I agree the original D&D & Traveller RPG games are the foundation of our hobby, if you want a game system that provides endless play, you cannot go wrong just with them.
Thanks for this video. This is the first RPG I got - at the original Games Workshop in Hammersmith, London in 1979. After spending the weekend rolling up characters, I had no idea how to play it, so I went to some older kids at school who played D&D and they let me play in the module they just bought - the Tomb of Horrors! I died pretty quickly, but it was enough to work out how to play Traveller. Still my favourite RPG after all these years (although I play Megatraveller rules if I play today).
I still have and use my original deluxe set of Traveller. The deluxe set includes a map of the Spinward Marches with a booklet with the UPP of all the planets.
I heard this edition you have was before the imperium existed for the game, so it’s world creation is more sandbox like with a wholly original sector map and doesn’t try to create a traveller sector map
What I mean by the sector map is after that initial edition I believe the sector rules try to create xboat routes and other “geography” uniquely Imperium traveller
It’s great that you have this. Not many people have the 1977 edition, as most of us started with the version that was released in 1981. I accidentally purchased a 1977 set a couple of years ago, thinking it was the 1981 edition, and was delighted when I realised my error. It’s a true piece of Traveller history. It’s good that you have the box, as the back is different to the box from the 1981 set.
I would love to get a copy of the Japanese print of the Traveller RPG for the art. What little I have seen of the art looks like a an 80s era manga artist drawing characters from Alien/Aliens or the movie Outland (High Noon in space with Sean Connery).
Still the best edition of Traveller. No Imperium assumptions, no skill bloat, it really is a complete RPG that can be used to create or emulate pretty well any sci fi setting you want from John Carter of Mars to Star Wars to Star Trek to Dune to Earl Dumarest to the Solar Queen.

100% agree.... The foundation of all RPGs
That is a 1977 edition. You did very well... That is gold...
Great stuff. $25 is a steal.

Thanks for giving us all a chance to see this with you, cheers.
Cool score, I like seeing the difference in the 77 version to 81.

Very cool. I had that in early 80s but neighborhood friends and I played much more AD&D.
You got an amazing deal, i just paid 75 plus shipping for a 2nd ed box set.
Nice. Just the way it looks makes me happy.

The rules are different as well.
Excellent, cheap, Australian ebay would be substantially more!
