QD: A running shoe store would be amazing! Since most of us don’t live near you I would suggest being able to figure out a way to do virtual appointments to help people find the right shoe for them. Gait analysis on a video chat would be fun!

QD: Definitely, lol! My ideal running shoe store would be an appointment only type store where you really get one on one service, something like Apple's Genius Bar but for shoes. The best shoe store experience I have ever had was actually at the La Sportiva factory store in Boulder (I was there over this past summer to be fitted for mountaineering boots). The one on one customer service was amazing and they really took time to make sure I had the exact best fit and boot for what I wanted. Unfortunately only their high end boots and the Lycan II trail runner come in my size (US 14 or EU 49) or I would have many more of there shoes.

QD: I think it would be super helpful to have a website of some sort, maybe not even a store, but your website, where someone is able to go through a series of questions (neutral/stability),(drop),(tongue), (weight range,(price) and at the end have a couple of options kicked out to you for what you would like. Then, on each of the shoes, you could have a page that gives the scores that you've already given us in the review, some extra specs, and maybe a link to the video that you've done on that shoe.

QOD: brick and mortar retail is having a real hard time competing with Amazon ect.
Working in retail especially manager or owner = long hours, working holidays, high employee turnover, weekends ect. I’m voting no. Not that you couldn’t do it but you would have to prepare to work some very long days.

  • @maxscriptguru

Seth, the reason running shoe stores are overwhelming is because displays have no information about the shoes. They don't display anything about the shoes. Not even a lousy price tag. Everything is just thrown on the wall as if they were selling something in 1899. Bring running shoes sales into the 21st century!
So if you walk into a running shoe store you should have:
A section for racing shoes, a section for long slow running shoes, a section for tempo shoes, a section for zero drop shoes, a section for daily trainers. In each section each shoe is sorted and labeled by weight. Each running shoe would have that information on a placard with other relevant statistics that would help someone buy a shoe. Currently no running shoes stores do this, and not even the online stores either.
There are running shoe stores here that when I go into them, are the absolute social centers of the running community. They are busy, full and always relevant to people. And they don't just sell shoes.
    You should absolutely do it.

For me, I think a running store only works if a) its huge and online (RW) or b) it is also big but has a community (organizes runs, training runs for major local races...) and the staff are all enthusiastic runners with a range of abilities (and hopefully shoe geeks too). I loved Jackrabbit in NYC. Meet up prior to a long run in the store, have a brand sponsor the event etc..., and then organized hydration stops and snacks at the end. Amazing.

QD: Option to view shoes organized by run type: Marathon, long-run, tempo, easy day, etc. I’ve been searching for my next long-run shoe and it’s more difficult than I expected to search for comparable shoes that way. I’d find it helpful if RUclips playlists included each of the shoe categories too. You often say “this is how I will use this shoe” or “here are some other shoes you could consider”, but you already have to be watching the shoe’s vlog to hear that. Just a thought

Am i the only person that doesn't really understand what a Daily Trainer is? I think of my runs as either easy, tempo, interval, or long. And i fit my shoes to that with tempo/interval being light and responsive, long being cushioned and maybe light. and Easy is either cushioned or my old long run shoes. Not really sure where a Daily trainer fits in this lexicon

QD. I think you could offer so much more than most stores: REAL EXPERIENCE. Really (I mean really) understanding the runner and their real needs. I only go to brick and mortar running shoe stores anymore if I need true expertise.
Also, yesterday’s QD. I started watching your channel this year in March. I did not care about running shoe blogs but started watching your channel for training and life blogs. But now I love the running shoe blogs. I have learned so much about shoes and I am so appreciative. I think the mix in blog types is so important. Sometimes you don’t know you don’t know you need/want something until you start to learn about it.

    QD:
As a beginner runner, I would probably be overwhelmed if I were barraged with such information about how to pick shoes.
I assume, for a beginner, would be easier to give basic important information and get recommendation on 'what to buy' or 'pick one for me please' instead of 'what you can choose from'.
Information such as foot dimension (sizing), pronation (stability y/n), running experience, existing pain/discomfort so far should be enough for having a starting shoe.
If I'm thinking of going to brick and mortar, that is practically a way to get direct feedback from the knowledgeable staff and have them analyze it for me and decide for me rather than giving me too much suggestion and have me decide something.
Later down the road with more experience, said beginner should be able to provide more information and do better with much feedback in deciding which shoes to buy.
