  • Whenever I speak with a Porsche 964 owner, I always ask whether they think the 964 is worth the insane money they're going for. In most cases, I get the predictable answer (YES!), but not always. Check out this video to get an owner's TRUE opinion.
In this Porsche 911 owner interview, my friend Wes takes us through his 1990 Porsche 964 C2 Manual Coupe in Black on Tan Interior (with Pepita seat center inserts). He will talk to us about the vision he has for this car, why he chose the 964, and what he loves most about it. He'll also talk about his overall opinion about whether the Porsche 964 lives up to the hype.
Is this Porsche 964 Stock? No Way!
Like me with my Porsche 993, Wes just couldn't bear to leave his Porsche 964 stock, so he had the car sent directly to the shop after buying it in order to have it dialed in to be exactly what he envisioned. This car, in my opinion, is tastefully done...not to mention a backroads blaster.
In this video, Wes will talk us through all of the mods done to his Porsche 964, including:
    ---------------------Exterior 964 Modifications-------------------
Replica Fuchs wheels (with Matte silver RS look)
    Bullet wheel studs
    Upgraded Aero mirror
Rennline LED headlights with fluted lens
    Bilstein Suspension
    Porsche 964 foglight delete
    Porsche 964 brake duct cooler
    Clear corner lenses
    Front lip spoiler
    Fabspeed muffler
    ---------------------Interior 964 Modifications-------------------
    Momo prototipo steering wheel
    RS Door cards
    Custom seats with pepita centers
    FD motorsports sport shifter
    Rennline E brake handle
    FD motorsports golden rod
    Rennline pedal kit
    Rennline chrome gauge bezel
    Continental head unit
    Rennline Fire Extinguisher

Wes's car is beautiful. And, I gotta agree with him. I feel like these 964's are over priced. They were the least desirable air cooled for years and years. Nobody wanted them. Enter Singer...*boom*! To each their own though. Like many owners it's the joy of modding your car to your personal touch and just enjoying the ownership experience.

Brian - I agree with you fully about the ownership/ driving experience.
I would go further with Singer. I think they have done serious damage to the 964 lineage. I’ve had a glimpse behind the curtain. Contrary to what Rob Dickinson likes to say, the donor cars they use are typically in good running condition, with only minor damage to the body being accepted - the cars they take aren’t ‘tired’. I’ve been in, all over and underneath a Singer build. Their workmanship is impeccable; and the coherence of their technical design work is truly admirable.
That being said, Singer destroys the DNA and the soul of every 964 they rip apart. The end result is a performance piece of jewelry, with the interior smelling like a $20K Hermes handbag - it’s far beyond anything Porsche would ever make. The business case has and will likely continue to preclude it. Singers are a cross of Porsche performance and Rolls Royce luxury. They have no place in the Porsche lineage.

I love these kind of videos. It's cool to see what other enthusiasts do to their cars. I like his car. I think the mods are very tasteful. It gives the car a little more modern stance but keeps much of the originality at the same time. Great looking simple interior. Today's cars have complicated digital interiors with tons of buttons and switches and touch screens. It is refreshing to see a simple elegant look. And it is a driver not a museum piece. 👍👍 from me!

A very tastefully done 964, the owner is spot on with his comments too….

Cheers Will to another great Video. 🙏

So….a few more thoughts. While I think Resto-mod shops like Singer contributed to the 964 craze from a design point, what I really think happened was it confirmed the model, from both a body and engine/drivetrain perspective, as a solid platform by making such a significant investment. It portrayed confidence in both performance and value. People say that these mod shops are buying them all up and inflating values, but there are lots of these out there and I don’t think that is necessarily the case (plus Singer is buying tips now anyway).
I feel it is a great car because it is the culmination of development on a car that spanned over 30 years. The aftermarket and Porsche factory support of these cars is tremendous and customization has been widely embraced as evidenced by the market.
I love it and thanks for all the positive comments. Wes.

Love the matte striping. I think it ties in well and reminds me of the Cayman R with the same striping. Values are wild and that benefits current owners if we ever sell. The are great driver cars and hope the values won’t deter owners from truly enjoying them.

Thanks Will, very nice interior! Your videos are being watched in Europe now too. Greetings from Amsterdam. The 964s feel a bit overpriced however what I notice - also with myself - is that these cars are keepers. They look great and it is fantastic to drive them. Also they are fairly easy and cost friendly to maintain as long as you don't fix stuff that is not broken. C2 burgundy/polar silver.

Will, another awesome video! Thanks for sharing the story with all of us. Wes done a great job!! The car is done very tastefully and you know that I am pure as they come. Totally agree on the silliness of prices with our 964z … But, i don’t think they will lose the momentum. So better buy if you want one!

These cars are great but definitely not worth their blown up value. I believe the new values are because of all the high end restomod shops buying them up and individuals wanting to copy those. They are good but they do have artificially inflated values. But as in all capitol markets it’s whatever people will pay!

Beautiful car and that interior is top notch and really takes it to the next level. Glad to hear it’s a keeper. The 964 is having it’s moment but I don’t see it lasting forever. When I was deciding between the 964 and 993 last year, it was a no brainer for me to go with a 993 (price was not a concern). Still, it’s good to see market love for any and all air cooled Porsches. Just glad I got in to one sooner rather than later.
Enjoy your videos and the time you put in to making quality content. Cheers

I love 964s. I remember back when you get a solid one for about $25k. Are they worth the prices they are going for now? Nope. But hey, its value is whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Absolutely gorgeous 964. I'm not that crazy about the seat inserts....if it were me I'd just have all tan leather with the black piping. But it's not me LOL. Love the door panels....great idea on those and look so clean. Love the ghost stripes as well. I always think "I wouldn't get black cause it's harder to see the detailing in the bumper, side skirts, etc"....but then I see a black one and I'm like "OMG that looks so F'n good!"

Oddly enough I started looking for a 964 to back date also. the more and more I thought the more I couldn't change the classic subtle beauty of my 964. Like this owner the Guards Red wouldn't had been my 1st choice, but it was the top 3.

In my humble opinion, the prices that air cooled porsches are going for now a days is ridiculous. This big rush to buy one has drove the prices up to a point where the auto has taken on a " investment/dividends " philosophy which is a shame. These cars and Porsches in general were engineered and developed to bring the driver and the car closer to exploit the dynamics of sport driving. To buy up these cars just to park them in a garage and rarely drive them in hopes to gross a profit is as poser as you get. Take a look around you, how many porsches do ya see on the streets or your favorite canyon area or in a time attack event? That is week! You will never get to know that wonderfully designed machine. It takes a building up of driving anything to get good at it. Yes , I said poser. The ones that call themselves purists, these are the ones that have never connected with a Porsche at the threshold of its ability. Hell, quit talking about how the 996 is such a bad car. The 996 is bad ass. Like anything , it needs to be used. I own one and I cant wait to drive it daily. So in ending, all the wannabee purists close your pie holes please. I know.. in all your self proclaiming, call yourselves " Garage Queen Purists " Peace and Love to all the Porsche owners who bought for the right reasons.
    Best regards
    G.O. san Jose Ca.

My favorite generation in my favorite color combo black/tan. The matte wheels look amazing. And the stance of the car is spot on. The classic stereo is sweet with the speaker upgrades.
Seeing a car like this I would:
1- remove the stripes and side decals.
2- Change all Porsche emblems to the original color (that’s the hood and wheel center caps) - the contrast with the black paint makes it look beautiful.
3- The “Carrera 2” badge I would match the exact same finish of wheels.
And that’s when I wake up from the dream. Amazing machine. Thanks for sharing!
