    Fun fact: Les Claypool was buddies in high school with Kirk Hammett. When Metallica was auditioning replacements for Cliff Burton, Kirk invited his old friend Les to try out. The rest of the band was impressed with his chops, but thought he was too weird to fit in with the rest of Metallica.

    • @smward87
      @smward87 Год назад +39

      The best part was what James actually said to Les was "You're too good. You should be doing your own thing." but Les being Les, took it as them just being modest and the real reason was because he was too weird and didn't fit in, which is more likely true lol.

  • @OneThousandHomoDJs
    @OneThousandHomoDJs Год назад +19

    The claymation at the end makes more sense when you know the album title.
    When music was first available online, there were a very limited number of descriptors for genres, like Rock or Country. Eventually there was a huge variety, like Porn Groove or Acid Funk Jazz, but at the beginning, when they just didn't have enough classifications to go around, Primus were given their own genre title - Primus - nothing else fit. Jazz, Rock, Funk, etc........nope. They're just Primus.

    After seeing Primus twice in concert, I have decided that trying to follow Les Claypool's vocals is an exercise in futility. He sings so fast and low that it is too difficult to hear, so I just go with the feel and he overall sound of the song to keep up. Works for me. I'd go see them any night I could. Because Primus are a genre unto themselves, people didn't know what to make of them, so as a joke Les would introduce the band saying that they themselves sucked. On their live album, 'Suck on This' he says at the end of one of the songs, "Thanks a lot! We're Primus, and we suck!" And in the far background there's a response from the crowd, one guy yelling, "That's right; you suuuuuuuck!" Les has said he kinda regrets the Primus sucks schtick, but it's stuck with them.
    As for other bands with bassists as singers: Rush (Geddy Lee), Motorhead (Lemmy), Pink Floyd at times (Roger Waters). Just to name a few.
    Your next Primus song needs to be another one off of 'Sailing the Seas of Cheese' (arguably Primus' best album). That should be either "John the Fisherman" or "Tommy the Cat" (which features guest vocalist Tom Waits as the voice of Tommy).

    You guys always do. Rappers reacts to one song, but now that we're talking about Primus, why not do rappers react to an entire concert? The South Park Primus Ween concert to be exact.

    Pink floyd Roger Waters is lead vocalist and bassist on some songs also tom Araya from slayer ie vocalist and bassist. A lot of bassist that sing tend to be the chorus singer only/or backup. Or like the band psychonaut they are a 3 piece and the bassist and guitarist harmonise together

    Filmed at the Phoenix theater (Washington and Keller) in Petaluma, Ca. Race scenes from Petaluma Motor Speedway, Petaluma Fairgrounds. The Phoenix theater has hosted Green Day, MegaDeth, Danzig, Metallica, No Doubt, Mr. Bungle, and many others. For some reason the small NorCal town of Petaluma, Ca. loved to fuckin' rock and party. Also, there is a half pipe inside the theater, because during the day the theater serves as a youth center.

    Les Claypool played drums in a band called Electric Apricot. They made a mocumentary very similar to Spinal Tap called "Electric Apricot and the Quest for Festeroo", featuring several very popular musicians from Phish and Gov't Mule among others. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.

    You guys should check out Tommy Emmanuel. His song initiation (live from centre stage). Tommy is Australian and all self taught. He is considered one of the greatest acoustic guitarist of all time. The sounds he creates throughout this song really take you on a journey. I believe it was written about male aboriginal youth growing into manhood.
