That's not a drum solo.. that was an artistic journey.. Just beautiful
Great statementJohn.
That snare!!!! In your face pop. One of the best sounding live snares I've heard.
What a great foh engineer can do
@@CatabductionsAnoym i think it's his own signature Gretsch brass snare
@@nohaste4me this was way before keith had his own snare, that was when he switched to gretsch
It’s really cool when you see an old friend playing with John Mayer. Even more cool when you have watched Keith from the very beginning of his adult life playing in clubs in Texas in the 90’s and then playing with Steely Dan onto Sting and then John Mayer. Keith is a world class drummer and has covered a lot of ground. It is also great that John gave Keith the freedom to play his own style on these tours and always stuck to the musical integrity of John’s material. Keith is great and so glad that he achieved this level of recognition. Keith has marked an epoch in drumming history. Go Keith! See ya!
That's awesome you saw Carlock play way back in the 90s. I think it's so interesting that according to Carlock he went to NYC and kept bugging Wayne Krantz to play music and start a band. And then he eventually became Krantzs main drummer. Carlock is a living legend, this solo here is a perfect example of why
Awesome
Full send!
Keith is definitely smokin here.
Damn right ! Damn Damn Damn
He played my drums at a small club in Ashland Oregon. He set up the toms high and level on my vintage 1960's Ludwig set. He played the crap out of them that night. About 10 people at the bar. That was about two years before he became well known.
Damn!!!!
My favorite drummer. Keith is just fantastic.
Keith stole the show.
I had the honor of playing with Keith in a NYC-based Stevie Wonder tribute band called Innervisions in the early 2000’s. At one of our rehearsals, he counted off “Superstition” and killed the intro groove so bad that the entire band started laughing. We never heard 2 & 4 sound so good. It was like playing over a cloud. Unreal.
Holy shit.
Gorgeous drumming - love Keith!!!
Man oH MAN !! The dude just ate that set. Had it for breakfast. The solo brief as it is, is definitely one for the records. Beast !!
Probably for lunch and dinner as well.
This man is a legend for a reason
What was he doing right at the end, with his left hand? Maybe starting a click track for the next song ?
People in the crowd (and some commenting here too) probably largely don't know just what drum greatness they are witnessing with Keith Carlock.
love it!!
I love how the bass player just like FREAKS out at like 1:32. That snare/bass Carlock/Guiliana stuff.
Saw this show, truly a great show!
Keith is one of the Greatest and unrated Drummers in the business ! Pure Excellence !
i wonder if the crowd are aware of what they just witnessed.
nope. they like what John Mayer likes..
Hodnisguitar that comment is GOLD.
+Wesley Ritenour haha hell yeah. keith carlock is HOLY. drumming crusade. but no violence, just danky dexterous groove
No I Guess not. They like whatever is at top 10
Man that snare sound alone...

I ve seen many, but very little drummer can "touch" people, this one can. True genius
Yep, He is incredibly Strong.
This guy is fuckin awesome. I love his groove.
Thanks!!!
The new TOTO drummer.
He will be playing on TOTO's new album as well on the upcoming TOTo world tour
That's how it's done. Keith Carlock, legend.
Monster!! Amazing player

FLAWLESS
Good Lord man! The guy is a BEAST on that kit!
Groove level: monster.

그루브 미쳤네 우와
No words! Man!
Keith Carlock has become one of my favorite drummers.
Ditto
seriously cannot believe or understand what im watching! Amazing.
Huge Inspiration...
The Master at work! Crazy Snare Work for Sure!
Say what you want, I just love the way John Mayer don't fuck around when it comes to hiring drummers, Carlock, J.J., Jordan, it speaks to his love for music for sure.
What the FUCK is Carlock doing playing with these guys? Making a lot of money no doubt.
Keith has been the Steely Dan drummer for many many years now …. Well over 20 years. He’s amazing.
These “groove” solos are so much more impressive, in my opinion, than just showing off your chops. Gadd would be proud.
this solo is choppy af bro, doesn't mean its bad either. It's not about how choppy it is, its about keith just knows how to craft an entertaining solo that an audience can follow and enjoy.
Keith is so rad.
2:15 : WHACK ! Best rimshot ever played
One part Bill Stewart. One part Dennis Chambers. One part Keith Moon.
I remember when John Mayer first appeared ..... What a goof now! Having Keith is a no brainer lol He is great period...
lit isn't even close.
i saw steve jordan... maann.. u r badaassss !!!
Making the rest of the band stop playing and stand there in awe! grooving and killing that solo!
that was sick.
What a hero.
I saw Keith play at a Steely Dan concert. Best drummer I've ever heard. period.
That kit sounds amazing .... have no idea how he plays gretch now
damn!he knows how to make a solo the crowd likes.whoo!!!!
One of the many things I'll give to John Mayer, he's tricking girls into listening to great musicians! It's not often you hear girls scream during a drum solo!
I wish they would STFU to be honest
Much less a Keith Carlock drum solo...lol.
Can people stop putting all girls into the dumb category, can't appreciate music without saying this huh?
Keith Carlock rocks! Check him out along with Nathan East on bass in Toto live in Japan 2014.
He is a phenomal player with a truly uniqe style and sound.
So many comments are usually lame, This is right on!
Beast mode: Activated!
1:51 that's got to be the coolest way I've seen him use that lick.
Former drumline drummers do tend to kick ass. Gotta love trad grip too.
02:44 - someone sample this beat please. Its so beautiful
IF it was a board mix that would be scary huh.
That snare sound though...
@protorobsmos -Keith went on an exercise and diet regimen in the winter of 09. Lost about 60 to 70 lbs. Good for Keith.
Nothing like some nice stadium verb
O-M-G. Bam!
Solo really starts at 0:58
Insta chops sent me here
+ace wolf same here
+ace wolf We're 3 now haha
WOW
KC, you look great man.
2:14 What a Rimshot!
👍Sweeeeet!
1:18...as a drummer... RESPECT how absolutely smooth that man is.... Tony Royster jr.; Phil collins; Stewart Copeland; Vinnie Calaiuta: names that struck my memory when I was trying to figure out why what this guy just did sounded so important. If you know, you know. Those hits are so god damn smooth and even-keeled. his sense of pregression is well timed; set mastery is on point.... fuck me, what a beast of a drummer that I've never even heard of.
cocaine is a hell of a drug
@renttuk oh cool I bet it sounds great, cheers for the info! And yeh I love Keiths technique, he has incredible chops too.
i love how all the dudes applaud after Keith's solo and then when John Mayer gets back in the picture all the girls start to scream. haha
Haha i mostly hear a lot of girls cheering for him before during and after he's amazing solos haha
Keith Carlock fuckin ' COOL drummer 😂👍
I like KC; the man has talent/////
@pulsingdrums
Goddamn!
That made my day, that was so nasty!
check RUclips interviews - he says that he started running and cutting out carbs/sugars. I imagine drumming helps too, but you have to eat right.
the drummer in me only saw J___ Mayer and Keith Carlock and my brain went " Oh shit! Jojo and Keith teamed up" and i shit my pants... only to be half let down that its just a solo by Keith, which i still enjoyed thoroughly.
Say what you want but as a musician John Mayer is a damn good musician. I’m sick of all the “he’s popular so he’s bad” crap.
Just saw him with Steely Dan this weekend and he didn't look this fit. LOL
HOLY FUCK! GO KEITH!!! =D
its basically a subwoofer that deepens the bottom end of your bass drum
Jeez!
If I were to hit a rimshot that hard while in Traditional Grip, I would break my fuckin' hand.
that breakdown was so sick..shit keith..
0:50
Holy fuck he's lost a lot of weight
does anyone know what drum mics those are?
@drummakid101 Nasty is exactly the word, man ! :-)
@kevnak717 Steve Jordan = Keith Carlock.
Two totally different things - both totally bad ass.
Two bad ass groovers.
what's with this weird stage banter in the beginning? I understand you get great weed if you're john mayer but jesus...that was just awkward nonsense
Sounded OK to me.
anyone know what that small little drum is on the front of the bass drum? I saw Tailer Hawkings with one too :/
It’s a Yamaha sub kick microphone. It’s an Ns 10 woofer speaker wired in reverse to pick up low frequencies from the front head. They did this back in the day in studios by mounting the speaker to a milk crate or something similar. Yamaha refined and mounted it in a 10 snare shell for ease of positioning. Also works good on bass cabinets.
At his tour stop in Wellington NZ (this same tour) Keith did his solo out of Gravity. Never heard a more soulful solo especially as the outro for Gravity. John sucked in Wellington, But Keith and Robbie Macintosh were life changing.
If you fast forward the beginning in 5 to 10 second increments its just John beebopping and doing weird shit
KEITH IS A BAD BOY! WHAT'S UP WITH THE THUMBS DOWN ?
@ChrisBakerDrummer For sure man. I was in no way trying to knock Keith, and when I reread my comment, it kinda sounded that way... but I've seen a few more videos of John with Keith on drums, and he's definitely a chops monster... I'm starting to like him...
reminds me of rufus jones
