I just gotta say that your videos were a real eye-opener when it comes to seeing a connection between counterpoint and harmony.
Thanks to your work I developed a realistic approach for writing more monophonic textures but with each 'voice" making sense. I would always struggle with the idea that somebody could write a sax soli with each line making sense harmonically and melodically at the same time; I could only do either one (I guess that's one of the drawbacks of species counterpoint approach). To think that the solution was to consider how important/audible each voice is and write in that order. I probably would've never figured that out on my own or it would take me a lot of time.
Now I developed it even further - I write songs in this order: melody, bass line, countermelody, top voice of the chord progression, bottom voice of the chord progression, middle voices of the chord progression. Obviously, I switch some of these one place to the left or right but this is the general idea.
Again, thank you for your amazing work.

Wow, thank you very much for your comment. I'm so happy to be able to have helped you. I didn't know if viewers would enjoy such a long and detailed video. I love doing this stuff, going back and forth over different voice leading possibilities. I find it creative and enjoyable. If there is anything else in particular you'd like to see on the channel let me know.

@@lfsdhnfjlsdbkgjsbk awesome. I was thinking about doing a poll about what tune I should work on next. Let me know here, or look out for the poll.

Just brilliant! I can't wait for writing my next big band sax soli now! The concept of writing the bass line first and selecting a few key moments where to mark the specific target chords makes so much sense... you can come up with incredible solutions! I normally stick more or less around the chord tones of the given chord and sort of use the rest with harmonic devices that bring me back into it, but this is so much more powerful!

Oh another comment! :D Keep them coming. Excellent. Yep, Rule 1: Write the bassline first!
