Love the 1x1 series! Fast and rewarding. Love to see the dowel series into 1x1. Thanks Doug.
I really like the 1x1 series. Redue the dowel series to 1x1 series. Thanks Doug 48:56
I'd like to see videos for the 1 x1 series on new animals or things you haven't already made a video for, like; skunk, raccoon, squirrel, chipmunk, cat, dog, pig, ......anything new, little people, doctor, nurse, policeman, etc.......I've watched and have carve most of your video including the 1 inch dowels videos. I'd like something new. Thanks for your hard work in creating these video, I have learnt a lot by watching them.
YES, please do the dowel series in 1x1! Really enjoy your videos. Easy to listen to and follow. Thank you.
Doug, your carving is awesome,it would be cool if you did a picture book with all of your carving projects in it someday.
I’d buy it.
Me too
Me three.
Definitely.
Me, Four
I will start with saying thank you for the videos! Thanks to your videos I decided to try. Not very long time ago.
It was a rough period of my life. The war back home, some personal things and I am soon to be 40 (so maybe a little middle age crisis is present as well :) )
Anyways, I decided to try. Bought the cheapest starter kit I could find on the web. And things just clicked.
Not only I have a hobby now. I discovered sides of myself that I never thought even existed.
Carving is also a very good stress reliever for me.
Thank you! Thank you for all you do! It does make a difference. I know, because my life changed because of it.
I’m invigorated by you’re enthusiasm!!! You’re truly enjoying our hobby!!! I’m OK with revisiting the dowel carvings with 1X1” !! Whatever you enjoy I know I’ll enjoy Doug!! I’m 75 and appreciate you being in my life. I enjoy, “Keeping it simple”!!
I love that! “That’s just me being cocky with my measurements!” You nailed it Doug!!!
Yes. I would really like to see you redo the cardinal one for sure! Thanks for putting in all the time you do to put out these videos. Most of us have no clue what it takes to do a quality video like you do. I can only imagine.
I agree, but please slow down and explain how to get the head and the body to blend together. The turned head looks s trickier than it looks.
I'll watch and carve along with just about whatever you carve. I like the idea of various examples of cats and dogs. Dowel to 1x1 is a great idea too. Thanks for making this channel, I thought I had no talent/eye for carving but after I made several of your gnome doors I realized I can do this. Now I have done several gnomes, hillbillies, bears and books. I just love this.
Love the 1 x1 series too. Please Please keep doing them. Thank you.
Doug, this was a great video, perfect for a rainy Saturday afternoon!!
Anything you do is great. I love the more realistic eyes than the cartoon eyes, like you did the past. Thank you so much Doug for sharing you skill with us. Thank you!
Hello, I hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness, prosperity, and love all over the world, I would love 💚us to be good friends in honesty and in trust if you don't mind. I'm Doctor Christopher Johnson from San Francisco, California, where are you from if I may ask?
Hi Doug! Thanks for all the valuable lessons you give to all of us newbie’s. I have followed you now going on 3 years and with each new carving I feel a little more confident in my own abilities. I would welcome a remake of the cardinal in your new 1x1 series. I carved one with the dowel and got a lot of compliments. Thanks again, be safe and God Bless.
These are great. I’ve been teaching my Grandson from your videos. He and I watch them together and “Carve along with Doug”. Remaking some of the dowel videos would be good, but please add new things also. I usually make a few versions of the carve, following along closely the first time and then add variations as they occur to me. Now I need to make some shelving for displaying my work. All the counter tops are getting crowded. Thank you for the inspiration. I’m 78 and this is keeping me engaged. I’ve given many of my pieces away and they are always appreciated. Bob in NC.
Great Video. Thanks for sharing. I think the one by one series is perfect for anyone that wants to have fun with woodcarving.

This so made my day, I have a friend that collects beavers (please no bad comments) and now I can carve one for that friend.
These smaller carvings remind me of the small ceramic animals that came in the tea boxes. Love this video, always great to watch. Thank you for the time you are putting in to make the videos and the carvings.
You make the cutest carvings! I wasn't even searching for woodcarving and there you were. I must add this to my arts and crafts skills! Thanks!
Loving the 1x1 series, please don't ever stop!
YES for redoing the dowels videos with the 1x1" series. Thanks Doug 👍

Thanks again Doug. I love your detailed way of showing how you carve each piece, especially where you use lines to divide up the various parts of the piece. This helps to take the mystery out of how to approach figures. The whimsical aspect is great. Each piece brings a smile to the face of anyone with a soul. I now carve and paint with a confidence I never could before.
Please do episodes of dowel carvings using the 1x1 pieces. This is good not only because we can then use the proportions to carve the same pieces in larger squares but also after making a small 1x1 piece we have an example of a finished piece to reference while carving a larger version. It's also a great way to carve something when you have just a short amount of time and want to do a complete carving.
I love your conversational style of instruction. It would be great to sit around a campfire with you. I spent a great deal of time paddling the interior of Algonquin during my time living in Southern Ontario and your creatures bring alive how I felt about my wildlife critters that were my neighbors in the bush. How about doing a wolf and perhaps an otter?
Great video as usual......One thing I particularly likes is when the eye chipped out on you and how you were able to fix it.....another tool in my bag!!
Enjoying the 1x1 series.!
Yes! I love the 1x1 series please expand upon it
Doug, I love how you did not panic when the eye broke out. It is good to see how to just keep carving and fix the problems that will eventually come along. Thank you for the great intro and all of your hard work.

I love the 1x1 videos!
As someone who always wanted to try carving but didn't know where to start, I love your videos. They helped me realize I could do this. I am loving this 1x1 series. It's going to really boost my confidence as a beginner.
Hi Doug from uk. Love your carving Im just starting at 63. Cheers.
Hello Doug like the 🦫 beaver carving you do good work Thanks enjoying watching your video Thanks 😊
Always the best! Thanks Doug! I'm all in favor of more of the dowel series.
God day Doug, you’ve inspired me to go back on Simplicity . . . being remembered just like that Simple for life gets cluttered when we are not careful. I’m new in carving and I’m doing cavings of small animals for my granddaughter. I tell her stories about it to share to her lasting values of virtues and she likes it. Please continue on the 1x1 basswood projects I will follow your videos. Thank you so much for your video series on the 1x1. Blessings to you from the Philippines.
Love the 1x1’s , shelves are getting full. These can go anywhere!
Thanks for doing all the 1x1 carvings. They don't take long to do, and it's the size "lumber" I have the most right now. All your tutorials are awesome, Doug.
Doug, great timing. Rain starts here on the east coast in 4hrs and I'll be carving a beaver. Enjoyed the intro video. Tnx's for braving the weather.
They’re so very nice Doug and thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯

Thank you for the videos and the lessons.
I'm loving this new found hobby.

Another winner! How about a 1x1 Linker man? And yes to the dowel remakes. As usual, very entertaining and informative Doug. I admire you. (In a manly way) 😂
Brilliant Doug, loving the 1x1 series.
I love this series. 1X1 is much easier for my old hands to handle. I’ve been carving for about 2 years, and I still need to watch very intently. I can’t wait to get to a place where I can pick up a piece of wood, and just get it done.
Wieder ein sehr schönes Video. Bin schon gespannt wie die Reihe weiter geht.
Cardinal and or other birds too…like your owls and maybe a woodpecker. All of your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you Doug!
How fun it is! Hey Doug! Make a little fox! Pleaaase!
Thanks again for sharing Doug ! 👍🤗
Cute little beaver, would love to see a little eagle
The beaver was great, love it! How about a turtle, easy transition from the beaver. Thanks for sharing.
Redoing past carvings in a 1x1 video would be great for me and I suspect many others as well. Great job, Doug.
I for one like the idea of a redo in 1x1 basswood. These will make great give aways. Thanks for all your inspiration.
Your videos are great. They show great passion and give a lot of knowledge. The next videos will surely make everyone happy. Best regards
48:28 very happy with this series. Keep it up.
This design is so much fun to do, thank you!
Fun fun carving. I did the hillbilly, just love it. You said something so correct, carve several and it gets more fun and the carving looks better😂
Thanks, Doug, and really like the 1X1 series and would like the dowel series done as part of the 1X1 series.
Doug thank for sharing your video I’m going to try to carve the little beaver one day I watch a lot of your video’s and I like your carving keep up your carvings and I save some of your video’s for later thank you for your carving video’s

Hi Gene. I have been getting messages from this chap also and nearly every second person who has posted on Doug's site. Please be careful with personal details and don't trust strangers. This chap has not shown any indication of being interested in carving. Not everyone has a good heart like yours. Take care. X

Thanks Doug for another great video. Your 1x1 carvings are FANTASTIC.
Looking forward to more of them. 👍😎👍
Loved the beaver, well done. And I would love the 1X1 series, let's do it. Thanks Doug for another great little project.
There’s a dozen more there already -check out the playlist
So happy you are doing a 1x1 series! I think I'll have my beaver sitting on a log with the extra inch or two in my wood. I have a lot of 1x1x3 and 1x1x4 so this series is going to be great! :)
Your instruction is awesome! Thank you very much - I've carved several! Yes, please, redo some of your videos into the 1" variety.

Gonna try this project today after church. One thing I do is take a pencil and trace/outline all the features of the character. Sometimes I do this before light wash of paint, sometimes after. Gives real nice shadows and makes carving more interesting.
Love the 1x1 series!
I’m new here but just needed to say the measuring in the beginning was very impressive 😂
Love the videos, thanx for teaching me how to whittle
yes please go back! always, the more of your vids the better buddy!
Great carving thanks for sharing. Redoing the dowel carving would be a great idea
Take care

You make me home sick for rural Northern Ontario, we dont have beavers out in the pacific ocean... I love your videos I have learned so much about carving from you. In a world where everything has gone mad you bring some simple common sense into the world.
I love the 1x1 series. Please keep it going!
Just wanted to say thank you here! your videos have taken me to a new level in my carving! I used to sketch on the thing I wanted to carve.. an then try and maintain that detail as I went down into the wood? totally by passing any kind of roughing out... now I carve better! thanks. Your tutorials are awesome and have given me a lot of ideas too.. but I already have 7 on the go lol
I’m liking the 1x1 series. i like little pocket carvings and such. I’ve been doing them on business trips and I legit look forward to doing a small whittle in my hotel at night lol. I don’t think you need to redo the dowel series, but I’m sure folks will watch.
I was thinking about putting some tools in my checked bags for business trips.
Yes please do revisit the others. I’ve made small boxes in the style of Japanese tool boxes for my three grandchildren. I intend to fill those boxes with the carvings from your 1 X 1 series. Tried the little man and it is not so good. Not giving up yet. The beaver is going to be gooood!
Thanks,
Mike
Doug i love the carving been carving for about 4 years i have learned a lot thank you
Very nicely done,I have a beaver on my property, love to watch the little fella
Another fun one Doug and as you mentioned - they are addictive. I whittles my 5th gnome today at lunch waithing for a a load of wood to arrive for deck I'm building. Customers 5-yr old daughter liked it so I passed on for her to paint.
how about the Toronto wildlife - the raccoon! love critters - dogs cats, squirrels, walrus, moose, fox, maybe even a carpenter ;_)
