  • Peter Pan Return to Neverland is the best Disney sequel, without a doubt. Unfortunately, it seems so unknown and underappreciated. I know fans of it exist, but this movie isn’t talked about in a way that would satisfy a fan such as myself. Therefore, as the great Thanos once said “FINE, I’ll do it myself.”
The live action Peter Pan and Wendy movie at least had one good thing going on with it: It reminded me of a much better Peter Pan movie XD
I love Peter Pan Return to Neverland as I think it does SO many things right.

I actually disliked Jane when i was little but now, i understand her. Jane grew up with a mother who was very imaginative as well as quite an optimist. Jane grew up mature and a realist. She didn't believe in imagination. But when she met everyone ,she learned to loosen up and just have fun. They taught her to believe and just enjoy being a child.

This might be the only Disney sequel that actually surpasses the original movie.
There are other sequels I enjoy, but they aren't superior to the originals, not like this one.
Jane's development is beautiful, and it speaks to both kids and adults.

I’m glad that you brought up that Disney and the majority of media seems to think that adulthood has to be dreary, desaturated, and depressing, my dad is 50 and still enjoys colour snd fun, I’m 21 and I still watch cartoons! I love this film for the message it sends, and it’s something that most adults need to take in nowadays

Tbh, I didn't like Peter Pan II as a kid, and I wasn't super impressed when I rewatched it a couple of years ago. But what I did absolutely love was watching Jane and Tinkerbell become friends. It was super sweet and wholesome(I'm obviously a sucker for the tinkerbell movies and friendship stuff). I also think Jane and Peter Pan were cute, too. The scene that made me cry was the ending when Janes dad came back, and the feels in that final scene.. and the animation is so beautiful and smooth too. I love how expression-filled it is!
But also, hook is just such a fun movie to watch. It's one of my favorite movies to this day because of how fun it is, and it makes me wish neverland existed.

Peter Pan 2 is one of my favorite Disney sequels. I really love Jane's character and i think she's very underrated. I love the message of not putting away your happiness or childhood. Theres so many children in the world who are suffering from war or other kinds of trauma and are basically forced to grow up or aren't able to ever live an actual childhood. And this spreads onto adulthood where so many adults are unhappy. Its sad how normalized it is for so many people to just accept being miserable and think that its normal.

This sequel also makes sense thematically because Jane is an already existing character in the original Peter Pan books, I love how Disney gave her an adventure. To me the only other child sequel's that makes sense is Simba's daughter, cause we saw her at the end of the Lion King. And Jungle Book 2, cause those stories are in a series to. One's that weren't needed, but I love anyway are Cinderella 3 and 101 Dalmations 2. Love the video, I completely agree with you❤

lmao, jokes aside, peter and jane were among my first ships when i was a child (probably because i was a lot like jane and i had a crush on peter pan 😭). i just think their dynamic is so fun and it reminds me a lot of a younger version of other animated couples (like anastasia and dimitri and tiana and naveen). i like that jane calls peter out and he actually listens to her (unlike in the original movie) and he helps her have fun and be a kid again. he also gets nervous around her sometimes, which is so out of character for peter pan it's adorable.

Peter's Character Development!!! I'm so glad someone else pointed it out. I talked about it on my Tumblr before because I'm so happy about how they went about it.
My boy went from not being able to Read the Room to being able to Read the Room. So proud of him.
I adore the movie for just about everything you said. And I'm so glad someone else finally said nice things about Return to Neverland. You're like the 2nd RUclipsr I've seen that liked RTN and understood why its good.
As cute as Jane x Peter is, I'm still 100% an OG DarlingPan shipper of Wendy x Peter. Those two are just too cute. My soul left my body in that Kingdom Hearts scene on the Clock Tower (c'mon holding hands while gazing deeply into each other's eyes- I'm a sucker for that).
    Great video.

Ah hell yeah, now THAT'S an underrated sequel I love! In my honest opinion, despite it's problems, Return to Neverland is a surprisingly good Disney sequel even by direct to video standards along with Bambi 2, The Lion King 2 and Lion King 1 1/2. For a while, it was either labeled as just an alright film or downright bad when it was in theaters.
However, it nowadays is way more respected due to its very likable cast, strong voice acting, well written story, and great music. I'm surprised that this isn't a popular pick for good animated sequels like Shrek 2, Toy Story 2 and 3, or the Kung Fu Panda or How to Train Your Dragon sequels.

I've always loved this movie more than the original(I prefer Jane as a character over Wendy and I ship Jane and Peter too) and think it's the ONLY good sequel to a Peter Pan story (such as Hook, Peter Pan in Scarlet etc). I kinda wish Jane had stayed in Neverland or returned in a third film with Danny. Disney Jane has so much personality in comparison with her book counterpart.
Jane acting so similar to Peter Pan at the end was very sweet and even interesting.
great video👍, I appreciate seeing attention brought to Return To Neverland, it's one of my favourites

I also loved how thay handled the relationship between Peter Pan and Jane
I really liked Jane as a character one of the best Disney sequel character in my opinion
This movie is just fantastic and wonderful
It's a bummer Disney aren't like this anymore
They have lost the fun and funny and that what makes Disney so special
You want to go on adventures with these character
    You don't get that
Anymore with modern day Disney except for a few movies
Before the Disney live action reboot thing took over

Man I was so heartbroken when I learnt that the general internet consensus about this movie was that it was just another unnecessary disney sequel. Back when I was a Kid this movie and Steven Spielberg's Hook were my favortie Peter Pan content ever.
Loved the video, and agree with all of it! I think this movie doesn't have anything to envy from the original classic movie. And I loved that, for most of the character, this movie felt like it was done to faithfully continue some character arcs.
I adored Jane as a protagonist, I found her story and development to be more easy to relate to than Wendy's. I lover her journey of discovering back her childish joy (and I had a crush on her ngl, blame the latin spanish dub for it, they gave Jane a really mature and raspy voice that I found really lovely, now add the fact that its an incredible character and ofc they had 6-7 year old me seated).
And the music, god, the music. "I'll try" was translated more directly to "I'll do it" which imo turns the sing a lot more determined yet hopeless than it already is lol.
The only thing I wish they did too was making any reference to John and Michael, like, just to know what kind of adults they turned into too. And I think they should have finished the lost boys' development from the og movie by making them finally choose to return to the human world (although I guess the fact that it was WWII definitely would prevent a proper conclusion for them)

I'm so glad to find someone else also loves this film, I adore it so much. I love everything about it, the story, the high quality animation, the music is great, the characters are well written, Hook is a great villain perfectly balancing comedy with menace, the actors are great fill-ins, just everything. I will concede the Lost boys' song is a bit weak, I want to like it more for the reasons you mentioned and can see why people would but I just can't. Eh, nothing's perfect though!
One scene I really love is the opening 2 minutes, flying through the clouds as the silhouettes of the characters from the first film are illuminated by Tinkerbell, the score featuring soundbites and themes from the original blended together, to the reveal of Peter Pan and the transition from young Wendy to her children, it's just absolute chef's kiss. It was what made me fall in love with the film again after not seeing it for so long. Side note, you're artwork is pretty stellar, nice work.

Cannot agree more with everything that said. I was really happy to have Peter Pan not be a jerk like he was in the previous. Even tho in the original stories, he was a darker version, in the Disney version I wanted to love his character but he was too bratty and practically ignored Wendy throughout the movie. Where in this one he actually tries to get Jane involved and show her around the island and even including her in their fun.
And yes Peter and Jane have better chemistry than with Wendy.

And it’s always nice to see people talk about this movie and defend that adults are aloud to be whimsical and fun as well. And Jane is a character I appreciated more as I got older cause I understood her a lot better. And this was nice to stumble into anytime I see any kind of content on this movie or of Peter and Jane I get really happy ^^

🚂Great video, as always! There’s a lot more that I have to say about this movie (and the Disney sequels in general) than I originally thought I had to say. However, in order to keep this comment from turning into an essay, I will just focus on one scene that is my personal favorite scene in the movie: Captain Hook’s manipulation of Jane.
I was never someone who liked the campiness of Captain Hook. I always liked him for his more serious side. So, I originally hated the scene where he manipulates Jane because his campiness was turned up to 11. However, I only just recently realized the cleverness of that scene. Hook was intentionally being extra campy in order to win Jane over, and it works. But what made the scene work so well for me is how you see his mask slip a few times. The first time is when he describes Peter Pan as “just a boy who will never grow up,” and the second time is at the end of the scene when, after Jane agrees to help him, he says, “You’re doing the right thing, my dear. I’m your only way out,” as he menacingly backs into the shadows. It’s for these reasons that this scene went from being my least favorite scene in the movie to my favorite scene in the movie, and I actually feel kind of silly that it took me this long to realize the cleverness of this scene.

🪁🧸🪀 I 100% agree with you, adults can and a lot of us DO enjoy movies and shows that are colorful and fun, and this should be more widely accepted! 👏
Anyways, love seeing the love for this movie! ❤ It's amazing how it can honor and respect so much the continuity of the first one, while also improving upon it in many ways. I've always preferred this version of Peter over the one from the 1953 film. And seeing Wendy remain such a positive mother figure amongst all the difficulties in her life is super inspiring. I really did grow up loving this film, and still do. (I can say the same for several of the sequels but I'd take ages talking about that, so I won't elaborate 😅)
You're also totally not alone, I've shipped Peter and Jane too since I first watched this movie. 😅 They're just cute together. But whether it's romantic or platonic, it's undeniable that their relationship has some great development. Oh, and same with Jane's friendship with Tink. It was really sweet.
Always such a joy to listen to your deep-dive opinion/review videos! ✨️

FINALLY! 💗Someone who loves Return to Neverland as much as I do! I always loved how emotionally mature this movie was, and how they were not afraid to show the crude reality of war just because it was a family movie. Jane is without doubt one of Disney's best protagonists, for how relatable she is. Anyone in her situation would act the same way as she does. Also, thanks for pointing out how great Peter and Wendy are in this story and how they have developed since the first movie. THIS is how you update a story to make it "more progressive". Btw, I'd like to add how clever the idea was for this movie: if the 1953 was about showing that growing up isn't something to be afraid of, the 2002 sequel shows the importance of childhood, both literally with Jane's character arc and metaphorically, with Wendy's portrayal. 🎡🥰

Mulan 2 made Mulan very...unintelligent. Like Mulan, I'm mostly against arranged marriages as well and believe that people should marry who they love (within reason). But in this case, a whole nation was at risk and the only way to save the nation was to marry off these princesses. It sucks for the princesses, but they had to fulfill their duty in order to save everyone. Mulan ignored the consequences of the nation being in trouble in favor of the girls' happiness and that was selfish of her to do (selfish AND dumb if she couldn't understand why their marriage was important). The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
And yes, she WAS willing to marry the other monarch so that the princesses could be happy, which is a noble thing to do, but that's only because she thought Shang was dead. Once she found out he was alive, she abandoned that noble action.
If it weren't for Mushu coming in clutch, Mulan's nation would have been in trouble because of her choices (and she learned NOTHING).
This severe lack of good judgement and the movie not teaching the lesson that sometimes you don't get what you want and sacrifices need to be made rubbed me the wrong way.

@@TheArtisticAloubell I don't remember much about the movie
But did mulan really abandon the noble action?
      Didn't Mushu immediately intervene?
And how do we actually know she learned nothing ?
I don't really remember much about the movie But I do remember it handled some characters not so well like mushu (I do remember him learning his lesson though) and shang

@@rawdasalmataman7908 I'll admit that my memory of the movie is also a little vague, so I used Wikipedia just now lol
Regarding whether or not Mulan was going to abandon her sacrifice or not, all I know is that after Shang showed up alive, the couple gave the allies enough of a reason to believe that Mulan wouldn't go through with her promise to marry the other guy that Mushu needed to intervene. Otherwise bad things would have happened.
But regardless, Shang ends up saying that Mulan was right about following her heart...but she wasn't. She was making a poor judgement call. The movie is saying that she was right in her initial opinion and that Shang was wrong...when he wasn't.
Basically, the movie is praising Mulan for her decisions and that's not good in this case.
And yes, the movie ruined Mushu as well >_

      @@TheArtisticAloubell Well
My biggest problem with the movie is that it tries to makes mulan look superior to shang and they try to make shang look like a joke
And I felt that was intentional but maybe that was just me
So I would believe what you said considering all that
I don't remember shang saying mulan was right for following her heart
And we have no way of knowing if mulan was going to abandon her noble action
Because if I remember correctly mushu wanted to intervene even before shang came
This movie ruined shang , mulan and mushu

Never liked Peter Pan and Tinkerbelle was a monster! What kid wants to STAY a kid??? Every kid EVER only wants one thing and that's to be a grown up - or at least a big kid. No kid wants to be old, but they want to be grown enough to be left alone. It has nothing to do with reality, of course, but it IS a matter of perception. Big kids are perceived to have more freedom FROM gown ups.

(🌈) I honestly always cry from the song I Try 😅
It's true though that there are some media that depicts the sad and the blah of adulthood, it's why Return to Neverland is the perfect movie to help you gain back your inner child.
In someway, it sort of did help me during my time in covid. Well that and LetMeExplainStudios. It also helped me realize what I was missing in life and trying to get my life back in shape.
