Very interesting and helpful tutorial as always! the bass tone it self sounds solid and sit very well in the mix As a Helix user, your channel means a lot for my personal modeler tone adventure I hope you'll get well soon mate, Cheers from Sulawesi Indonesia 🙏
Thank you for a bass/helix video, but there are more distortion/fuzz stomp boxes out there than any other kind. I would LOVE to see a bass/helix video about CLEAN bass models for funk, jazz, and R&B. Keep on keepin’ on. Sounds like you produce some amazing heavy jams !!!
This sounds spectacular and is going to force me to explore sculpting more of my bass tone in the helix like I try and do with my guitar tones. Thanks for the walkthrough Jon!
Get the ownhammer bass cab IRs he recommends. I have them as well and use them on my Kemper. They come out sounding GREAT, like crazy good. Ownhammer IRs are the special sauce, I found them on this channel and I've never found anything that sounds remotely close to as good.
I know it has been two years, but I really hope you can answer me anyway to this nice video :) The split before the distortion, is that an even split or do you split it as a crossover by only letting the lower frequencies through the distortion?
further suggestions for these kind of videos, a before and after demo to the end where you quickly show how the mix improves with each step. Other than that perfect stuff as always.
Best channel I've subscribed, is it possible i can buy this patch from you? for the HX stomp, then I can follow the shaping in my daw it sounds great! Thankyou
Awsome video. I really appreciate the way you teach how to reach amazing tones. This video was very useful for me because few time ago I came back to play bass and I needed some tricks to reach good tones in my demos and I didn't know much about bass tones. I hope more videos like this (and more IR's for bass). Maybe, I'd like examples of clean or warmth bass tones in the future. Greetings from Chile.
My Helix Rack is always sleeping. I really need to load some IRs into it. Its like a rabbit hole for me I spend all my time with tube heads and cabinets, mics n stuff. You really know your stuff, and your videos are amazing. You really bring it , great job on everything. Cheers from Michigan- Erin
i just got a floor helix not long ago to use with my bass rig ampeg svt7 pro and a darkglass dg410n this tutorial has been quite helpful. thanks for posting and you have another subscriber
Great video. Really helpful and clear. How did you get Helix to receive the DAW signal? I have an HX Stomp XL and would love to be able to configure my sounds this way. I use Reaper as a DAW. Thank you so much.
In this video, he's using the Helix Native plug-in. However, if you want to reamp through the HX Stomp, you'd need to use it as a USB interface. The USB Outs 5 and 6 give you a DI signal that you can record along with your amped tone. For reamping, you'd need to set your inputs on the HX Stomp to "USB 5/6".
Thanks for the video. I have been struggling with my bass tone forever :D. To my ear the distortion pedal introduced quite the compression and rounded off the high end clank.
Great video - thanks Jon. I bought that ownhammer Ampeg pack a few years ago after watching another one of your great tutorial videos: ruclips.net/video/5Vpwat3ITuw/видео.html&feature=emb_logo
I had a very bad cold when I was recording this video so apologies if my voice sounds weird. :)

That's the best sounding Stomp demo I've heard so far.

Cool vid. Tone is great. Wondering why you don't demo bass trqck with and without the IR applied?

man, that sounds incredible....

Another great and helpful video! I look forward to applying some of these techniques in my future mixes. Cheers!
Used this as a starting point and it sounds great! Thanks!!
Awesome sound! How many guitar tracks are you using? Can you please give some information about panning and if you use different helix presets?
This is awesome. My bass tracks sits in mix perfectly now :)
it sounds sooo good
I love these vids Jon!
If I buy an Helix LT used, do I have to buy the Nova Plug In for $400???
Man, these songs you're using for your videos are dope! Please tell me there's a place where I can listen to this stuff.
Right here on the channel, for now anyway.... Thanks! :)
The voicing control on an ampeg isn't really a "highest" setting just FYI. When it's on 5 you're just at voice 5. Voice 3 is flat.
halo.. external overdrive pedal is better for boosting hi gain amp better than overdrive on hx stomp?
really noob question but what split does?
What drum vst do u use in this video?
Sound sick
Steven Slate Drums 5.5
What drum VSTi are you using?
