Thank you for this list! I hadn't heard of The Princess in Black nor The Kingdom of Wrenly. I think they're right up my daughter's alley. I appreciate you Summer!!

I didn't know Dav Pilkey did dragon books! I'll have to look into those. My girls go crazy over Dog man. 😆❤️

Wow you know what? I learned so much... especially about correcting my son when he reads a word and it means the same thing! Makes so much sense! My son has been reading some of the good and the beautiful books level 1B and going into Level 2 now... he's going into the 2nd grade into the Fall.
Honestly you are so funny! I love all your videos and your personality... I probably have told you this before.. but I will say it again!! Haha great video... thanks for sharing this list!!

TGTB have so many great readers! I could spend my paycheck there and it would be worth it! 🤣
Thank you lovey! 🥰🥰 So glad I don't come across as a weirdo! Haha! 💕💕

My daughter is 7, and it has been so amazing watching her choose her own books this year and read at leisure.
    I have a curriculum problem too. 😂

Ok I need to look up the Kingdom of Wrenly!
I had so much success letting my son read a vast variety of styles during the summer and letting him choose what books he wanted to read from the library even if it was "twaddle." It got him so excited about reading and now in the school year I can direct his reading a little bit more towards literature that I would like for him to be engaged in. Right now he's reading some of The Littles and I'm going to have him continue with the Imagination Station series as well in the next week or so. The branches books are just fun books for him but I love that they have questions at the end for me to ask and make sure he understood what he read. I wish more books had the question format built in.
I'm someone who often substitute words when I'm reading and it's so interesting hearing my kids do the same thing. It is so important to let them just continue reading if the meaning is the same. Thank you for pointing that out.

I've never heard of the Branches books--just looked them up. Are they the collection from scholastic? I'm intrigued about the questions at the end. That would be so good and easy for a second graders comprehension! I see those fairly often in older middle grade, but not that often in fiction young readers.

@@SummerMeyers I have a review of our favorite branches book in my shorts. I'll link it. I didn't mention the questions though so I'll have to do that in our next branches book review... ruclips.net/user/shorts98gh7S4fy_o?feature=share

I feel like my second grader is having a hard time going to that next level of reading. He’s still not independently reading right now. He’s going through the simply Charlotte mason readers and is on the third one still. It’s like pulling teeth. We have done a ton of read aloud books his whole life. I always have and he loves them. Agh! I’m just stuck with him. :/

I hear that! The jump between reading to mom and then reading to ourselves can be rather daunting. Have you tried graphic novels? Science comics are my kids favorites. It might be a bit much for second grade but I would explore those and other graphic novels like Dogman. Dogman is definitely twaddle (😆) but sometimes a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down!

@@SummerMeyers thanks for responding!! I will definitely look into that! At this point I don’t mind some comics or whatever. I just want to find something that he loves reading so that he can beef up his skills, read smoother, and actually enjoy sitting down to read. Personally I LOVE reading and I pray all of my kids share my love of books one day!

I feel the same with my 3rd grader! He doesn’t read independently yet unless it’s very easy. Still needs my guidance 🤷‍♀️. My daughters were well beyond at this grade.
