The atmosphere in the Bates family is so much more pure than the Duggar's. The love in their family is true. The Duggar's were "off", even before all the publicity about Josh, the discencion in the family, etc. Jim Bob is just creepy to me.

I sure do miss the Bates series !!! My sister and I have watched them grow up over the years. We came from a large family and are very close so we can relate but our family are by far not as big as the Bates family. I sure hope some other TV channel will pick them up because they deserve to be on the air !!! Many times they were such an encouragement to me when life seemed rough at time, I could watch The Bates Family series and feel so much better - it is one of the most uplifting shows I watch and I was very disappointed when UP TV did not renew their contract. I really didn't think UP TV would ever take that show off TV, it's encouragement to those who loved them and watched the show every week took a piece of enjoyment from many fans of the Bates Family !!!! I sure hope and pray they will soon return to TV again !!! 😔

the Bates are by far the happier family. rather than enforcing rigid rules, they invite their children into fellowship with Christ and their faith, and strongly encourage courtship. they don't force their daughters to be submissive, unlike the claims made in the video (otherwise Erin, Carlin, and Whitney would've never been permitted to own their own business) but rather encourage femininity, which does not equate submissiveness (this is where most people misunderstand conservatives). But the Duggars are just awful, the women of the family are forced into submission. And dominance, rather than a healthy masculinity, is grown within the men (hence the Duggar scandal)
One thing I love is the Bates encourage education and entrepreneurship, especially for their daughters. Unlike the Duggars, the Bates daughters have gone to college, become nurses, teachers, real estate agents, and opened their own successful businesses (Bates Sisters Boutique, Effortless Beauty, etc.) ❤️ Sure they often marry quite young, but they’re encouraged to balance family life, education and work rather than just stay at home.
Plus, has anyone noticed that the Bates kids (especially the daughters) seem a lot more genuinely happy in their marriages than the Duggars?? Just an observation lol 💕

Can't compare because I stopped watching the Duggars after the Josh scandal. But I'm glad to see the Bates girls getting an education, jobs, etc.
Not one single Bates child has graduated from an university. The ones that went to a college went to a Bible college and left with a certificate. No one is a nurse, she works in a nursing home. Tori got a bachelor of Bible degree. And you know not a single one of those young women (who were taught by Gil that they are subservient to men) are going to “balance” work and family once they’re spitting out babies. So quit lying.
I can’t go along with the IBLP in either the Duggar or Bates family. There is a huge difference between the two. College education and a higher IQ along with musical talent in the Bates family. Relaxed dating practices. Encouraging children to pursue their interests. These are all threats to Jim Bob. I also sense an authenticity in the Bates marriage and child rearing that is not present in the Duggar family.
I am more a fan of the Bates they are not as rigid compared to the Duggers. UPTV made a huge mistake by ending the series.
There is NO comparison between the Bates and Duggar’s other than 19 kids. Kelly and Gil are very loving parents. Jim Bob is a control freak and Michelle meekly follows.

I've met both families personally (at the same time) when they came for a week-long seminar. After watching each family very closely, I concur with the large majority of the comments that the Bates family is genuine. It was clearly obvious after a day or two that they're down-to-earth good people.

I love watching The Bates on tv!! They live not to far from where I used to live. I’ve always hoped they were the same off camera as they were on camera.

I've also attended their church and gone to their house for lunch after (common for friends of their kids - when Josie was working at a local salon, she was my stylist) and they are very very genuine. Kelly took time to talk to me about motherhood, and encourage me, and the same from Gil to my husband.

Key difference between Bates and Duggars. Education. Gil and Kelly are College grads. I cant imagine the Duggars got anywhere past high school. The Duggars seem to fear education, most especially for their daughters.

Jim Bob and Michelle both got their real estate license. So they did do that.

Linda Koch.....They can be around the Duggar's all day everyday, they will remain who they are humble, grounded, blessed and thankful. They are different. So different. I cannot put my finger on it. And I really enjoy watching them.

The difference really stands out when you watch the shows...i think the bates children are treated well an respected by their parents...i dont see any scandals brewing for this family...love them!
But, they do belong to a cult, the same as the Duggar’s, The IBL, and, yes they do have hidden secrets there not talking about here. They belong to a regular church where they try to promote there cult and, try to recruit new cult members. The homeschool plan you heard, Basic Life Principals that’s there cults homeschool plan. Check out Gil Bates recent video that’s out there where he’s one of the board members. How he preaches that the actions of a man’s sin is all a woman’s fault. Some of there older children are now, are just now starting to leave. Yeah, there’s so much there not actually telling about them.
At least Gil doesn’t seem as creepy as Jim Bob. And they encourage all their children to do something after finishing school. Start a business, go to college…something. Not just getting married and popping out as many babies as possible.

The creep that liked to fondle kids! They still believe in blanket training and using the rod. They have cameras in all of the rooms to monitor the kids! That is interesting. I had not heard that. I figured that they had left that organization some years back, but I have never heard them make a statement about it specifically. That’s good to know because I have read some pretty strange things regarding the leader of that movement. Disturbing to say the least.

@@smileonlegs1 It stands for Institute in Basic Life Principles (founded by Bill Gothard, who is no longer there) that both the Duggar’s and The Bate’s were part of at one time. Not sure if they still are. Although, the website still shows Gil Bates on the Board of Directors. So, not sure what the deal is with that. I guess it could not be updated and they haven’t removed his name. Or, Erin is grown and married and she probably chooses not to follow those principles now and her parents still do. That is very likely.
I think Carlin dated one of the Duggars, thank God that didn't work out. Imagine Jim Bob crushing that beautiful fun spirit of hers. She got the perfect husband, one of my favorite couple.

I have watched both families, and after three seasons stopped watching the Duggar’s. They are phoney to say the least. I found Kelley Jo and Gil by mistake and I love this family!!!! They are real, and they allow their children to make mistakes. I remember when the youngest boy set the house on fire, and how Gil sat him down and let him tell them what he was thinking when it happened, and then they carefully explained to him what could have happened in his age level. Their family adventure to The Arc Encounter inspired me to go there myself. It was breathtaking!!!! I love this family!!!!

It is truly shocking to me the number of 'educated' people commenting in this thread, making cruel and critical statements of these families. Education is supposed to expand your knowledge... well, then learn to accept that people choose different lifestyles and priorities.
I recommend that those educated people not 'waste' their education spending it in front of their tv. Unless, they're trying to learn how to save the world, then maybe go ahead and tune in to these loving parents who are working so hard to raise good people.

Yes, I disagree they belong to the same cult and Gil is on the board. They just aren’t really exposing there ugly secrets, and so, there just as guilty as the Duggar’s. A recent video was put out about how Gil Bates addresses the IBL and how he talks about and pretty much bad mouths a women up one side and down the other. You watch that, then, come back and, say, how Gil and the whole Bates family is such a nice family.

Bates fan all the way. Such a kind, loving , genuine family. They have morals, but are not forcing their children to be something they are not. Nothing against Janna Duggar, and I wish her the best, but Lawson has found himself a beautiful young lady he's been dating and hoping for a Lawson wedding soon. As for the rules. just posted this week on her family RUclips channel, Alysa and her husband did kiss before marriage; as that would be a HUGE NO NO with the Duggar's. I think at this point, the chance of a Duggar/Bates couple isn't very likely considering it seems the older adult children have the bonded friendships with each other, most married on either side and the younger ones probably do not have that type of friendship bond with the other family as the older kids did. I'm sure there is some added distance between these two family's at this time.

Say what you want to say about them, we will all one day give our personal account before God. Please, the only thing the Bates and Duggars have in common are the 19 kids. The Bates' kids, boys and girls, all are encouraged to have a profession. The married girls are respected by their husbands who are the head of their household. Unlike Jim Bob who controls his kids, even after marriage, except Jinger, and now Jill. The Bates' women wear beautiful clothes, beautiful hair styles and beautiful makeup. They make tasty looking meals unlike the slop in Michelle's kitchen. Not to mention most of the Bates' couples all sing or play an instrument, some as their profession. In conclusion, Bates and Duggars, NO comparison.

I really like the Bates as they seem very real. I’m not into gender roles. My boys perform any chore that any”housewife” would do. Children of both genders need to be self-sufficient. The Nates children seem much happier and well adjusted to regular adult life. The Duggar’s live off daddy and are under his rules......except Josh. We all know what he’s about and it has disgusted me. I’m all for fair trials and justice so I’ll wait for the legal system to straighten this out. My gut tells me once SA always a SA. I pray he’s left his children and little sister’s alone. I feel so bad for the innocent children and the now grown sisters and babysitter from his first KNOWN offenses.

We have watched both series and I much prefer the Bates. Gil and Kelly really are the ideal parents. The Duggars are too wacky for me.
Actually if Kelly Joe did not have any miscarriages they would have had the same amount of pregnancies. Michelle had two miscarriages one right after Josh, and another one she lost at 20-weeks gestation after her youngest
Kelly has had miscarriage not sure how many but sge did talk about in one of the show.

Taught that a woman or little girl who are raped or molested need to look at their role in causing this to happen?? Taught that women are ALL born temptresses and hold responsibility for seducing the man that sexually assaulted them? That a woman has to make sure she stays (“fit”) thin so she will always be appealing to her husband! 🙄 Not only is that complete and utter crap, it’s also HIGHLY dangerous to the women and children in this cult!! Men control everyone and everything in this world and women are given no power over their own lives!! A man owns all of his daughters until they get married in which time her husband then owns her! My concern about the Bates children’s education is that they cannot get any pronouns right. I cringe when I hear them speak, not because of their accents, but all the grammatical errors. Things like “him and me” instead of he and I. That’s basic third grade schooling.
They all work vs the Duggars. We are all not privileged to perfect grammar.
My only concern about their grammar is that Kelly Jo has a college degree in education so as the person teaching home schooling, she should know better!
@@joanngast7430 with 19 children I'd seriously question the quality of the learning time. What are the under 5's doing while you are 'teaching'. As a teacher I've taught kids from very large families. The oldest ones were hugely resentful about being constantly used as free childcare when they had homework to do.
I think it is more of a colloquial reason as to why they do that. Some of them do and others don’t so I think it isn’t an education issue more of a habit or choice.
No one in the south says, "so & so & I." What makes me cringe is when someone says, "we was" instead of "we were." I haven't heard any of the Bates do that!

I am a firm believer in adoption. Why add to the population problem when there are hundreds of thousands of wonderful kids living in a broken foster care system? Many of these kids end up in jail or with abandonment issues. SAVE a life!!!! Don’t add to the problem. It’s more humane.

I saw the video of Gil Bates advising young men not to marry a woman who would not obey. What kind of BS is that? Also saw where he advised women to not gain weight and always be available to their husband. He's not as creepy and money-hungry as Jim Boob Duggar but he still thinks women are second class citizens who belong to their husbands.

You must have nothing to do but really talk about people. These people go through the same struggles as we do. So what if they raised they children different and believe in God you say doesn't exist or you choose not to believe. FOR THE RECORD GOD DOES EXSIST AND HE IS REAL!! So what if they dress different or do things differently then we do? Gossiping about people is so wrong becuz it breaks families up. If you are that bored with your own life than u have to gossip about what they do different than you need to check yourself and your life. These people that you talk about jst to get a story is plain wrong. These people are people living differently with feelings and raising there children with rules. So what? We are all different and we all do things different eat different and dress different. So what!! It's sad that it bothers you to gossip about what they do different. Wen we come into this world we start to learn and if we are wise we listen and learn and do until God calls us home. Stop looking at the mistakes they make and look at the positive there family's have and that's being there and loving each other. People are dying everyday and it's becoming so numb and comfortable that we are no concern about where there souls are going. Just waking up in the morning realizing that your still here is a big blessing from God. No one knows what tomorrow brings or if we will see it. Living for the day is to be well cherished protected and live one day at a time. People always hurt people no matter how differently you live or how much money you have. You want hatred to keep living and grow. You keep letting SIN get stronger and your letting it grow by keeping it on life support and you won't let it die with in yourself. Stop giving it CPR, stop trying to keep it alive. If you don't want it to come back to life to destroy you're life and the people that you love. It must be destroyed within yourself. Jesus never said He hated people, he said He hates the sin that's destroyed so many. Jesus came to die for us so we would live. We need to do are part by letting Jesus kill the sin with in us. He didn't say to KEEP it in the ICU ON LIFE SUPPORT. HE SAID WE MUST DIE DAILY OF THIS SIN THAT WE have inside us. JESUS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN KILL AND DESTROY IT AND MAKE SURE IT WON'T COME BACK. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO KEEP SIN ON LIFE SUPPORT WHEN IT'S KILLING YOU AND TAKING YOUR LIFE AND EATS YOU FROM THE INSIDE. WHEN WE DON'T LET SIN DIE IT RESTS FOR A WHILE AND IT GETS STRONGER AND BIGGER UNTIL IT WILL TAKE YOUR LIFE. THINK ABOUT THE NEXT PERSON AND HOW YOU MIGHT BE THE ONE TO HURT AND DESTROY. LET JESUS GIVE YOU THE BIGGEST BLESSING THE WORLD WILL NO EVER GIVE YOU, Which is LIFE.

Bates family is down to earth they are nothing like the Duggers. And I do not know why the UP channel Took them off the air that was wrong because they are a good family I’d rather watch them every single night then any other channel but I will not watch that up channel no more for what they doing to the Bates and I hope Gil And Kelly Joe find another channel because we miss him so much I don’t give a rats butt about the Duggers I want the bait to come back to TV there’s a lot of people out there in this world that loves this precious family I missed the show dearly

the Bates have a tree cutting business, which is a very dangerous job and pays well. and the kids who live at home probably contribute some of their earnings from their jobs to the household
They couldn’t lol, the ER was the extent of medical care for the children. They were very poor but I believe are doing better since Gil has been on the IBLP board and older ones have left the nest.
