Cam Hanes was my inspiration for getting into running. Dude is a beast, getting up there and age and still a beast. Pretty cool seeing you review these shoes, I’ve seen other people that wouldn’t have interest in anything associated with him simply because of lifestyle choice differences.
I just had my first son 1 month ago tomorrow, and when I heard him talking about how you grind and how he wants to be a boss and get up early with you and run in the rain and how he wants to do the same man did the hit my heart. I’m active duty usmc and you motivate me to get out there to accumulate some mileage. Keep doing you and I’m going to keep showing up for myself and you!
You should hit up Norda to see about reviewing their new race shoe, the 005. Another interesting one is the NNormal Kboix, which does the drop-in midsole but has three different midsole options.
I LOVE the trail content. As someone who splits between trail and road, it is beyond awesome to get my favorite youtuber gettng hype for trail and road. I have speedlands too, and I find the boa very fussy (it loosens over time) and I cannot get reasonable heel lockdown but I love the look and the vibes. Still hoping if I can get it right.... keep the fire coming on all surfaces and distances!
Wow I didn’t even know this existed. We now have the jacked-up-pickup-truck-with-spotlights of running shoes. Not for me but glad the market offers variety and innovation.
Yo, so this is how the behemoth looks like, i was hearing this episode via podcast on my run this morning and i had to use my imagination to picture this shoe LMAO awesome episode, had some laughs 😂
You may have noticed this already but if not, you can adjust the dial in both directions. If you need it slightly looser, spin it a click in the other direction and it will micro adjust without popping the dial out and starting from scratch.
Ayye Yowana curious to see your thoughts on the Mount to Coast R1 its an ultra road shoe with an emphasis on durability, hard pressed to find a review that isn’t sponsored.
This is the shoe that I really wanted to work for me. I bought the GS PGH, and only was able to do two 4 mile runs before I returned them. I agree that the grip was below average, but the real downside to me was that my lateral foot and pinky toe would go numb within first mile. It has to do with how the forward attachment point for the boa cable locks down. I tried lots of different tension options on the boa dials and cut out the parts on the insole that are designed to be cut out but it didnt work. I hope they offer a wide option and and reconfigure how the boa cables are laid out at some point!
On the Michelin outsole: FWIW Vivobarefoot has also switched all their hiking outsoles to Michelin (I believe og were Vibram). Not sure if believed better product -- or perhaps cheaper to source. I hike in Michelin-soled Vivos (including a pair of hydro shoes) and haven't had traction issues, tho.
And...I 100% relate to your point about being a more "go with the flow" over logistics type of person. even if studding acourse map would make me faster, it would take A LOT to get myself to do it. I find having a more intuitive approach raises the FUN factor for me, which I value a lot
I just ran one of our local mountain roads this morning. Here, it's either paved or hard packed and dry dirt but I did get 1,500 feet of gain in 4 miles to the top. It's nice to be out there but I'll skip the cold and wet.🥶
Your experience with the wet weather grip reminds me of when I tried taking my first running shoe that had 600ish miles on them and all of the rubber worn off out for a rainy run on a Greenway. I almost wiped out every time I hit any of the boardwalks. Pretty disappointing that the rubber on these is as bad as smooth midsole eva.
You have cushioned comfort on lock with those two so I'd go for something lower to the ground and lightweight. Something like Brooks Hyperion 2, Adidas Adizero SL2 or Nike Pegasus plus would be perfect
HTPU Foam: HTPU (High-Temperature Thermoplastic Polyurethane) foam is a type of TPU foam that is designed to withstand high temperatures. It has similar properties to TPU foam, but with improved heat resistance and durability. HTPU foam is often used in applications where high temperatures are involved, such as in some industrial or automotive applications. However, there is limited information available on HTPU foam, and it is not clear how it compares to TPU foam in terms of performance or safety.
I'd suggest making your own carbon plates, $20 for a meter of 3k and even in a camouflaged pattern to go with the shoe, enough for about 20-30 plates, $15 for some biaxial, A class resin $14 make em stiff, make em flexy, make em twisty, make em stiff flexy and twisty, make em how you like em
i wonder what, i wonder why.......the ousoles on the other two modells of Speedland, the SVT and PDX also have Michelin outsoles, but they look different, and from my perspective somewhat more trustworthy. Norda is working on their vibram outsoles with a winterized version with carbid studds ( they call it spikes, what they are not, spikes are on track shoes and are completely different.)....i got got studded shoes from Asics and from Icebug, use icebug shoes for over 20 years in the winter, running save on blank ice, neither vinram nor michelin, never ran on a wet wooden bridge, which is worse than ice my old Joe Nimble shoes ( 490 gramm) have Michelin ousoles, no problem on wet asphalt, no problem with the weight ...got a new pair on a black friday deal, called Addict pro-R ( love the name) ....vibram outsole and 390 gramm, the lighter Addict and the Trail Addict still have Michelin soles......who knows who is fighting whom
i just checked the webside, and i am kind of shocked. After decades of putting studds ( similar to the studds an trecking poles) on the outsoles of their shoes, they now also call them spikes....pfffff one huuuuge difference between the Norda studded shoes and the icebugs is the number of studds, only 10 on the Norda but 17 on the Icebug.....10 is not enough
Interesting that the SVT and PDX have different layouts - maybe I'll give one of those a try in the future. The other options you mention sound cool as well. I don't run in nearly enough snowy/icy conditions to justify an ice stud shoe but maybe when I enter my true mountain man phase 😂
You can‘t finish the marathon. Nobody cares. Work harder. You won the marathon nobody cares. Work harder. The accented to the top of mount Piska. Nobody cares. Work harder. Your dog died. Nobody cares. Work harder. You couldn’t get your miles in today. Nobody cares. Work harder. I love that kind of mindset so much 🙏 Because it‘s all about you do about this things whatever it might be. You‘re the only person that can turn it around for you 🔥😍 You have to be a mad men in a world of sad ghosts. A quote from Sexus written by Henry Miller 🙌 I listened to the audiobook of Cameron Hanes way to often 😄 At least minimum 40 or 50 times 🤷♂️
@@supwellCameron describes his childhood with these adjectives : sad, lonely and in pain. And mine was kinda like that too 🤷♂️ So I do something about it 🙏💪 That resonates with me really hard 🔥 He‘s my person of inspiration 🙏🙇♂️
You familiar w/ Dylan Bowman? He's a pro trail runner sponsored by Speedland and runs the trail running media company Free Trail. You guys should connect! Crossover epi??
he went and picked up some speedland’s …uh oh. ….its over. does walmsley need to watch his back ?? cam and yowana .., teaming up in the future. trails are where it’s at
Nobody cares, work harder. Cam Hanes. Hell of guy. He’s definitely not for everyone but that’s okay. I enjoy him on podcast and stuff. I’ve been reading his book, it’s taking me forever to get through it though, he’s got a good story but it also feels repetitive but maybe I just can’t relate to the bow hunting side of things since I’ve never been exposed to much of that world. I don’t think he’d back a bad shoe so it made me really interested in the speedland shoes but I couldn’t justify spending so much on a trail shoe. And I saw some rumor that their might me a road shoe in the future? Hype. My friend had the altra mount Blancs(I think) with the BOA things and he can’t stand it, it’s every 5 minutes he’s dumping rocks out of his shoes. I’ve bust my ass on every wet bridge I’ve ever came across in trail shoes. Bridges in the woods always seem to have a coating of some kinda gunk. I guess it’s just the lugs. I don’t think there is a way to avoid it. Little park close by (not trail) has several bridges and I took them on with Mach 5s in the pouring rain right at an 8:00/mile with no slippage but I was also super mindful and trying to be careful. If I was in a trail shoe, I know I would’ve fell lol. I really think the trail lugs are strictly meant for the dirt and biting that but how do you balance the bite on the ground but then grab a piece of a wood? The surface area just isn’t there. Sacrifice one thing for the best of another.
I support the trail running and your carefree attitude towards the views, shows how genuine you are
My man’s wearing a PS5 on his feet, put some respect on the grind!
Mason has that BOSS mentality... I'd be such a proud Dad listening that: 30:08
She probably drops that on her teacher and peeps!🤣
Mason indeed has that BOSS mentality - thank you for the time stamp on this!! Listened on repeat!! 🤣🤣🤣

Another banger of a video, love the mix of trail shoe reviews with a different scenery 💪🏼
Totally agree
🙌🙌
Glad we still get trail vids. I do almost half my running on trails lol
55:30 onwards is the show 😂😂
Shit is hilarious, Yowana is my spirit animal
love how you started this one with the action! i want a pair of these so badly when i transition to more trail running.
The RAR is working well for me here in the snowy Colorado mountains! Congrats on your first ultra. Keep adding miles 😊
How's the fit? I wear Topo Athletic and it's "ok". Also in Colorado. Cheers!
@ it’s protective and very comfortable. A bit heavy. But would consider for my next 200-Milers.
Happy trails!
Maaaan people need to stop sleepin on the trails. Keep crushing it Yowana! The trail content has been fire 🔥
Thanks man 🙌🏽

Keep the trail content up! Making me want to hit the few trails we have on the Emerald Coast again!
55:30 - 56:30 is gonna be a treat for podcast peeps
Wow I didn’t even know this existed. We now have the jacked-up-pickup-truck-with-spotlights of running shoes. Not for me but glad the market offers variety and innovation.
I'm loving these trail reviews. Very hard to get speedland here in the UK. I have the boa mont blanc, boa is well cool.
Those bad boys look sick. And my narrow feet could def use those dial things. Love it.
Yes for more trail shoes and training!

also, i hit you up on the app about that future mention on design and packaging. it is what i do! 🙌
Need some siping on the lugs. Really give it that mud tire jeep vibe. Raptor Bronco grips.

Completely off topic but what Hoodie were you talking about in one of your many videos I watch? I want to order a couple🙏🏻

Which Rain jacket do you use Yowana? I'm looking for a new one! Thinking about the Patagonia Houdini, but open to suggestions!

that's some good elevation! those california roads are great for the gravel style of shoes that's getting so popular
Keep fucking hammering 🔥🙌 Cameron Hanes is one of my biggest inspiration in life because his life story resonates with me so much 🙏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

You can get custom tape rather than doing boxes. Might be cheaper and you can keep more tape on hand than cardboard.

Would you recommend the Superblast 2, Novalast 5 or Glycerin Max for a third shoe in my current rotation of Ghost Max 2 and Glycerin 21?
You have cushioned comfort on lock with those two so I'd go for something lower to the ground and lightweight. Something like Brooks Hyperion 2, Adidas Adizero SL2 or Nike Pegasus plus would be perfect
BadaBoom!!!
The keep hammering shoe - Cameron Hanes
Speedland or the Hoka Tecton x3 if you had to choose one pair?
have to go tecton x3. traction felt more reliable and it's lighter
Bro, those kids were pretty cute in the vehicle😂
Is the hobby jogger hat now available for international shipping?
yessir!
I really wish this video is from the future and David actually won the Western States 2025!😊❤
Wet wooden bridges are bad regardless of the outsole. My Nordas with Vibram are equally as slippery on them.
They were pretty bad on the wet pavement too unfortunately - trail grip was great though. Glad to hear they performed well in the snow for you 🙌🏽

So the box said it was a Women's 10.5?
it's unisex sizing so 10.5 mens and 12 womens - it says womens big next to the 12 so it's hard to read at first
