Zoo Vadis Review: Small Box, Big Arguments
Zoo Vadis is an evolution of Reiner Knizia’s classic negotiation game, Quo Vadis? It retains the elegant, political gameplay that fans have come to love while introducing many innovations and improvements by:
Enhancing the 3-player game and tailoring the board to all player counts through neutral, bribable figures-roaming peacocks
Widening the player count with a second game board for 6-7 players
Expanding the possibilities for strategic negotiation with asymmetric animal abilities
Increasing tactical opportunities with new special laurel tokens
Broadening the appeal of the theme and presentation with vibrant zoo art by Kwanchai Moriya and Brigette Indelicato

Forest Shuffle Review: A Woodland Delight
Excellent review! Very well presented and love your structured arguments.
Rococo is in my top 10 games . Absolutely love it. Great video
Thank you!
One of the best works of Cole Wehrle. I've picked it up once it was available in my region and it was a blast. Although it can sometimes take much more time then expected to negotiate the vacancies and positions for the players, if there are any open. Are you planning to review the next game from Wehrle - Arcs? And specifically it's campaign - Blighted Reach? I wonder, it it is have the same negotiation core as the John Company does
The answer is yes to both. Funnily enough, I literally just did final checks on our review of the base game. In short, there is no negotiation in the base game rules wise. The Blighted Reach does have "summits" which are times when all players can negotiate. However it's probably the element of all of Arcs which has fallen the most flat for us. I'm sure many will disagree, but for us we find it real hard to find anything worth trading or negotiating over. Essentially that is because the game is almost always zero sum, so it would have to be very specific circumstances to consider doing anything of benefit for your opponent.
I personally like this game But I've learnt that quite a few people don't enjoy negotiating style of games Well... what I've found is, this works with people who aren't that competitive Ive played with some people who are highly competitive and when they don't win, despite trying to negotiate, they just end up hating on the game The other issue is, its not a good entry game for people who don't play boardgames
I would disagree with the last statement! I think you're totally right there are a lot of caveats to the game, but I think it's quite simplistic in how you win and what you are trying to do and that appeals to non-hobbyists. I've had some non gamers really enjoy Zoo Vadis, but it has to be the right kind of people, as you say.
I’m finally able to comment on this video now that I finally purchased Grand Austria Hotel. I’ve had Agricola for quite some time and have thoroughly enjoyed it, but I have to agree with Tallie. I enjoy Grand Austria Hotel more especially with the Let’s Waltz expansion.
🥳🥳🥳 - Tallie
Hey Guys, Just curious how you found the card quality? My cards were not good at all.
They were pretty solid. Not like top tier linen cards or anything but good enough that I've never thought about them.
very nice review
Cheers
$126 aus then another $35 postage. Quite ridiculous for an expansion, I get the 'big box' thing, but this increases price dramatically. If I played Kemet a lot then maybe, but a few times a year nearly $170 not worth it for me unfortunately. And that's with the moderate/high probability the expansion will make the game worse than original play...? Thanks for the vid 😊😊
You are most welcome!
Excellent review! Well rounded - as always! Really liked the personal gameplay stories at the end 😄
Thank you very much - they'll be a few more personal stories in our next reviews ;)
i have this on my radar...but dont understand whats there to negiotate about in this game...is there a currency or any kind of things implemented in this?in spartacus we can barter almost about anything...money,slaves,guards,gladiators,support for organize games or even really anoying the kingmaking player with really tough schemes together in the intrigue phase....
You can negotiate votes, points, special powers, actions and also extort players not to do harmful things to them. Most of the time you can't move forward without at least some negotiation for votes.
i never seen so relaxed dogs in my life ,lol😊😊😊☺️☺️😌😌😌🥰🥰🥳🥳🥳😁😁😁
Complete opposite on a walk.
16:28 it is a little disgusting w a pricy game like this they didnt fix the problems from the original which mw makes me very hesitant to ever pick this up in the future unless i get it very cheap and i mean cheap like under 50$
It's a shame!

When I tell you I CACKLED 😂 I love a game with in game politics. Ferrel personally made it so people couldn’t win so those people personally made it so he wouldn’t either.
Vindicated by these comments 😌 - Tallie
Classic Zoo Vadis. If you can’t beat em, punish them
A rule for life I’d say - Tallie
HAHAHAHA! I salute you Tallie! Sorry Farrell, as long as it's not against the rules: all is fair in love, war and negotiation games. She presented an idea to the other players and you were unable to counter it. THAT'S what I love about this genre! Again...well done Tallie!
😌😌😌 feeling smug after these comments, although to be fair I will confess it wasn’t my idea but I willingly benefitted from it 😅 - Tallie
It's a negotiation game and you were outnegotiated, sorry Farrell :)
😌😌😌 - Tallie
I got this years ago. Great game. Very atmospheric.
Thanks for the run through, very clear and informative 👍
Glad it was helpful!
I backed Blood and Sand, but I’m skipping this. I just want a small box expansion. The big box adds significantly to the cost - both for storage and shipping cost. I’m not going to pay $135 for an expansion.
That's totally fair. I think almost universally people would have been happier having separate tiers, as probably 90% primary want the new tiles and not much else.
@@BoardOfItReviews Yes, definitely would love to have the tiles. Wish Matagot would listen to those of us who would like to back at a simpler level. I realize that they can’t piecemeal out every out every component or module , but there’s gotta be some middle ground. Anyway, I appreciate your concise coverage of the expansion!
overpriced and a lot of bloat in this KS, why they couldnt just do the expansion without the big box ill never know, and not to do it on retail is a big mistake. shame as we really enjoy kemet
Yep this seems to be the general consensus. It's a shame you can't just get the tiles alone!
This looks awesome, kemet is one of oue faves, but would like to buy only the two new color sets of tiles, the whole thing is kinda expensive
Yea that seems to be what everyone is saying! Totally get that, I think it comes with a fair few things, but they are not all things everyone wants (big box, solo mode, etc.) making it a tough proposition.
Love this game with the In-laws!
Lucky you, I think this is a bit too complex for our in-laws!
Did you ever finish the campaign?
I did!
Thanks. This was very helpful.
Most welcome!
I have bought most games based off on your recommendations and buyers guide. Just bought Imperium Horizons as well. Thanks for all your efforts!
Well...we hope you feel the same as we did otherwise it's awkward ;). Hope you enjoy Horizons!
This was great. Thanks for your honest opinions.
You are most welcome.
I love train themed games, and especially the network building aspect of it. I have a variety of Ticket to Ride (TTR), standalone games and expansions. I’ve been looking for similar but different games like TTR, and recently found On the Underground, New York/Paris maps. I have only played it a few times and really enjoy it. I’ve also purchases Free Ride, although reviews about the map say it’s flawed to easily identify cities and there locations. I haven’t unboxed Free Ride yet. How did I miss this franchise of games? I must try at least one…despite your excellent comparison and analysis, it’s still a difficult choice. I appreciate how you also shared the actual set up time. Very helpful!
These are still my favourite train games. So much punch in such a short time.
What ever you did, you need to buy your wife some flowers and apologize. She looks very mad.
She should buy me flowers for being anti-Spectral!
It’s just my resting bitch face, it’s why he fell in love with me - Tallie
This is exactly the video I was looking for. I kinda need to own everything, so I want to least know how they are combined and what each game offers. Thank you for your video. Subscribed!
Thanks for the comment and we’re very glad it’s helpful! We love to create our buyer’s guides!
Great comprehensive review and thanks for the honest insights on the expansions.
Thank you, glad it was helpful!
Thorough review. Thank you. Matches many of my thoughts after a play recently. Definitely worth adding for anyone who likes Expeditions.
Cheers Bill!
Some I never heard of. Thank you for this vid, definitely gonna check some out.

Thank for the list and great content. I own Str Wars unlimited, Summoner Wars, and Caper. Battleline is also great. My favorite 2 player is magic the Gathering. Better than SW Unlimited in every way
Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations 🎉
Thanks!!
I really like the way and style in which you both presented this review 👍
Cheers!
Why does the guy always look like he's doing the review under duress?
Because I know one day you'll comment and I'll have to speak to you. Thankfully today is that day. The duress is over.
I enjoyed this expansion and what it added and changed. I will say the higher player count doesn’t add too much more time considering that you are starting off with one worker along with guile and power. Also, I played the solo mode of this game last week and throughly enjoyed it! Thanks for your review. Happy gaming!
Did you play with 6? Tbf, it does say that in the rules! Glad to hear they weren't making it up.
At 5 it was just barely over an hour so when the rulebook states about 90 minutes for a six player game may be accurate, assuming you’re playing with experienced players. Unless your experienced players are the types who like to overthink their options :)
hi everyone
Hiya
Great video, although it cost me $25 ;)
We really should start being paid in commission
Congratulations on your marriage! I was married in Randers a long time ago - hope yours lasts longer.
Sorry you had to go to Randers
how is the prize difference then..?
I assume you mean price? I have no idea what region of the globe you live, what country you live in, and what area of that country you live in. So sorry, but cannot help with that.
in northern europe its about 40-50$ prize difference
sometimes more up to a hundred dollars more while the first is harder to find now in 2024 atleast, lol
Great vid
Cheers!
I like the idea of it being a complex game and love the components. Thanks for the review.
You are most welcome!
good taste in games guys
Glad to hear it!
Nice review. Off-topic gripe (not a criticism of the reviewers :) ), "Dudes on a map" is such a dreadful label. It's clunky and overly informal and doesn't even describe gameplay that well. We should wrestle the much simpler term "war game" from the 12+hour players. It shouldn't be hard, there are only ... like... what? 15 of them or whatever.
