Board Of It's Top 10 Two Player Games (Updated 2024)
Absolutely liked the video. Didn’t expect Arcs to be so high. So, after all you did like the Arcs Blighted Reach with its’ storytelling?
Just out of interest why didn't you think Arcs would be so high? Also, we kinda rated Arcs based upon its own merits, not in combination with Blighted Reach for this list so that didn't factor in.
@ if I remember correctly you were reviewing it in a separate video back when it was starting its shipping to the markets, and for me it looked like it was too cutthroat for you (based on your review). But maybe I understood incorrectly
@@antonkosse2777 Ah I see! I think it's that we expressed how cutthroat it is so people are aware of that before they buy it and take it into consideration. We generally play both sides because it's a review and focus on what people may or may not like. The cutthroat part doesn't bother us in any way, we are mean mean people.
Thank you for the kind words about Dead Cells! Best wishes!
Cheers!
Now I'm on the lookout for Sweet Lands coming to market. Funny how the economy sounds a little like Race for the Galaxy - you pay cards to play things.
RftG is still on our list to play!
why does she look like she abuses him and hes constantly afraid of her reaction...
Nothing wrong with a strong woman putting men in their place
Holy crap, that lady's cadence is super annoying. Her voice goes up at the end of every sentence? So she sounds like she's always? Asking endless questions?
Love the sweaters! Great vid! Gotta check out the reskinned undaunted now 😅
Cheers!
Thanks for your list! For me, the three standout games my group played are: A Message From the Stars, The Morrison Game Factory, and Oathsworn. Good times! I would like to give Dead Cells a try at some point, but I didn't back it, so who knows? Keep warm with those great sweaters! :D
I've heard such mixed things about A Message From the Stars, but I do love deduction! Need to get back to Oathsworn too.
Thanks for sharing your top picks. Off the top of my head, my top new-to-me games this year are: Andromeda's Edge, Scholars of the South Tigris, Dune: Uprising, Cosmoctopus, Frosthaven, Revive, Oathsworn, Wondrous Creatures, Sleeping Gods, and Rolling Realms. I really like Wyrmspan and Ironwood as well, and I'm looking forward to Callisto as my first Undaunted game.
We've got Scholars on the shelf! Would also very much like to play Revive. Thanks for sharing!
Great video. My favourite game of the year isn’t a new one. It’s search for Planet X. Merry Christmas to you both. 🎄👍 🥃
Cheers! That's a game that's been on our to try list for years...
I love your channel! Thanks so much! Thanks for being authentic souls and not after the internet fame or the internet money whatever. In the jungle or hundreds of meaningless channels, I feel the passion and soul in all your reviews and videos! Keep the great work up! You are awesome! Thanks a lot!!
Wow, very very kind words! Thank you so much!
Thank you for the BG content in 2024!
You are most welcome!
Please put the box cover on the corner of the screen when you're talking about the game... sometimes i switch to work come back to you guys and have no idea what game you're talking about 😞
Also love these videos from you two! My tastes are very similar to yours.
Love your Root content! I think I saw you had a hand in designing one of the new expansion boards? Cannot wait! Frogs for the win.
@ Awh thank you ❤️ yes the Gorge map is my design. I’m stoked for the new factions, frogs are shaping up AMAZING.
@@LordoftheBoard Amazing, can't wait to try it out! I'm not sure anything can beat the Lizards, but the Frogs would be the ones to do it.
Hey guys, thanks for the top 10 list! Can I suggest a more zoomed in video. When watching this at 1.5x zoom the composition is much improved. Just a thought 🙏
Thanks for the suggestion!
I found it pretty hilarious (in an awesome way) that Just One made it on to either of your lists. Mainly because you are very much heavy euro gamers. I have played it a few times this year and think it is a great party style game. Possibly one of the best I have played. I will definitely check out pampero. Thanks for the video, love your channel❤
Thanks so much for watching! It seems that one word game always sneaks on the list...there's something to be said about games you can play with anyone!
Great lists, greater sweaters!
Love the love for the sweaters!
couldn't back the campaign- do we know if sweetlands will retails?
I am not sure - maybe to a limited extent? I think the kickstarter did quite well, so some stores likely picked it up.
A wonderful year of gaming indeed. So much fun playing with loved ones! And thanks for everything you’ve shared with us this year - happy holidays to you both!
Thanks for watching and happy holidays!
So glad I caught this in time for Christmas shipping, great recommendations as always! Curious whether you've played Slay the Spire and how you think it stacks up against Dead Cells if so (ordered the former this morning and wondering if I can justify adding the latter 😂)?
We have not! Certainly interested to, but just haven't gotten around to it yet - a few people have asked so seems like a task for the new year!
How do I keep coming back to this channel? Oh yeah, you two like medium to heavy games. You’ve earned my subscription, thank you!
Oh boy do we! Thanks so much for subscribing, we'll be sure to cover big heavy games as much as possible.
I haven't played Agricola, but Caverna is one of my top games and is something of a sequel to Agricola.
I've heard mixed things about Caverna in comparison to Argicola, but of course would like to try it out - will have to maybe take a look at a board game cafe.
Never heard of sweetlands. Going to check it out now, thanks. I am in favour of the flexibilty of your top 10 of 2024 list, including prototypes is actually very handy for my purchasing and thats why I watch the best game of year lists ultimately.
Thanks for sharing your input! Really helpful for making these types of video in the future.
Really enjoyed the video! My number#1 board game that I played in 2024 is Hegemony. I believe everyone who likes medium to heavy games should try it at least once. Hegemony is a milestone game that shows how much board games have evolved
Would love to play Hegemony, I think it would be our kind of thing. Was hoping to get a review copy but it didn't materialise.
My game of the year is A gest of Robin Hood - 2-player head to head and very cutthroat but with (for me) a richer theme than Ironwood, and a much prettier board. Definitely share the Arcs love but it's hard to get the campaign to the table.Condolences for Gran as well
Thanks for sharing! That Arcs Campaign is a beast...
Love the video! Those sweaters are spectacular too!!
Plenty more where that came from! Cheers!
Agreed, your holiday jumpers are rad! Well played, @BoardOfItReviews. ❄☃
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hoping Andromeda's Edge/Arcs make it up the list. Curious if Fractured Sky, Ironwood, and Rebirth make the cut. Hitting play now!
Honestly, most of those we haven't played, but the ones we have...
Fractured Sky is such a dud. Arcs however oh my!
Obly problem with root is you need to buy another expansion to do a two player
At least one. That said, not everything needs to suit everyone, so can't hold it against it as a problem.
What a brilliant, clear, and helpful video! Thank you both very much (and the doggies)!
Cheers!
Please consider more b roll and close up angles of the boards, it's very hard to see otherwise and i understand wide angle is less of a hassle but it'd a lot of value
Don’t think you’ll do a full review video on galactic renissaince? Or an Inis/galactic comparison?
The too many different directions thing + the Star Wars IP restrictions is why I took a pass on buying this game. I’d happily play it, and will probably pick up a copy used, just because I do love me some Star Wars… Thanks for the review. The action system stuff was new to me and particularly interesting.
For those interested, Unexpected Games offers free, fully-cooperative versions of the hidden motive mercenary missions on their website.
I still have my original Thunder Road from 1987, and it is still fun to play, if a little random and simplistic. The retooled version, Thunder Road: Vendetta, is a fantastic modern update which incorporates many improvements that hobby gamers will appreciate, including more meaningful player choices, randomness mitigation, and downtime reduction. I enjoyed it so much that I gave my retail version base game to my son and got the all-in Maximum Chrome edition with the new Carnival of Chaos expansion, and the amount of added content is amazing, without adding too much complexity. You get motorcycles, a Big Rig, additional track boards with new terrain and hazards like Fire and ramps, unique player abilities, and a whole dueling Arena which introduces a brand new style of gameplay, plus a ton of other stuff that can be used to add variety to the experience. If you enjoy this type of game, you will not regret splurging a bit on the fully expanded version. It’s awesome.
This looks like a paid ad. Looks like empty boxes or you couldn't be bothered opening them.?? Just two big boxes ..right ..up front.
I wish this was a paid ad. That would be great. Sadly, we've never been paid for anything. Anyway, the reason there is no B-roll is because this was at the time a new format we tried out, and we had no idea if anyone would even watch it, so we didn't spend the extra couple of hours setting up, filming and packing away both games, every expansion, etc...but unfortunately this became I think our most viewed video, so that teaches us. Big regret, but we do have tons of B-roll in pretty much anything we put out.
I was able to get a copy and plan to play with my wife. I can be ruthless in games, so how vindictive and sinister can I get? Also, any tips on how to get back in her good graces after I win? 😂
Tbf, while the game will have you flip the table, it's never really unnecessary cruelness because they are directly in your way or have what you want, so I think there is an element of "I hate you, but I understand".
@@BoardOfItReviews "I hate you, but I understand." The mark of a great relationship. 😅 I'll let you know how it goes. Cheers.
Out of curiosity, have yall played War of the Ring (2e)? Obviously much heavier, but I find that hard to top in 1v1 play.
We have! I think we need to give it another go, but both of us never quite got on with it. It always felt like it was missing something, and I'm a big LOTR fan, so that was strange. We much preferred SW Rebellion.
Dont see it as you, in dune uprising we had also very close winings. Never more then 2 points winner.
my favorite game of all time
11:08 YAAAAASSSS! I think you two are the first ones that I've heard say this about Radlands. I completely agree and I don't know why it's never even a point of consideration with those that have played it!
This seems to be a very popular take!
You expressed very well what I dislike in Radlands. This convinced me to give this a shot because I hated how limiting and reactive Radlands was.
Just note that this is still reactive! Often you'll have a plan and then you have to react to what the other player does, but as we said it is much less frustrating- probably because the whole point isn't combat like Radlands
Such a great game. Interesting you thought Radlands I was thinking Root lite. I love that I can get this to the table easily. My wife won our first game as I spent too much time teaching and no time playing. Cannot wait to play again. Great review!!!!!!
Thank you! Tbf, that's an accurate comparison! I think Root is more of a slow burn where it's usually a while before your opponent is directly annoying you, but here it's almost like that from the get go!
Yeah, your comparison made way more sense! 😂
I'm very excited for Ironwood!! Root is my favorite game (yay asymmetry!!), and I love Radlands too. Just got the notice yesterday that my pre-order is shipping soon.
Then I would be very surprised if you didn't love this!
This review seals the deal! Thanks for sharing your opinions. Goodbye Radlands, hello Ironwood :)
You are most welcome.
Thx. My top 3 games. And all factions are interesting - replayable
Thank you!
My copy of Voidfall comes Monday. Are the minis or deluxe pieces worth itV
Eh, I mean they look nice, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them. But we also aren't really mini's people.
@ I passed on them but did go for the triple layer boards. Do you like the uogrades resources pieces?
I think the reason they set it during 3 was for several reasons. 1: It makes the most sense given the two hostile factions. 2: :Both Liara and Wrex were off doing their own thing in 2, and while Wrex isn't a regular squad mate in 3 there is a period he is part of the squad so slipping this in right after that, before he leaves, is possible.
Technically in 2 you had the Collectors and all the gangs, so you could have had at minimum 2 or at most 4 if you differentiate the gangs. Personal thing too but I think the Collectors were also a more interesting enemy than the reapers ground fodder. Your other point I can't argue against though!
👍🇵🇱
You should create a second list with most played games time wise! I feel playing time is more important than plays! Top 3 most plays: 1. Spirit Island 2. Cartographers 3. Familiar Tales - Kingdomino - Santorini (unexpected tie) Top 3 most playing time 1. Spirit Island 2. Ark Nova 3. Dune Imperium
I believe we may well do that after all the requests!!
So many great economic euros, but no Splotter or 18xx... inconceivable! I think you'd love The Great Zimbabwe and Shikoku 1889.
I've really wanted to try The Great Zimbabwe for a while!
Root is definitely one of my top 10 games. The funny thing is, it was my wife that saw it and thought it would be a lot of fun to play, but after the first time we played, she discovered she did not like asymmetric games. I’m so glad you found a group of players to play that with. I have a few select friends that enjoy it but getting them all together at the same time is difficult. It may be time from me to try this game with my wife again and see if I can convince her to appreciate how wondering this game really is. Thanks for another wonderful video!
Hope you get to play!
