How to Embroider Monograms on Towels with Knockdown Stitch | Avance 1501C

As you can see here we have an interesting look to our monogram.
That is because we used a knockdown stitch to create an underlay that is larger than our design that really helps our monogram POP on this fluffy towel.
Now, let’s show you how its done - let’s start with hooping.
To find the center of this towel I am going to do a little trick here where I fold the towel in half, and rub the seam.
Once I unfold the towel the center of the towel is completely visible.
The next step is to find where I want to center of my monogram to be. When doing decoration pieces like towels consistency is key. So I am going to measure 3.5 inches up from the seam here on all of my towels. And make a little spot on the towel with my finger which will signify the center of my design.
Now I am putting my hoop under my towel using the marks I made on top to get it centered. And I am using two sheets of our tear away backing.
A little thing I do to ensure I am using tear away it to just tear a little corner off to make sure.
Now I will just put that tear away backing over my hoop, and lay my towel back down on top and when I am feeling around here, you can still see hose markings I made with my finger and the hoop looks pretty centered.
Something I do to help lock my hoop in is I use my fingers to dig the top of the hoop into the crevasse of my bottom hoop. Then I use my palms to push down and you will sometimes hear it lock in a little bit. And then we are good to out this hoop on the machine.

These underlay stitches are going to sew in a criss cross pattern to matt down the towels fluffy fibers
Once the knockdown stitch is down I am going to place our Vanish topping on here and then let the rest of the monogram sew out. The Vanish topping is water soluble and will simply disappear with water!
Now some of the other features of our new avance that help us sew out this monogram perfectly our the included laser alignment system and thread break detection. This helps us to improve workflow and get through these towels more quickly.
With my sew out complete I am going to remove my hoop from the machine and work on tearing away my topping and backing.
Then I am going to remove the towel from my hoop and actually use a wet toothbrush to eliminate the tiny pieces of the vanish topping that I see poking through .
Next is to tear away our backing and I am going to do this one sheet at a time. And this tear away backing is super easy to work with and have a great flexbile feel.
And there we go! Here is our finished monogram with kockdown stitch.
