Primus hit when I was in High school, shits crazy. Nobody heard anything like then or since. Primus is literally they're own genre.

Same here and I first saw them at my first festival Woodstock '94. I was not prepared for that colossal event.
Les Claypool is a genius.
Check out "Mr Krinkle","Wynona's big brown beaver" , or "My name is Mudd" if you really want to go down that rabbit hole. The video for Mr.Krinkle is done in one long shot with no cuts. No room for error. I love slappy Bass. Flea and Geddy Lee are amazing too.

Primus is one of the weirdest bands ever, one of the few bands in which the bass is the key instrument... Les Claypool (bass & vocals) also did the 'South Park' intro theme... Maybe u should have gotten into something easier to digest from Primus 😁 - "Wynona's big brown beaver"... 'Shake hands with beef'... 'Mr. Krinkle'... 'Jerry was a race car driver'... 'Lacquer head'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Primus was formed as a trio in the 80's by Les Claypool... by 1989, the band included Larry LaLonde (guitar) and Tim 'Herb' Alexander (drums)... they were so weird that when they played local shows, people would chant - "Primus sucks!"
So, they called their first release 'Suck on this'... which was a live album in 1989... Their first studio album was 'Frizzle fry' in 1990... Then, they were signed to Interscope Records (who later signed Dr. Dre and Eminem) and released 'Sailing the seas of cheese' in 1991... 'Tommy the cat' was on this record and featured Tom Waits on vocals.
In 1993, the album 'Pork soda' became a gold record (half million copies sold) in the US w/ MTV putting Primus videos on the air... 'Tales from the Punchbowl' (1995) also sold gold.
Tim Alexander was replaced by drummer Brian 'Brain' Mantia for 'The Brown album' (1997) and 'Antipop' (1999), but both records undersold... Brain left the band by 2000 and Primus would emerge again in 2003 to tour w/ Tim Alexander (drums) returning.
Jay Lane (drums) did 1 Primus record 'Green naugahyde' in 2011 before Alexander returned once again in 2014.
I remember the first time I heard Primus, my teen son had it playing in his car, and I told him "TURN that noise down" 20 years later, a friend asked me to listen to a video with him, and it was Primus, this song, but live. I finally understood why my son played it at full volume back in the 90's. By the end of the video my friend shared, we were both up dancing! lol. I then went on a Primus binge, watching every video I could find, and got to hear bucket head as well. When I need some energy or music to make me smile, I play Primus on HIGH VOLUME, just like my son used to do. I've NEVER heard anyone play like Les, and for 3 people in the band, they are TIGHT with their instruments. Great reaction!

Dive down this rabbit hole. Some people get turned off by how weird they are, but if the musicianship draws you in, then you got to do a lot more. I'd recommend "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver" next.

Fun fact, specifically for the video and album versions of this song Tom Waits sings the Tommy the Cat part while Les only sings the intro, but Live Les sings the whole thing.
