Whats interesting about "the entire history of Japan is that EVERYTHING is in 3/4 or 6/8 time. Which is an odd time signature for Japan because their transitional folk music like Soranbushi (sea shanty) for example, relies on a waltz 1,2,3 and tempo. Even that scale in the beginning is 3 sets of 6!

Like I said, Bill has expressed before that he doesn't like to use music theory when he writes his songs. Which to me implies that he, for the most part, just plays what sounds good to him. That doesn't make it any less purpuseful or impressive though. It requires an insane amount of practice to be able to intuitively make something that's both cohesive and interesting.

A lot of the style, as well as chords and voices Wurtz does remind me of 80's easy listening pop like Joe Jackson (like Steppin' Out) and Christopher Cross-type guys. Younger folks who haven't heard that kind of music probably wouldn't get that "kinda cheesy but oddly comforting" 80's vibe from it.
I love at 3:00 when Charles plays the F69/C he can't help but hear the chord from Bill Evans Peace Piece and plays the G down to C repeating figure from it.
What he does often is the chromatic locked chord movement but not only the melody does his own thing but also the bass. Bass is quintessential to understand Bill's musical endeavors.
I love these videos about the harmony behind Bill Wurtz' jingles/songs. But I would love to watch a video about all the sound design that's involved in these videos because it's so elaborate.
one of the great things about the last segment that you talked about was that, in contrast to the section before that, where there's all these different subjects being studied, now all of a sudden he's listing a bunch of subjects, that, because of the more cohesive nature of the chords being used, feel like they themselves are more cohesive, or culturally sophisticated, in a way. it's cool!!
Ya know, Bill Wurtz is an intentional accident by definition, so yes but an accidental note like that would probably still be amazing sounding and deserving of analysis for our benefit
