    Hey great video. For rule clarification, and a lot of people are getting that wrong. You don't make any noise. You enter a room and you check if you can hear anything. That is why you can enter a room through corridor no. 1 and get noises out from no. 3.
    Further that is the reason why when you move into a room with an companion you do not need to roll, because he already checked if there are noises around. Or if you trigger an encounter you can get a blank, what means the noises you heard were noises from the machines. I personally find it much easier to teach to new players, because it makes more sence.

    • @BoardOfItReviews
      @BoardOfItReviews  3 года назад +17

      Thanks for letting us know! That's really interesting! How does a careful movement play into that thematically then as you decide where to place a token? I guess we always thought that the noise you made from entering a new room radiates out which is what the noise roll was for, but that makes complete sense and is much easier to teach new players!

    • @Noname6589
      @Noname6589 3 года назад +17

      @@BoardOfItReviews the careful movement is really something that is a bit strange about this rule. But as far as I understand it, is that you move with more cautiousness and therefore you can better hear the direction where it comes from. But that is just my guess.
      The introduction text of Nemesis Lockdown has a part, where the survivor explains that. She says, that she walks carefully to locate the intruders.
      "Unlike the facility staff, she had practical Knowledge of the creatures.
      Her moves were quiet, careful, and she often paused to listen to any
      Noises in the corridors and rooms around her. That was the only way
      to know where a creature was lurking. Bitter experience taught her that
      once you’d seen one, it was already too late."

      It's always annoyed me the past few years with this game element, the rule that the noise markers are noise you hear, rather than noise you make (especially as it's from character movement) I can tell you now.. firing your gun should be lighting noise markers up everywhere. Yet it makes no change to the aliens out there. I guess they are deaf ;) p.s The PC game of Lockdown is excellent. Can't wait for the Nemesis original board game update.

    • @Zwerggoldhamster
      @Zwerggoldhamster 2 года назад +2

      I think it abstracts both the noise you make and the noise you hear into one mechanic.
      How else would you make fit thematically careful movement or the scout's ability card where you can move without rolling for noise?

    I agree with your conclusion, I own and have played both, I have to say, owning both definitely isn't necessary at all unless you are a superfan and want to mix components. In a nutshell lockdown is a direct replacement/upgrade. The only reason to buy nemesis over lockdown is that you really really really prefer the theme of being on a ship to recreate alien vs being in a facility on mars.

      Ha that's funny as they aren't our thing either...we're much too competitive. The good thing about Lockdown is that the Semi-Coop doesn't feel too much like Coop (particularly if you're trying to kill another player), but rather your own journey where you occasionally bump into/work with others. We actually started Lockdown by playing with the Coop variant while we got the rules down and hated it because it made the game much harder but also less engaging. Was a much better game when we changed to Semi-Coop.
      No problem hope it was helpful!

(I haven't had to much of a chance to look though the books yet) I wanted to get the original for so long but couldn't get it like most but then they said they would be bringing it back out and in retail along side the lockdown and I made the choice to just get lockdown at the KS between just cost of buying stuff for that time and it seemed a bit more better for lower player counts. I also like how most of the Aliens can be used in both games a great way to mix things up and add more to it as well as you could just get lockdown and one or two of the or original expansions for more choice.

    I have bought both board games, my experience in playing the first nemesis is easier to play for people who want to try for the first time. The skill cards of the original nemesis players are also simpler compared to lockdown. Their weaponry is also much better. As for lockdown, there are many new things, the character skills are also unique, the shape of the map, and the monsters that attack in the dark, making it very easy for you to die when playing in the game.
    It took me and my friend a few plays to start gradually understanding how to survive in lockdown. Ah and also, the weaponry in this game is so bad that a character with a flat dmg number feels better than the gun you get in the red card. Lock down in my opinion is better choice for players who are used to playing nemesis (although you can immediately play lock down) . for those of you who like to play among us there are various skill and environment gimicks to be able to eliminate other players. While the original is simpler to play and easier to introduce to new players.

    Any suggestions about the smaller content expansions (carmomorphs, void seeders and aftermath ) and which seems more essential?

    • @BoardOfItReviews
      @BoardOfItReviews  3 года назад +5

      Honestly, as with many big box Kickstarters, none of it is essential. I wouldn't recommend any of the extra content unless you're already a big Nemesis fan and looking for more variability. Nemesis is inherently so random and variable that each game is quite different already, so there's even less of a need to buy expansions to shake things up. Plus, it's so complex and long that how often will you really get it to the table? That said, it's always fun to swap out the aliens with new ones and try out different things. So if you've got to the point where you're a little bored with the intruders then I'd maybe think about moving on to the Carnomorphs and so on.

Because of all the different situations that may arise, it’s definitely not something you can completely memorise and your head will be in the rule book a lot, even after multiple plays!

      I'd say Eclipse is less complex, particularly if you've played euros before. Even though Eclipse is rated more complex on BGG than Nemesis, once you learn the rules, you've learnt the game. With Nemesis, the core gameplay is simple enough, but you run into so many different situations and edge cases and there is so much variety in what can happen that you'll have a million and one questions that might not have clear answers.
      I'd probably recommend Eclipse, just because it's more likely lighter gamers will have a horrible time with Nemesis if they aren't ready for it and its brutality.

      I wish this was a paid ad. That would be great. Sadly, we've never been paid for anything.
      Anyway, the reason there is no B-roll is because this was at the time a new format we tried out, and we had no idea if anyone would even watch it, so we didn't spend the extra couple of hours setting up, filming and packing away both games, every expansion, etc...but unfortunately this became I think our most viewed video, so that teaches us. Big regret, but we do have tons of B-roll in pretty much anything we put out.

      Never! You'll always be forced to look at us, the stars! JK, this was just an oversight by us. This video was the first in our Buyer's Guide series and we had no idea if anyone would find it interesting, so we ended up skipping the B-roll. You'll be glad to know every other buyers guide and review we do has plenty of B-roll, including our Lockdown review.

      Feel free to make your own video with what you'd like to see ;). Our reviews are our main focus, which we put a lot of time and energy into and they contain reams of B-Roll of the games so check out our Lockdown review if that's what you want.

    Board of it might not be the best name if you want people to think you're an engaging channel

      Bit late in the game to change it now! Luckily it hasn't been a problem as I think people are more interested in what the videos are than the name 😁. Thanks tho!

      The video could have been lot better and stands for context if you actually open the boxers and shows the difference 😅
