I honestly think the Sawed off should be converted to a more offensive weapon, by lowering its spread and increasing its range and movement speed and maybe even fire rate (I wouldnt even mind if they turned down the damage a bit to add these changes!) It should be used to break defensive lines imo, but sadly, Its pretty bad (The only use I found for it was on hostage maps!)
I guess being a situational weapon class is kinda sad, huh? I mean, IRL, sawed-offs are sawed off to be lighter, faster and have a wider spread. In CS:GO, that doesn't seem to really be the case because of weapon balance. You forgot to mention that the sawed off has high damage and you can fire after each she'll is put in. It's actually really good if you know how to use it. Pick you fights, have a good secondary for when moving between close quarters areas, and if your like me, and have the kraken skin, yell "RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!" Every time you get a kill. In fact I ace clutched earlier with the sawed off (ok not ace it was 3 kills) but they had the advantage. They had bomb down, and we're on A site. I had my sawed off, went up through CT, and took one out who was watching cat from boxes. Then I went to ramp and got one behind the box there, the last one was starting to move from goose to the center of A site to take cover. I shot once, and then shot again and he was down. My team wins the round. It can be used effectively in that close quarters situation or push situations. I usually use it in tunnels on Dust 2 (because that's all anyone play anymore) and I have even rushed B through smoke.
I actually like the sawed off a bit. It's range sucks, but it's a shotgun... so that's okay. Point blank, instakill anyone, anywhere, anytime. Good for flanking awkward (and risky) positions to surprise people.
Isn’t it the opposite or maybe only use the mag 7 because nova is terrible? He says the mag 7 requires lots of skill but the nova is as strange to learn as learning the recoil pattern of the m249

MAG-7 has more armor penetration meaning if the enemy is buying you are better off with it, (Nove is also more accurate and thus a bit more versitile but you REALLY have to be pin point with it at longer ranges, so just stick to close range with mag for a safer kill)

You forgot to note that shotguns can be effective through-smoke sprays as they have a large amount of spare ammo to waste, on top of that you don't have to aim directly at your opponent to hit them especially with the offensive capability of the Sawn off. It's designed to still get a hit in even if you don't get a direct around-the-corner impact.
Since the nerf on the Sawed-Off I think this video makes a valid point more than it normally would but one MAJOR thing you failed to mention is that there are plenty of hostage situations where the Terrorist would find the Sawed-Off to their benefit even more so than rifles. Plenty of times in multiple hostage maps such as Bank, Motel, or Agency but also maps like Office I found that at shorter skirmish ranges or sitting behind the hostage you have a clear cut advantage even against precise highly accurate players especially because the wider spread allows for total coverage of a door frame or narrow passage like a hallway. Even while flashed or with a team rushing a specific spot the Sawed-Off allows total coverage and the ability to tag multiple targets. Another obvious use of the Sawed-Off is lurking players waiting for the switch even on Dust 2 and other presumed mid-range maps. Another short lived map this was terrific on was Mist. Not only does it nearly guarantee you a kill but the money you save allows you to buy a nicer long range armor piercing pistol for emergency situations, or the obvious choice of killing a player and taking their rifle/smg/sniper. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a quad or ace watching office side hostage on Agency or killed a guy switching over through mid or tunnels on Dust 2 or behind any of the doors or hallways in Mist.

I've found the sawed off was pretty effective at killing up close. It seems to hit harder than the nova, it almost felt like it had a tighter spread because of the fact it was a whammy every shot at a bit of distance.

I have 200 hours (I know its not much) and its kinda funny that before watching this video I never once noticed it shows you the penetration power, the secondary fire option and country of origin for the weapons when your picking :P
Rainydayarmadillo It has always shown those stats. The recent update only modified it to now show the damage and stats of the weapon using visual bars.

Hey man, great videos. I fell in love with CSS back in college, played a lot (casual) for about 4-5 years then stopped. Now CS GO re-invigorated my interest. I watched all of your tutorials and theyre great, i never really understood the economic nuances and the overall depth of the economy. Having this guy explain the works of a shotgun at the start was like dying a slow death, multiple bullets?!? Really? And that was not the only "not entirely wrong, but one hell of a distance from correct" statement this man delivered to us, it was the epitome of pure incompetence, but i will still give him credit for actually making a video that one can manage to sit through entirely.
What I meant was the clarification that a shotgun fires a shell stacked with gunpowder and compression-wad that, when fired, the combustion send multiple pellets (if one fires buckshot or birdshot rounds) towards the aquired target. The way he explains it leads to believe that a shotgun fires multiple rounds at once like early pepperbox pistols, which is not the case, imagine a 9mm gun that fires 6 shots from 6 independent barrels simultaneously which is what his description of shotgun ammo resembles.
TheSatanicon While I get you're speaking literally... In the sense of game design and mechanics, the shotguns in game do fire "multiple bullets"... They aren't going to simulate pellets from a shell, they are going to simplify it and just cast multiple rounds from a point the same as they would other guns.
Im new to GO, and im definitely still learning, playing on casual is really hard for me, its funny cause im normally pretty good when i start a new game but cs:go has been a challenge. That being said i actually aced a team with the sawed off yesterday. Granted they were all in a straight line on some stairs and i peaked them while they were shooting at the bomb carrier, i was shocked it wasnt a more used weapon. Did i just get really lucky or can this happen if it is used in the right situation anytime.
IMO Casual is the hardest game mode. It's AWP mania and has the most toxic players. It's not like you can call for the team either, because the enemy can also hear you.
My reccomendation for Valve on shotguns: Spread changed to a consistient acute downward V shape for competetive, as that is the best form for counterstrike's player models. Nova: 6 rounds per mag, *ignores head armour*, +15% accuracy, tagging values increased greatly. XM101: 85% armour penetration, even higher penetration on head armour, +15% accuracy Mag-7: ... It's fine, really Sawedoff: +20% fire rate, -25% reload rate, +10% accuracy, terrible movement accuracy If you haven't noticed, the common theme is to raise the skill cap on shotguns, encouraging practice and gamesense over luck, as well as allowing them to avoid armour pistol counters; assuming they have the finess to do so. I feel this would improve the game and the strategy while diversifying the useable arsenal. Also a beastly yet highly expensive shotgun could be a great new addition to freshen things up.

i fucken hate sawed off, it seems like its always useless for anything else than super super close range. i like nova more, smaller spread too so its easier to 1 hit people in the head.
People always say have an escape route and things like that but in the video he wasn't getting shot at people forget that if the enemy lands 1 hit on you your character basically stops dead in his tracks.
I find the Nova can work at relatively long ranges. Crouching when you shoot, going for headshots and staying mobile can kill a player in suicide when you are at doors on Dust 2 in about around 4 shots.
@@schizosinkhole sometimes i click right in the middle of their hitbox with a shotgun at close range and then get killed and the game tells me i didn't even hit them with 1 damage.... other times i make unexplainable rampages with shotguns and kill people even at mid range with just 1 hit

The sawn off is so much fun. High damage, high ROF and normal shotgun reloading and the fact that you can actually hit stuff with it On the other hand the MAG-7 is more powerful, but really hard to use
The Sawed-off is useful in hostage maps, but not defusal maps, for the same reason the mag7 is viable on CT side in defuse maps. It's super easy to use on Office and Italy, specifically Italy though.
#shotgunsobad I've never used a source engine game that has a decently built shotgun. Though CS:GO ones seem to be actually viable, though CS:S/TTT shotguns do 2-2000 damage at all ranges, when they feel like it.
...Except for every source engine game, ever. CS:GO addresses that issue, but its accuracy as a game is really pitiful when put on comparison with other engines.
Jimmy De'Souza I know exactly what I said. All source engine games have randomness issues in regards to damage, damage falloff, and accuracy when it comes to the shotguns. CS:GO does address this by having the damage falloff be either 100% or 0% damage (none of that scaled range damage that you see in other games) but the accuracy is still VERY questionable, even at point blank. Source is the only engine where you can shove a shotgun in someone's nose and still have a fairly decent chance to miss.
Tide I just mean built as in comparison to other games with shotguns. Most other games, if you put a shotgun in someone's gut they die. But Source is the only engine where you can snipe with a shotgun, and register less damage than a pistol at point blank with the exact same shotgun.
Rev0lutionary . Well Source just works differently. Pellets will travel until gravity pulls them down or until they hit a surface. I don't see how it registers less damage at point blank considering most of them one-shot at that range.
Sawed off is useful to Sprint at people, as it doesn't change accuracy much. Also fires faster than nova, so best to closed quarters. No dust long street/hall. More corner ambush
i have the autoshotty irl as an airsoft gun. i believe i got it from a company called m3, and whatever you do, don't get the adjustable stock because it will unscrew itself, wiggle around, and cause the pistol grip to disintegrate, just in case anyone was wondering :)

Plenty of times in multiple hostage maps such as Bank, Motel, or Agency but also maps like Office I found that at shorter skirmish ranges or sitting behind the hostage you have a clear cut advantage even against precise highly accurate players especially because the wider spread allows for total coverage of a door frame or narrow passage like a hallway. Even while flashed or with a team rushing a specific spot the Sawed-Off allows total coverage and the ability to tag multiple targets.
Another obvious use of the Sawed-Off is lurking players waiting for the switch even on Dust 2 and other presumed mid-range maps. Another short lived map this was terrific on was Mist. Not only does it nearly guarantee you a kill but the money you save allows you to buy a nicer long range armor piercing pistol for emergency situations, or the obvious choice of killing a player and taking their rifle/smg/sniper. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a quad or ace watching office side hostage on Agency or killed a guy switching over through mid or tunnels on Dust 2 or behind any of the doors or hallways in Mist.

I've found the sawed off was pretty effective at killing up close. It seems to hit harder than the nova, it almost felt like it had a tighter spread because of the fact it was a whammy every shot at a bit of distance.

It was recently updated to show those stats.

Hey man, great videos. I fell in love with CSS back in college, played a lot (casual) for about 4-5 years then stopped. Now CS GO re-invigorated my interest. I watched all of your tutorials and theyre great, i never really understood the economic nuances and the overall depth of the economy. Having this guy explain the works of a shotgun at the start was like dying a slow death, multiple bullets?!? Really? And that was not the only "not entirely wrong, but one hell of a distance from correct" statement this man delivered to us, it was the epitome of pure incompetence, but i will still give him credit for actually making a video that one can manage to sit through entirely.
What I meant was the clarification that a shotgun fires a shell stacked with gunpowder and compression-wad that, when fired, the combustion send multiple pellets (if one fires buckshot or birdshot rounds) towards the aquired target. The way he explains it leads to believe that a shotgun fires multiple rounds at once like early pepperbox pistols, which is not the case, imagine a 9mm gun that fires 6 shots from 6 independent barrels simultaneously which is what his description of shotgun ammo resembles.
TheSatanicon While I get you're speaking literally... In the sense of game design and mechanics, the shotguns in game do fire "multiple bullets"... They aren't going to simulate pellets from a shell, they are going to simplify it and just cast multiple rounds from a point the same as they would other guns.

Im new to GO, and im definitely still learning, playing on casual is really hard for me, its funny cause im normally pretty good when i start a new game but cs:go has been a challenge. That being said i actually aced a team with the sawed off yesterday. Granted they were all in a straight line on some stairs and i peaked them while they were shooting at the bomb carrier, i was shocked it wasnt a more used weapon. Did i just get really lucky or can this happen if it is used in the right situation anytime.
Sawed off is really good in close combat situations from my experience. People always diss it for some reason though.

IMO Casual is the hardest game mode. It's AWP mania and has the most toxic players. It's not like you can call for the team either, because the enemy can also hear you.

My reccomendation for Valve on shotguns:
Spread changed to a consistient acute downward V shape for competetive, as that is the best form for counterstrike's player models.
Nova: 6 rounds per mag, *ignores head armour*, +15% accuracy, tagging values increased greatly.
XM101: 85% armour penetration, even higher penetration on head armour, +15% accuracy
Mag-7: ... It's fine, really
Sawedoff: +20% fire rate, -25% reload rate, +10% accuracy, terrible movement accuracy
If you haven't noticed, the common theme is to raise the skill cap on shotguns, encouraging practice and gamesense over luck, as well as allowing them to avoid armour pistol counters; assuming they have the finess to do so. I feel this would improve the game and the strategy while diversifying the useable arsenal.
Also a beastly yet highly expensive shotgun could be a great new addition to freshen things up.

I some times snipe people with the sawed off on 40 meters, and sometimes a dead crosshair at 10 m and no hits at all lol
People always say have an escape route and things like that but in the video he wasn't getting shot at people forget that if the enemy lands 1 hit on you your character basically stops dead in his tracks.

I find the Nova can work at relatively long ranges. Crouching when you shoot, going for headshots and staying mobile can kill a player in suicide when you are at doors on Dust 2 in about around 4 shots.
Actually the sawed-off shotgun is pretty good if you play hostage maps and at the same time the mag-7 sucks, don't use it! ;)

The Sawed-off is useful in hostage maps, but not defusal maps, for the same reason the mag7 is viable on CT side in defuse maps. It's super easy to use on Office and Italy, specifically Italy though.
#shotgunsobad I've never used a source engine game that has a decently built shotgun. Though CS:GO ones seem to be actually viable, though CS:S/TTT shotguns do 2-2000 damage at all ranges, when they feel like it.
...Except for every source engine game, ever. CS:GO addresses that issue, but its accuracy as a game is really pitiful when put on comparison with other engines.

I know exactly what I said. All source engine games have randomness issues in regards to damage, damage falloff, and accuracy when it comes to the shotguns. CS:GO does address this by having the damage falloff be either 100% or 0% damage (none of that scaled range damage that you see in other games) but the accuracy is still VERY questionable, even at point blank. Source is the only engine where you can shove a shotgun in someone's nose and still have a fairly decent chance to miss.
Do you mean decently built, or realistically built? Valve doesn't go for realism. You should know that one by now.

I just mean built as in comparison to other games with shotguns. Most other games, if you put a shotgun in someone's gut they die. But Source is the only engine where you can snipe with a shotgun, and register less damage than a pistol at point blank with the exact same shotgun.
Rev0lutionary . Well Source just works differently. Pellets will travel until gravity pulls them down or until they hit a surface. I don't see how it registers less damage at point blank considering most of them one-shot at that range.
Sawed off is useful to Sprint at people, as it doesn't change accuracy much. Also fires faster than nova, so best to closed quarters. No dust long street/hall. More corner ambush

i have the autoshotty irl as an airsoft gun. i believe i got it from a company called m3, and whatever you do, don't get the adjustable stock because it will unscrew itself, wiggle around, and cause the pistol grip to disintegrate, just in case anyone was wondering :)
