Respect. You trained for and completed a hard thing! Thank you for sharing your journey so honestly. I admire your keeping your composure. Despite realizing an error early on you finished. You did truly keep the mustard on the dog. Well done Yowana. Such thoughtful insights and reflections at the end.
The last 15-20 minutes of the video reflecting on the day is some of the best content from the channel so far. I just started running 2 months ago largely because of this channel & the mindset you carry day to day has been a massive motivation for myself & many others! It’s impossible to not be disappointed with how it turned out but we keep moving & improving!
@@OnyxBoy151 I relate with you much!! About 6 months ago, I was in a dark state personally. I came across Yowana’s content because of some shoes I was considering (trail shoes of all things) and didn’t stop watching from there. I’ve run a 5K, 10K and training for another 10K in March. I’ve got much to be thankful for.
@ I found him the exact same way haha! Running constantly for once in my life has been nothing but fantastic for my mental & physical health. I’m definitely gonna be looking for a race to join next year too! Keep up the grind!
You still did the work and your community is proud of you! The external validation (medal) may not have been there this time, but we all know you will continue to do great things in running, life, and business!
Good work man. You finished strong! Appreciate the self-reflection at the end. What I’ve learned to enjoy the most about trail running specifically is how the challenges on the course align with challenges in life. You finished in good health with a beautiful family waiting for you at the end and that in itself is a victory.
Very impressed with the grace you demonstrated in finishing the race with a positive attitude, even though you knew you missed a turn. More learning there for all of us than if you had won!
I love how you did your video on the ultra. The extraordinary physical achievement that had a bump in the road for you. We all have times of feeling awkward, pained, embarrassed, and more. What you've done here is help us all find words and emotions to turn errors into growth recognizing them as a result of living, of being "In the Arena" and getting to a point of forgiving ourselves and going back in for more! Thanks Yowana
Love the dedication to the run, regardless of “official” times and courses. Grateful to have this playing on my longest run yet (16 miles). Up your best!
Nice performance. That is a poorly marked race. The race directors should have either had someone standing there to direct runners which way to go or better signage to tell runners where to go. An intersection like that is confusing.
A lot of us look up to you for your incredible work ethic and positive personality pushing us to work harder. I am convinced that in the mind of most of us u ran a 50k, probably a course record, decimated the competition, stood up to the harsh conditions all with minimal specific training. You are a great old model to me (and many others on here) ofc for your running- but more importantly for your heart ♥️. You finished strong and stuck to your commitment and that is more than enough! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for you next 🤗
You absolutely CRUSHED IT! What an experience, the views are beautiful. Here for the shenanigans at mile 6 😂. Don’t let the DQ disappoint you. That turn is not on you, the course has to be clearly marked. It’s possible you were not the only one. Edit: the HJ community is not disappointed, just INSPIRED!
I really enjoyed the race vlog, well done doing a 50 k and still be healthy and strong. Shows that you have a lot of training in your body. Do more races man, this was fun to watch.
Bang!! That is the best DQ attitude I have ever witnessed! You did amazing and still put in the work despite the disappointment! 💯‼️😎🤙🏻 Great video too. Thanks for adding podcast audio to Spotify; listened yesterday on my run. Merry Christmas 🎄
Bro did a 50k and straight back into the hobby jogger life, I can’t even walk properly after a marathon 😂 Also, Strava doesn’t recognize DQs, it’s 50k mileage in the books of Strava nonetheless 🔥 and massive kudos for not giving up and kept on running, such an inspiration! Bang! 💥
Man I’m bummed for you, but you know what? You ran like an absolute beast and everyone here is super proud of you regardless of the result. Let this experience light a FIRE under you to come back even stronger and wiser next year. That course record is on shaky ground!
I ran my first marathon (first ever all out run) yesterday. My training clearly indicated that I could comfortably run sub 4, so I was aiming at 3:45:00 or better. Things go tougher at mile 17 and I kept telling myself that I did not cheat a single time during my training, I did everything by the book. I was on pace until mile 23 where my body completely shut down (cramps on my quads, hamstrings, and calves at the same time). I had to walk/run and finished in 4:08:00. I was confused and didn't know what went wrong. I now realize that my mistake was going out at marathon pace right away. Every one was running at my marathon pace off the line (even the 4:10 pacer), I realized half way through that most of those people were running the half. It all got into my head and It completely blew away something I've been working towards for 3 months. I can't even imagine how you felt, after everything that went into the preparation. I found comfort and satisfaction by focusing on what I got from the journey rather than the race itself. I've been watching your videos since I began the prep. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the work you put into what you do, the channel, running,... We're all proud and you should be proud too
Congrats on the first marathon! Don't stress too much about the race day strategy - I did the same thing on my first marathon and had a similar result. It's just gosh dang hard to hold goal marathon pace for 26.2 miles 😂 awesome finish though and thank you for the kind words!
Nothing like getting up at 3am to get ready for my half marathon training and I get a notification of another BANGER video! I’m surprised they don’t have the course tapped off. Whether they want to officially count it or not, bro you ran 50K!!!! Most people can’t even run half of a half marathon! You are literally in that top %. When I started my fitness journey in 2011 I was 340lbs. From 2011-2017 it was a roller coaster of losing weight, gaining it back and it wasn’t until 2018 I made the decision to join a bodybuilding competition. I started the prep at 256lbs and stepped on stage at 176lbs. At no point in time did I ever think about a medal, first place etc. the fact that I stuck with a 8 month training program, nutrition plan, cardio plan and blocked out the noise was so satisfying for me. Out of 20+ competitors I walked off in 4th and honestly I wasn’t even expecting to finish in any top 5 spots. As I get older I’ve come to a realization that I’m more in love with the process. The 8months of training, the friendships, the good days the bad days that’s what mattered, not the 2min you stand on stage posing. Now that I’ve been transitioning to running I’m starting to fall in love with this new process. The challenge of waking up at 3am to run before work. Working 8-10hrs and then commuting 90min back home. Spending time with the wife and 2kids, you know being a true HOBBY JOGGER!
Thanks for sharing your story man - that's truly inspirational. A great reminder to cherish the joy of the process and the entirety of the journey 💪🏽 I appreciate you!
I was at the New River Gorge camping and trail running in late Oct. Truly wild and wonderful mountains. Saw all of the mile markers set up for the race, super cool you ran it.

I was out of my mind and was thinking nothing looked familiar and the course suddenly looked fresh. but rather than missing about a mile, I gained a bit more than a mile lol. Turned around got back on course and just kept sleep running lol. I wanna sit here and say don’t beat yourself up over but I get it. We bounce back. Lesson learned. Dude you‘re just amazing and I‘m so hyped for you what will happening on the run for you 😍😍😍😍 I‘m at around 37 minutes and you’ll absolutely crushing that fucking race 🔥🔥🔥😃😃😃😊
One of great things by racing all the time, you just put it in the bank and get back on that horse and go another round..I have done the same thing and missed a turn and end up finishing the 5k part of the race and had to run back to the turn and get back on the 25k route..it took almost the rest of the race to catch up..I used to stew about those things, but after hundreds of races I no longer look back and just look forward to the next race and think about how I can be better..congrats on a great race and enjoying a great day on the trails..being in shape is what makes being able to jump into any race at any time and give it a go...🎉🎉🎉
Very wise words! I'm always inspired to hear about your racing consistency 🙌🏽🫡 and thanks for the tips on the backup shoes. I had my Nike zegamas waiting in case I needed them on the second loop
Love the channel. All the content is amazing. Never done an ultra, but just curious. Missing the turn, if you had run the missed loop on that second lap and just repeated it to make up for the missed loop on the first lap, would it have counted or still been DQ'ed because it wasn't run properly? Great job either way. Very inspiring!
thank you for the kind words! and yeah man if i had thought of that during the race i definitely would've done it 😂 thing is i had no idea that the part i missed was a loop or where the missed turn even was. only reason i even knew i messed up is because the half marathon runners who were ahead of me somehow ended up behind me and passing me
@@supwell hats off to you for the reply. And I just have to speak for all of us commenting and watching, you're a boss! What you do and how you do it is incredibly inspiring. Sorry this one didn't work out how you hoped. I know you appreciate everyone trying to make you feel better, but doesn't make it suck any less. Can't extinguish a competitive fire. Side note, I'm not quite caught up on your content, but after this race, what are your thoughts comparing trail/ultra running to traditional road/marathon racing? Do you like it as much or more? Or will you stick to road racing more traditionally? Thanks again for all you do. The time and effort you spend for all of us is not lost. Keep it up!
Maybe a DQ but it doesn’t matter because you smashed / absolutely vaporized that 50 k before anyone else are coming in 🙌🙏 Big win in eyes for you dude 😍🔥 On camera in the video you really made it look easy to run 50 k 😁💪
Kudos to our goat Yowana for still running the whole ultra even after realizing disqualification. Honestly i think it doesn't matter that you didn't "officially win" because you won for yourself.
Lots of wise reflections Yowana! You crushed the time/distance variables, all things considered and despite the physical pain. Could be worse: imagine how the winner of the Ultra must feel knowing that a guy who trained for only 3 weeks and was filming beat him by 10 min!
Yowana , it’s fine to be disappointed.., that shows that it means something .., even for us hobby joggers. I coach football (gridiron, for our blokes, etc.) and first thing I tell the kids is.., it has to be fun, and second, it has to mean something. it’s all good, I think you did the most.. you put in the mileage and the recovery .., and it shows. keep up the great work. I’m going to attempt a double today.., have to get another 6 miles/10K.. for the day. cheers
Definitely eyeballing that sweater. Would love an athletic beanie or headband (not a standard polyester beanie but like the running ones, basically). Up yo Best!
Bummed for you but I did like the race video format. Definitely cool to see the race day footage. Stud to finish after you knew it was probably a busted race.
Thank you! I don't practice any specific breathing techniques but I think running such a high volume of mileage over the past few years has naturally improved my breathing on the run
Your aerobic base is stunning that you took a drive with family and hang out at Fayetteville after running 50k, I go straight to bed and keep lying on it after only half LSD. And I'm wonder if your left big toe is alright. Nice challenge 👍
Hi, still in my winter hiatus, but i need to congratulate you for the way you handled the series of events, which ended in you not getting the rward you had earned. I do not understand, why the race director had no person guarding this crucial corner of the course. I also do not understand, why they did not do the right thing and declared the second finisher and you both as winners of the race. You ran a great race and ran strong and dedicated despite the fact that you knew early on, that something was wrong . That is a huge achievment I understand your frustration and dissapointment, but at a later time this race will only be a footnote in your life....or even help you to smoth out some wrinkles in the preparation for new and unknown courses
I've missed you around here! Thank you so much for the kind words. I was thinking about your race strategy recommendations the last few weeks and it was super helpful in the prep. Enjoy the winter hiatus and thank you for all of the continued support 🙏🏽
Hi @justanoldfashionedrunner605, I’m just an old slogger. I’ve seen your comments and very much enjoy all your contributions. One comment a while ago you mentioned wanting to get on supwell but not wanting to share a credit card - I get it. Then it dawned on me, one of those Visa gift cards you find at Lowe’s, Target, Staples, some grocery stores allows you to control the amount of funds at risk. You just purchase it for a certain amount of money. Sorry if I’m late mentioning this but it’s an approach that might work

Dude you‘re just amazing and I‘m so hyped for you what will happening on the run for you 😍😍😍😍 I‘m at around 37 minutes and you’ll absolutely crushing that fucking race 🔥🔥🔥😃😃😃😊
One of great things by racing all the time, you just put it in the bank and get back on that horse and go another round..I have done the same thing and missed a turn and end up finishing the 5k part of the race and had to run back to the turn and get back on the 25k route..it took almost the rest of the race to catch up..I used to stew about those things, but after hundreds of races I no longer look back and just look forward to the next race and think about how I can be better..congrats on a great race and enjoying a great day on the trails..being in shape is what makes being able to jump into any race at any time and give it a go...🎉🎉🎉
That is good insight for running, as well as life in general.
Keep it up!
You did great. Congrats on your finish!
Thank you! 🙌🏽
I always put the course on my watch and keep track of turns.
Great hack Cody, thanks
Best 🏃 channel 💯
Thank you 🫡
Maybe a DQ but it doesn’t matter because you smashed / absolutely vaporized that 50 k before anyone else are coming in 🙌🙏
Big win in eyes for you dude 😍🔥
On camera in the video you really made it look easy to run 50 k 😁💪
Putting in that work! Ultra bro
Yessir! 💪🏽
@ can’t wait til next year when you go back and beat the course record !!!
You're a beast man. Congratulations!
Thank you 🙌🏽🫡
Hats off to having an amazing attitude after realizing what went wrong. Awesome.
Thank you 🫡
Kudos to our goat Yowana for still running the whole ultra even after realizing disqualification. Honestly i think it doesn't matter that you didn't "officially win" because you won for yourself.
1:32:23 - what a great laugh; you're a lucky hobby jogger
Truth.
Amazing content
Thank you 🫡
Lots of wise reflections Yowana! You crushed the time/distance variables, all things considered and despite the physical pain. Could be worse: imagine how the winner of the Ultra must feel knowing that a guy who trained for only 3 weeks and was filming beat him by 10 min!
Winning is for them. Finishing is for us
Amazing. Great work!
Who just goes out on their first ultra and crushes it like that?!
Good on you!👊
Thank you! 🙌🏽🫡
We love you Yowana ❤️🙌
Thanks man I appreciate all the support from Germany!!! 🙌🏽💪🏽
Didn’t even need to read the title, the expression on your face on the thumbnail explained everything 😅.
I give you a well deserved unofficial "W". And in my limited vernacular, DQ just stands for Dairy Queen.👏
Hahaha shout out Dairy Queen. And I appreciate it 🙌🏽
Well done mate. We go again
💪🏽🫡
Reevesy the Maurten Mixologist...🤣🤣
Reevesy❣
Maurten mystery solved?
@@NathanPhua He ran three marathons already with that fuel
Bro I am glad your left toe was not amputated on course . Also the Demon Slugs need to converge on that race for redemption.
Hahaha no left toe was lost in the making of this video. I appreciate you man
Yowana , it’s fine to be disappointed.., that shows that it means something .., even for us hobby joggers.
I coach football (gridiron, for our blokes, etc.) and first thing I tell the kids is.., it has to be fun, and second, it has to mean something.
it’s all good, I think you did the most..
you put in the mileage and the recovery .., and it shows.
keep up the great work.
I’m going to attempt a double today.., have to get another 6 miles/10K.. for the day.
cheers
Wise words - and love to hear you're putting in work on the double! 💪🏽
Definitely eyeballing that sweater. Would love an athletic beanie or headband (not a standard polyester beanie but like the running ones, basically).
Up yo Best!
Beanie and hoodie both coming soon!
I’m with you on mile 10+ and I’m on the edge of my seat.
Oh my gosh you ran so well!! Heartbreak mountain! Love this post- race fam time dining! Sweet!
@@laurainthehaute918thank you! I appreciate it 🙌🏽
Way to go champ!
Thank you!
Bummed for you but I did like the race video format. Definitely cool to see the race day footage. Stud to finish after you knew it was probably a busted race.
Thanks Joe 🫡💪🏽
Great job and amazing effort there.. what's your breathing techniques like during your run?
Thank you! I don't practice any specific breathing techniques but I think running such a high volume of mileage over the past few years has naturally improved my breathing on the run
@supwell thanks for taking the time to reply my comment.. you're really inspiring.. DQ = DIDNT QUIT
You running after the finish line has me dying lmao they were probably wondering like where the heck is he going
the way you just kept running after the finish line lol. They must have been so confused 🤣
still a proud achievement! 🫡💪🏼🙌🏼
Your aerobic base is stunning that you took a drive with family and hang out at Fayetteville after running 50k, I go straight to bed and keep lying on it after only half LSD.
And I'm wonder if your left big toe is alright. Nice challenge 👍
At 5:02 The look of a man on a mission! lol
At 5:10 The look of a proud wife that's happy to be with that man who's on that mission! lol
That is a huge achievment
I understand your frustration and dissapointment, but at a later time this race will only be a footnote in your life....or even help you to smoth out some wrinkles in the preparation for new and unknown courses
Sorry if I’m late mentioning this but it’s an approach that might work
What's similar to the vomero 17? Btw had no doubt you would smash that ultra
Still a huge congrats!🎉
