I find that a lot of people who do get vocally upset about Funhaus stories tend to not understand the difference between fact and opinion, and when voicing their disdain for something, argue their point as if it's based in fact, even though they almost always preface that point with 'I think'. Also, when they say 'the internet' before making a generalised statement about what the vocal minority is talking about, I understand they aren't talking about me, and so I don't get offended. I'm a 23 yo grad student and your videos are a nice alternative to the nonsense on basic cable after a long day at work. We watch your content, thoroughly enjoy it, then go about our daily lives after the videos are over. Just know that despite the negativity that you hear from a small portion of you audience, most of us are very satisfied with your work (and will continue to refrain from commenting). People made Ride to Hell, Aliens Colonial Marines and Duke Nukem Forever. Also, Arkham Knight DID NOT WORK on PC for most people no matter how many times Lawrence mocks those people who complained because they couldn't play a game they bought. Also no it was WB that removed it of steam, not the players.
They're also making shenmue 3 and a final fantasy vii remake after years of people saying it wasn't going to happen and that people that kept asking were stupid to do so. Not that I don't believe that they didn't do their research, but stranger things have happened.
Neocorny When BF3/4 first came out all broken first week or not its their job to make sure it works, yes room for error but in the state that it was in. Having studied journalism in college, it is very safe to assume [and trust] that these guys did their job when it comes to checking and verifying sources. Doing all of that is a long(ish) and grueling process. FH, I have to say, you have really earned my respect since joining RT. I didn't watch you guys during your IG days, but the quality of your content with the FH channel has been fantastic. The way you handle gaming news is the way it should be done: present a story, explain why it makes sense using logical thought, and make reasonable predictions based on that information. And somehow you are able to stay funny and entertaining at the same time. As an audience member, I applaud you. You are doing it right, FH.
Hey often lurker here. I just wanted to say that these stories where you "break the news" are some of my favorites you do. You do a very good job of sticking to what you know and not going off assumptions (In my opinion anyway). Over my years of watching you, I have learned you are hard workers and dedicated to what you do so I look at what you say as truth or at least very close to it. That being said, even if this comes out as "officially not true", I still appreciate you giving me the opportunity to think of what the game could be and giving me something to think about with this new prospective. News in any industry is meant to spread awareness of what is happening, not reiterate what companies would like to tell us.

It doesn't make business sense for Valve to sit on a high-value IP like Half-life unless they're waiting for the right time to drop it. They have the luxury to sit on it as long as they like. It makes sense if it is launched when there's nothing else to compete/compare with it. My baseless speculation puts it as waiting for either the Rift for a VR gimmick or as an 'exclusive' for a Steam console launch. Or never. I'm beyond caring in the meantime. It's the best 'not happening' to casually mock now that Duke Nukem Forever became a 'pretend never happened'.

I can't believe that there are people out there still waiting for Half-Life 3 to be released. It's a game that doesn't deserves all this hype. I mean, what are HL fans waiting for? The cliffhanger conclusion from Episode 2? The graphic visuals? VR? I mean, what? Just let it die, before the Half-Life 3 cancer kills out anticipating gamers.

I love the conversation about their condescension between James and Bruce about half an hour into this video. And Adam, "That's just my voice!" I understand where you guys are coming from (especially knowing that you are a little older than most of your viewers), and it's ridiculous how easily upset people get just because you're saying something they don't want to hear. There are some of us that appreciate you guys actually making an attempt at game journalism and reporting actual game news. Content is always on point.
The animosity people hold about things like this is staggering. Personally, I think there are far more important things to worry about. Particularly things you can actually have an effect on. Even typing with the fury and wrath of you and those two other guys you met online behind you, your comment is less likely to be respectfully acknowledged if you are just an ass. And thats if they even give a shit about what a few people on the other side of the internet have to say to begin with.
On the point of of condescending, you are ALLOWED to be because as you said, you guys have been around for MUCH longer and had much more experience around this sort of thing than some jerk off that is getting mad at you online. One thing I really respect and admire about Funhaus is how they don't tear down games or developers. (TotalBiscuit comes to mind). Under the guise of "consumer advocacy" people take it upon themselves to destroy games and their developers as if all game developers and executives got up in the morning with the plan to totally screw over their potential customers. It's a sad, tainted view of the world. When products come out in other consumer industries the development teams don't have to take that kind of abuse. I don't think consumer advocacy, and game reviews in particular, need to constantly cross the line into entitled and bitter reviewers shaming developers into submission. (60 FPS or GTFO comes to mind)

Valve News Network doesn't cover just positive stuff about valve, and he doesn't definitely think Hl3 is coming out. Do some research on the channel first before you insult it, lost a lot of respect for Adam there.
The Mass Effect problem seems to be more like "here's a world where we give you choices that carry over through 3 games" and then it turned into a "pick your color" ending. Half Life is more about a single linear story. Even if Half Life 3 is only just as good as the previous games, I think it'll be well received.

Firstly, I'm happy for you guys to do investigative journalism. If I want to see game announcements, game feature announcements, or announcements of future game announcements, there are a million other places I can go to for that. Your reports on The Know are one of the very few places I can go to actually hear stuff that is happening behind the scenes in the gaming industry. I trust you do your research, but it doesn't matter to me if you get it wrong; if you were wrong, you were wrong and if you were right, you were right. What matters is that you're putting the effort into bringing us something we rarely get to see. Secondly, Lawrence, I do cross-stitch as I watch the Funhaus podcasts. ;) I can't enjoy podcasts by themselves and cross-stitch isn't as enjoyable for me without some other mental stimulation in the background, so I've combined the two and find it very productive and satisfying. I highly recommend it for people who wish they could be more creative but are not as good at drawing as they are at following a set design plan.
In my opinion, The Know is Games Journalism. And I enjoy it. I'd enjoy being a games journalist but only in the way you people do. I took a news journalism class in my first year of college and let me tell you this, most news isn't journalism but you guys are.

I really like the "investigative journalism" pieces. It makes me think and I actually gain insights about a hobby of mine. I also can recognize and appreciate that the Funhaus team put a lot of work into the story and making sure it was consumable, which it was. That hard work resulted in my personal favorite Know episode. And I loved the point about learning how the games industry works. Im currently interning with a huge (Fortune 50) company's IT dept and it is amazing to see the issues they deal with and how decisions are made. Overall, great stuff guys! Keep on keeping on.

I'm a 23 yo grad student and your videos are a nice alternative to the nonsense on basic cable after a long day at work. I never post comments to RUclips, but just know that I am a part of the non-vocal majority of your viewers. We watch your content, thoroughly enjoy it, then go about our daily lives after the videos are over. Just know that despite the negativity that you hear from a small portion of you audience, most of us are very satisfied with your work (and will continue to refrain from commenting). Neocorny When BF3/4 first came out all broken first week or not its their job to make sure it works, yes room for error but in the state that it was in. Batman was fucked for most ppl so again thats a case of the angry online ppls being justified. Same with Aliens and same with Duke. Not like the ppl who bitched hard about those games are entitled, its simple they were sold a broken or unfinished product. The shit with Mass Effect is wrong never played but rules are 1)research a game before you buy and 2) just as with movies you may not always like the ending......deal with it.
***** Technically it was the players who ¨removed¨ the game. if the refunds didn't exist in steam then WB wouldn't give a shit about the state of BAK. Just like Dark Souls and other shit pcports. But in this case WB lose a ton of cash because of the refunds. Steam keeps the 30 % but the rest goes back to the consumer. Basically for every refund, WB was losing cash.
Having studied journalism in college, it is very safe to assume [and trust] that these guys did their job when it comes to checking and verifying sources. Doing all of that is a long(ish) and grueling process.
I know that Funhaus has a rep to not take many things serious, but when it comes to stories like this and having their jobs "on the line" you best believe they will get it right when it comes to having real valuable information and sources! I just wanted to say that these stories where you "break the news" are some of my favorites you do. You do a very good job of sticking to what you know and not going off assumptions (In my opinion anyway). Over my years of watching you, I have learned you are hard workers and dedicated to what you do so I look at what you say as truth or at least very close to it. That being said, even if this comes out as "officially not true", I still appreciate you giving me the opportunity to think of what the game could be and giving me something to think about with this new prospective. Like you, I hope that it is truly a vocal minority and also that you keep doing these types of stories. Keep working hard and don't let the "haters" slow you down!

It doesn't make business sense for Valve to sit on a high-value IP like Half-life unless they're waiting for the right time to drop it. They have the luxury to sit on it as long as they like. It makes sense if it is launched when there's nothing else to compete/compare with it. My baseless speculation puts it as waiting for either the Rift for a VR gimmick or as an 'exclusive' for a Steam console launch.
Or never. I'm beyond caring in the meantime. It's the best 'not happening' to casually mock now that Duke Nukem Forever became a 'pretend never happened'.

I love the conversation about their condescension between James and Bruce about half an hour into this video. And Adam, "That's just my voice!" I understand where you guys are coming from (especially knowing that you are a little older than most of your viewers), and it's ridiculous how easily upset people get just because you're saying something they don't want to hear.
There are some of us that appreciate you guys actually making an attempt at game journalism and reporting actual game news. Content is always on point.
The animosity people hold about things like this is staggering. Personally, I think there are far more important things to worry about. Particularly things you can actually have an effect on. Even typing with the fury and wrath of you and those two other guys you met online behind you, your comment is less likely to be respectfully acknowledged if you are just an ass. And thats if they even give a shit about what a few people on the other side of the internet have to say to begin with.

On the point of of condescending, you are ALLOWED to be because as you said, you guys have been around for MUCH longer and had much more experience around this sort of thing than some jerk off that is getting mad at you online.

One thing I really respect and admire about Funhaus is how they don't tear down games or developers. (TotalBiscuit comes to mind). Under the guise of "consumer advocacy" people take it upon themselves to destroy games and their developers as if all game developers and executives got up in the morning with the plan to totally screw over their potential customers. It's a sad, tainted view of the world.
When products come out in other consumer industries the development teams don't have to take that kind of abuse. I don't think consumer advocacy, and game reviews in particular, need to constantly cross the line into entitled and bitter reviewers shaming developers into submission. (60 FPS or GTFO comes to mind)
The biggest problem with the response to those videos is that a lot of people don't have a basic understanding of how a business operates on a corporate level demand isn't the only factor when it goes to producing a product.

I find the whole games industry to be surprisingly interesting and fascinating and I agree that how you do investigations is a lot closer to actual yournalism. So you have my vote. Please, please please do more investigations with interesting new stuff. I want to know about the what's and how's of game development and other aspects of the industry. (Like the recent podcast about Destiny.) I find it interesting and I find your reports, discussions and conversations interesting. Actually, the Dude Soup podcast is more interesting than The Patch in my opinion. (I still watch both though). Keep up the good work! And to people reading this and agreeing, let's be more vocal in a positive way from now on.

The Mass Effect problem seems to be more like "here's a world where we give you choices that carry over through 3 games" and then it turned into a "pick your color" ending. Half Life is more about a single linear story. Even if Half Life 3 is only just as good as the previous games, I think it'll be well received.
That wasn't investigative reporting though, you had an anonymous source who's story broke down with the slightest scrutiny and tried to spin it as fact. That's, at best, tabloid journalism.

Well of course you sound condescending. You have information and knowledge about a topic and you are trying to educate your audience on youtube....which generally consists of grade A morons that care more about being right than they do about facts.

Firstly, I'm happy for you guys to do investigative journalism. If I want to see game announcements, game feature announcements, or announcements of future game announcements, there are a million other places I can go to for that. Your reports on The Know are one of the very few places I can go to actually hear stuff that is happening behind the scenes in the gaming industry. I trust you do your research, but it doesn't matter to me if you get it wrong; if you were wrong, you were wrong and if you were right, you were right. What matters is that you're putting the effort into bringing us something we rarely get to see.
Secondly, Lawrence, I do cross-stitch as I watch the Funhaus podcasts. ;) I can't enjoy podcasts by themselves and cross-stitch isn't as enjoyable for me without some other mental stimulation in the background, so I've combined the two and find it very productive and satisfying. I highly recommend it for people who wish they could be more creative but are not as good at drawing as they are at following a set design plan.
In my opinion, The Know is Games Journalism. And I enjoy it. I'd enjoy being a games journalist but only in the way you people do. I took a news journalism class in my first year of college and let me tell you this, most news isn't journalism but you guys are.

I really like the "investigative journalism" pieces. It makes me think and I actually gain insights about a hobby of mine. I also can recognize and appreciate that the Funhaus team put a lot of work into the story and making sure it was consumable, which it was. That hard work resulted in my personal favorite Know episode.
And I loved the point about learning how the games industry works. Im currently interning with a huge (Fortune 50) company's IT dept and it is amazing to see the issues they deal with and how decisions are made.

A huge amount of the comments are left by die hard fans of half life that refused to swallow any of the news you delivered.
