- Filipinos pay more for internet connectivity than most of their Asian neighbors, yet web pages load at an agonizingly idle speed. Worse, there is no connection to the world wide web at all.
Vice News finds out how Filipinos survive or if they can cope at all, as the pandemic changes the way humanity thrives and connects.

There's a factors that affects the internet in the Philippines. not blaming the telcos alone... The first is the geography, we know that philippines consist of 7000+ islands making it difficult to construct fixed networks. The other one is the lacking of towers because of the bureaucratic red taping where numerous permits that requires so many signatures to build a single tower in different location and the approval runs for months..So less cell tower catering a large number of user leads to slower connection.
As an Indonesian who doesn't live in Java Island, I can totally relate to this.
Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about. Don't get me wrong, corporates are still greedy pieces of shites but that doesn't diminish the fact that they can only work with so much because of much more greedy corrupt government bodies. It's a never-ending cycle
You dont need cell towers, if you have a cell satelite, big companies can pay famous people to endorse them but they cant buy a cell satelite
@@Levyiathan-yq2og yes it's still a plan for now

WHAT?! (hala sanaol lage, it takes minutes or god forbid, hours just to download one single app here in the Philippines ;-;)
I had a friend who went to Korea just to try their computer shops there. He was so amazed how fast SK's internet, he even vlogged it 😂 playing lol was so fast there
Come bangladesh, poor but have fast internet
@@Rafan-sq7yf Whats the point if the internet is fast when the environment around you is dirty af, I won't even be comfortable playing
Singapore has internet faster than a cheetah
I’m now impressed the Filipina guest speakers we had in our Zoom class were able to have calls at all.
This video made me appreciate my life even more !
I could see how desperate Smart and Globe were when they started hiring K-pop stars like BTS and BP to endorse them... like if you want more people to support you, give them quality service. It's literally that easy. These stupid ass companies need to stop riding the K-pop clout.
Well said.
Kpoop indeed
And now it’s PLDT the internet is so bad that I get late for meetings🙄
They just wanna suck more money. Slow internet? Spend more!! Still slow?? Buy our wifi!!!...And the cycle continues.
Kahit nga naka fiber na di parin kinakaya yung tng ina 720 na facetime ng di nagloload pota na yan
This is why I hate online learning. I always have trouble with my internet connection during online classes especially during exam
I fucking skipped this year because of that reason, now I regret doing so because I’m already behind...

Might as well retitle the video as “living in rural America” since the greatest “superpower” has the largest population of below average internet speeds available to people who don’t live in populated cities
We experienced our first time having a wifi connection in our house last year, about two months before my 25th birthday. Before that, we had to travel about 30 minutes into the city just so we can text or browse Facebook. Lol
"i promised myself, my children wouldnt be undereducated like me no matter how much i sacrifice. We are already left behind, without internet we will fall even further"
have no children?
Dude, the internet is so bad that im watching this video in 144p, and its constantly buffering.
Pls help.
Ito ohh apiran kita🖑🖑🖑
Hahaha 360 aken par smart simcard ko
mine isn’t that bad tho??
I went to the Philippines in like 2016 and my cousin had a 72mbs router and it was ok no buffering but the problem is it randomly drops connection
Then how do you play dota?
This is a bit like rural America too. I don’t have cell service; I’m stuck with one ISP with speeds that are below 10mbps. Landlines are required here and many kids either sit in parking lots to do school or get big paper packets to take home. I’m often without service for days at a time because something is always breaking.
This is what you call a “Digital Divide”
Oh imagine the joy and satisfaction that I have when youtube can load a 720p quality without buffering let alone above that
Heck, even at 240p, which I usually select, the videos still buffer. My goodness. And I even live in the city.
@@kyen685 damn that's depressing.
@@kyen685 okay wtf lmaoo💀. And I rant when 2160p starts buffering😩
Bruh moment your lucky
Godbless my country. Being philipines neighbour Indonesia has huge improvement on internet speed.

yeah internet speed in philippines is terribly slow. i used to call my dad in australia and he always complains why my video quality always grainy and blur, i always tell him my internet connection is bad no matter what sim network & mobile data package i use. While the rest of the world is moving forward with 5G internet speed, Philippines is still stuck with 3G (LTE & 4G in Ph not yet good enough and just on par with real 3G speed) I visited Thailand before and I'm overwhelmed how fast the internet speed there 80mbps download & upload speed for 4G and that's just a basic package.
That waiting song while contacting the internet provider still haunts me
I once had a vacation in the Philippines back in 2017 and I almost cried of how slow their internet connection, and It made me wonder because most of the Filipinos are using the internet/data connection all the time especially they have majority of the BPO companies 😞
I can answer your question. There are 2 types of internet connections here given by isp. One is a residential internet and one is business internet. Isp majority offers residential internet because the latter is rarely offer to and at the same time, you need tons of documents to be approve to get a business internet and it is expensive.
Call centers and BPOs used fiber internet and they have their own tower at the rooftop of the company. Those who work at home have fiber wired connection as well so best internet so far. I know it because I work in the bpo
Bruh I saw the title and was like "This is just like the Philippines" and you know what, IT IS!
