If you think about it, OG Tinkerbell's personality was accurate with the fae lore. The Fae folk are known for being mischiveous, cruel and never have to real your real name to them, so almost sending Wendy and Jane almost to their death makes more sense to her flaws.

The sequel of Peter Pan (animated) is severely underrated. Jane was far away from childish daydreams but as she grew as a person and actually cared for tink, tink's admiration can be seen through and through. That's what a charcter should be. With proper build up and role in the story does a character is established. To think that tink, a major character in Peter Pan was given such less attention in the adaptations feels wrong.

It's odd for the Peter Pan and Wendy Tink being casted as a POC, and yet her role/personality is diminished to "the magic getter/provider". That's a little questionable in its own right.
As for Disney's Pixie Hollow series, I remember watching a few of the movies- and while Tink is different from the 50s/02 movie, you really have a point there. A well-written character, even if different in depictions, is better than a poorly written one.

The worst aspect in my opinion was Wendy. Wendy is supposed to be this romantic, gentle, maternal figure to her brothers which is why she's brought to Neverland in the first place by Wendy to serve as a mother to the Lost Boys but there's none of that in this one. No, instead they turn her into an overly aggressive, rude, bratty pain in the butt who has all the emotional maturity of a 5-year-old. Now, I don't mind giving her more agency, but they couldn't even keep the core of her basic character intact and I don't understand why? Is there something wrong with a girl being traditionally girly? Can a girl not be her own person unless she's swinging a sword?
As for Tinker Bell and Peter, I think an interesting change would be Tinker Bell was the one who raised Peter in Pixie Hollow after he fell out of his pram and she loves him in a maternal way. However, Peter, especially after seeing he was essentially replaced by his biological mother with his younger brother, always craved having a human mother and wanted Wendy to be her. This is why Tinker Bell hates Wendy in this version since she had been the one to raise Peter before he could walk and taught him how to fly in the first place and believes Wendy is trying to steal her child from her. Eventually, though Wendy and Tink start to bond over their shared love for their family and Peter learns to appreciate Tinker Bell as his mother and apologizes to her for being so ungrateful.

@@TheArtisticAloubell I know...Even if it makes no sense and could get in the way of a better story.
Thank you. It goes with Wendy's arc, which also acts as a bit of a deconstruction to her archetype where upon seeing the mess she and her brothers made in their room, her father thinks it's time to send Wendy off to a finishing school where they'll teach her to be a proper lady. This terrifies Wendy since she'll be away from her brothers and will have to learn to be a grown-up, so when Peter offers to take her and her brothers to Neverland, she jumps at the chance. However, Peter wants Wendy to be the Lost Boys' mother, which at first she believes is an easy task but finds it to be much more challenging than she thought, especially with how childish everyone else is being while she's the one stuck with all the heavy lifting. She thinks about her parents more often and wonders if they ever feel like this. Eventually, she gains a new appreciation for all the things her parents do and starts to feel bad for putting more work on them to the point she wants to go home with John and Michael.

(Best Disney sequel that more people need to see) I also really appreciate how you touched on tinkerbells jealousy and how you even brought up peters concern for tinkerbell. I fell like that really helps bring up both characters arcs from the previous movie as it connects to the ending scene of Peter Pan where tinkerbell sacrifices herself for Peter. Which then Peter choses tinks safety over Wendys and the lost boys, compared to the beginning of the film where he just straight up banishes her. The mention of Peter caring for tinkerbell really shows development within the characters and how this time in return to Neverland, peter not only understands tinkerbell a bit better but he also sacrificed himself for tinkerbell instead by trying to save her from Janes disbelief.

LOl I guess you have a point. The only reason they're crapping all these live action remakes out one after another, is because of the "aesthetic" and apparently they think that younger audiences won't go see colorful and light movies as much, because they probably like the dullness better. Like, I saw a clip from the live action Little mermaid and it was SO STUPID because they kept the cartoony song and singing crab, even though it was all dark and dull. It looked ridiculous. Like, if they're going to make it look more dark and dull, then make it suit the mood by making it more serious instead of a silly crab. -If they wanted to make a better remake they could be creative and be different from the original by swapping the singing crab with a tough tomboy pirate friend-

The people behind this movie were seriously asking how Tink glowing would be 'realistic', when she's a fairy that makes others fly with Pixie dust? I was never going to see Peter Pan & Wendy (or any other live action remake), but this and everything else I've heard has ensured I never will.
For the Tinkerbell movie series, I do agree that Tinkerbell doesn't fully match her movie personality, but as you said, I can understand wanting to make her a more appealing protagonist. I personally consider them to be their own separate thing and enjoy them as that, so the canon is not disrupted. Also, I'm biased because that Tinkerbell, and all of the main Pixie Hollow girls, were among my first crushes (they still are).

I love Tinker Bell and Vidia's relationship in the Tinker Bell movies.
In The Great Fairy Rescue, Vidia is so guilt ridden with getting Tink captured, you feel for the Fast-Flyer. And then she risks everything to save Tink, which causes Tink to return the favour. And did I mention the hug they share after Vidia is saved? Aww!
Secret of the Wings doesn't give us as much, but there is one detail I love. Periwinkle's wings were going to break because they got too warm, so they use the snow machine to get her back to Winter. Tinker Bell goes under it, naturally, because Periwinkle's her sister, but she can't carry Peri alone. So who goes under the snow machine with her? Vidia. As a fast flyer, her wings are *essential* for her talent. Vidia was willing to risk that to help Periwinkle? She really HAS grown from The Great Fairy Rescue. And when Tink is upset that she and Peri have to part ways, Vidia tries to comfort her by gently telling her to go home.
In The Pirate Fairy, I love that Vidia ended up with Tinker Bell's talent. Tink is just gobsmacked and Vidia's reaction is priceless. And when Vidia finally gets her tinker talent under control, Tink is impressed.
I haven't seen Never Beast, but I should watch it.

I honestly would've loved to see spicy OG Tink in the Pixie Hollow movies, although that definitely wouldn't have worked very well for a children's movie protagonist. I don't know about other kids, but tiny me ignored the character arcs in movies and wanted to be exactly like pre-character development protagonists. I definitely would have tried to take over Tink's bad traits. Still, the Pixie Hollow movies are my favorites, considering I never saw the OG movie and grew up with Tink's series. I do love the little moments when a bit of Tink's original personality gets to shine through. Like the conflict she has in the second movie where I remember the entire problem of the movie being created by Tink snapping.
Also, sidenote, I have an extra soft spot for the Secret of the Wings movie. I didn't really see it as a kid, but Periwinkle character-wise feels very close to myself and I adore her. There's one thing that I don't like about the first Tinker Bell movie, at the end of the film we see Tinkerbell returning the music box to a little girl, SPOILER that little girl was Wendy.
That part makes no sense because it ruins the time line.
In the Peter Pan 1953, the narrator tells us that Mary, aka Wendy's mother, believes that Peter Pan is the spirit of youth, that means that she already knows about him, and let's not forget at the end George, aka the father, said so himself *"You know, I have the strangest feeling that I've seen that ship before. A long time ago, when I was very young"*
    What does this tells us?
It tells us that Peter Pan stories were around for a long time that George and Mary, have already heard about them during their childhood and possibly might have seen him. And when they grew up, got married and had children aka Wendy, John, and Michael, they told them about Peter Pan's adventures.
So I'm sorry to say this, but whomever decided to show Wendy on the Tinker bell movie was an idiot, cause that would mean she is what, 6 or 7 yrs old, and has no idea who Peter Pan is cause, he doesn't exist yet, which also means her mother doesn't know anything about him either.
And as they kept making films after films of TB, it seams like time is passing by because the fairies need to prepare the seasons every year, so if I have to take a wild guess, I say it could have been like 4 to 5 years, Wendy should be now around 10 to 12 yrs old, so around that time she would have met Peter Pan and the events of the movie already happening. But I guess since this was a children's movie, they won't care about those minor little details, well jokes on them cause those minor little details bothered me since I was a child😑
At this point, I am just going to imagen that the Tinker Bell franchise is a separate story from the original Disney's Peter Pan 1& 2 movies, cause the inconsistencies in the timelines really pisses me off even till now😒
Anyway, Aloubell I agree with everything you said about the lame live action Peter Pan, and that they wasted Tinker Bells character, heck I didn't even watch the mvoie because I knew it was going to be bad.
Can't wait for your next video.

I never noticed she didn't glow until you pointed it out which also makes no sense because i always asumed she glows because she is covered in (or possibly is made out of) pixie dust.
There was a plot point where we find out hook used to be peter's friend and it would've been so easy to say he met tink in the story or saved her once or something like that. This movie is just executed in the worst way possible with pretty much everything I swear-

They strip the old personalities that made these characters iconic, like Mulan's resourcefulness in favor of a chosen one plot with magic Qi power. In five years (if that) no one will remember new Tinkerbell. The glowing ball of sass, jealousy, and homicidal tendencies will always be the one people think of.

I have a question: if Neverland isn't earth and is an entirely seperate realm of reality, is it accurate to say Tinkerbelle is quote on quote 'black'? If Africa does not exist in Neverland and Tink isn't a human, then wouldn't it make more sense to simply say she looks like she could be African or African American or ambigiously brown? Would calling her 'black' in terms of race be accurate? How does race work in a fantasy setting with apperances so close to our world?
Speaking as someone who has a pretty diverse cast of faerie OCs I would very much like this explained to me.

    • @TheArtisticAloubell
      @TheArtisticAloubell  Год назад +1

I guess she certainly wouldn't be African, but simply to make communication amongst fans and movie goers easier, it's easiest to just call her black or brown skinned.
In universe, they don't reference their races or different looks at all, so we just apply our own logic to them.
For your own stories, you can come up with a different naming convention 😁

🧚‍♀️ I too refuse to watch Peter Pan and Wendy, but since you mentioned her lack of glow, can I just rant for a second about how dumb and frustrating it is that modern Hollywood live-action movies and even shows just... refuse to do good lighting? Like, if it's a night scene (which nowadays is most scenes), you can't see A THING! It's just as you put it: it looks like the only source of light they used to film is a dying candle. It's especially apparent when you watch during the daytime, and I'm tired of watching movies and not being able to SEE the movie. And it's possible to do this, the Raimi Spider-Man and Lord of the Rings trilogies actually have well-lit night scenes. When did directors/editors/whoever decided that the movies needed to be as literally dark as possible because... edgy? Rant over, just bugs me that's all. 😑
P.S: I too LOVE Return to Neverland (also more than the original), and I'd love to hear you talk about it in a future video for sure! 😍

I've seen highlights of Peter Pan & Wendy and I'd go as far as to say it's an insult. And insult in how it claims to be a "more progressive" version of Peter Pan, when it turned basically the two main characters, Peter and Wendy into blatant jerks. Peter Pan 2003 and Peter Pan: Return to Neverland 2002 were already more progressive takes on the story, and didn't need to take away core personality of the characters to the point of making them unrecognizeable (like Peter's cunning and leadership skills, Tinkerbell's sassiness or Wendy's kind and motherly nature). Disney must stop with these remakes.
Aaah, finally someone who loves the Pixie Hollow series !! ❤ I also like The Legend of the Neverbeast. But in my case it's my second favourite. The first is The Secret of the Wings.

I don't care if she's a different race compared to the 1953 movie, but she's not my tink. It's one of the reasons I just don't have the heart to care for Disney anymore. Did Siamese people get offended by them? Did any Asians get offended by them? They seemed harmless and they weren't looking down on any race. Even if it was a stereotype, stereotypes came from reality and some people do live up to the stereotype, so it's no necessarily a bad thing. Same with the Indians. The Indians weren't seen as bad or less than Peter and his friends. They just existed and had their own traditions. And they weren't even based on a real-world tribe so...what's the problem?

Whether it's towards the Indians in Peter Pan, getting rid of splash mountain because of Disney not wanting any part with getting people mad because of the movie they did in the late 40s (Song of the South), or with the new live action Lilo and Stitch movie and making such a big deal towards Nani and David's actors and not being correctly accurate compared to the movie (their words not mine).

Where maybe all her friends didn't survive and she was then on her own for a long time, with almost no purpose because the home that gave her purpose was now nothing. Either that- or she accidentally did something to be thrown out of her home. Part of me thinks that maybe she want on some adventure with the pixie dust Fairy that everyone seemed to ship her with, and maybe along the way she met Peter Pan and something happened to the Pixie dust guy and she can't go back home so she now lives with Peter but is just never satisfied- thus her bad temper.

Personally, I hate the old 1950s Disney Peter Pan, and especially Tinker Bell's design. She's supposed to be a teen! Disney's design for her is disgusting, she was never portrayed that way in the book or any other versions until Walt Disney thought it was okay to give her a short little dress and draw her body with exaggerated curves. Like, the story's from the 1900s she's not going to be dressed like that, even if she IS a fairy. Honestly, I don't care what race she is either... and I agree with you, modern day versions of the characters are literally all based off the Disney version of her, and not the originals. I wish Disney would do something different with their live action remakes and forget about the old movies. Like, maybe be more creative and take it from the books. Like, they could make some of the same changes that the Disney versions made, depending on what the changes are, but I wish they'd come up with their own creativity. Like you said about the Little Mermaid, and them still naming her Ariel and giving her the iconic red hair and everything. For a live action remake, they could do something totally different. Personally, I don't want a movie with a singing crab, I'd rather they swapped out the singing crab and gave her a pirate friend or something. I must have been one of those few kids, I never watched those old classics as a kid and when I saw clips and stuff. I thought they were stupid.
Also, I like how Tinkerbell was portrayed better in the "Disney fairies/Pixie Hollow" movies, better than in the 50s version + 2023 remake, because they gave her more flaws like you said. I haven't seen much of those movies but I remember when they were super popular and they'd play clips on the Disney channel, and I always thought they looked cool. The thing is though, as old as the Peter Pan story is, I kinda of feel bad that it's considered "Disney property" now and every time someone brings up Peter Pan and the fairies, everyone thinks of Disney. That's the same with all the other fairytales. I'm sorry if I sound so bitter towards Disney but I kind of am, since I mostly grew up with their silly sitcoms and cartoons (when I said cartoons I meant like Fish Hook, Jungle Junction, Phineas & Ferb) and the only few movies I watched when I was a kid that were from Disney were Brave, Tangled, UP, and I think I might have been 11 when Frozen came out, so technically I was still a kid (I can't believe Frozen's turning 10 years old). Also, even tho I hate the original 50's movie, the 2000's sequel actually seems good. I honestly hate how she's portrayed in the 50's version, again, and I find the old movies to be offensive to women. Like, the 1950s were such a sexist era! I can't like movies from those days. Just making her a sassy, attractive girl, I don't agree with. I'm sorry to disagree with you on that, but you convinced me about her having flaws. (I also don't think old movies should be shown to today's kids, especially if they're too young to understand that what people thought was normal back then is no longer normal). Neither the book, nor the 1950's movie are "timeless" and I think that as we change through history, we need to make versions of the story that are more suitable for today's audience.
Also, my best friend loves the 2023 movie more than the 50's one, and I would watch neither one. her favorite is actually the 2003 non-Disney one. She used to be a huge Disney fan but she's not a Disney fan anymore. I personally won't watch any of the classics, nor the live action remakes, but if I had a choose, I'll watch the live action remakes on one of those free "Watch movies online" type of websites, maybe just for kicks and giggles. (I can picture my friends and I making fun of the live action Little Mermaid)

@@dramadramadrama977 women being equal with men is fine, good, nothing wrong with it. What I mean is when the female character is infallible, can’t make any mistakes, can’t be taught anything by a man, and all male characters have to suck. That’s what I mean.

You write Tinkerbell is in the public domain. But to a certain extent but Disney's Tinkerbell is not in the public domain. Which means they're pinkerbell from the Peter Pan movie that Disney get has a look and a feel to it that people actually expect to be accurately done. Now Peter Pan and Wendy wasn't a disney-themed sure nobody what care but because it is Disney and Tinkerbell is the face of Disney movies for the intros she should be white-blond green dress not black as hell

You're right that Disney's Tink isn't in the public domain, but general Tinkerbell is. I get what you mean, though. I can see both sides of the coin as to why Tink should look a certain way.
I personally don't mind if Disney diversifies Tink since in the wide scope of things, they don't exclusively own her or her name. They just own a certain design of hers.
      But to each their own!

Also, do add to my last point, it does bother me to an extent that Tinkerbell is black but that's only because Disney casted a black woman for diversity/representation points. If their intentions were purer, I wouldn't care since I'm so used to seeing different looking Tinkerbells. But since the intentions weren't pure, I'm not 100% on board.
