like a good beer at the end of the day. I know savour one every day, on some we get twice ! Which WWII flight models do you prefer between IL-2 and DCS? You seem to prefer IL-2 for the WWII period; is it because there is a greater variety of planes, situations and landscapes?
@@esr243 It runs smooth as butter as well.
Hurricane v ME 262?
Mour IL-2 Sturkmovik
Is it just me or is anyone else always disappointed when the shot cuts before the plane hits the ground on the kill cams?
show no mercy..
Can you do gripen vs f35? So Canada will know who to pick ;)
Edit
Gripen is the correct answer yes I am swedish 🇸🇪
Ending song name please
Unkown. Most likely a licensed song that was made fo GS only
i see 109, i like
My dumbass thought this was War Thunder for a second
