@@legendsflashback Nah with this D-pad the 3D games CAN still work. Haven't tried them all but afaic model 2 Saturn had/has the best D-pad design ever AND it works decently for 3D. I'm rather wondering if this has analog lower triggers (for racing games).
@@legendsflashbackI think the more generic a device becomes the less ergonomic it becomes. Bring up an image of the device on the video, pause it and imagine where the sticks will go. Think about what will have to move or how far your thumbs will have to stretch or where you will rest your palm or the size of the device. This device looks fantastic for many games, but yes, it won't do games that require sticks. A worthwhile trade off I believe.
I've been waiting on a device like this forever. Until now it seemed like every handheld in this size and form factor had to ruin the ergonomics by including analogue sticks. If this has a good D-Pad, I'll absolutely be getting this.
Saturn model 2 style D-pad and what looks to be stacked shoulders... YES!!!!! FINALLY!!! I've been repeating wanting this on different videos, not just Anbernic's, over and over for what feels like an eternity (just the Saturn style D-pad that is; didn't expect the entire console to take the shape of the controller though but that's just an added bonus as it's probably the most comfy 2D controller ever). Idk the specs or anything else but as far as ergonomics and D-pad goes I expect this to be absolutely great (this the one D-pad I figure would work decently for 3D as well). Yup before even seeing the specs I am super excited rn. This is the way to go for the 2D stuff! 👍 Analog lower shoulders (for racing games too)? Not a dealbreaker by any means jw. Decent wifi + two of these would be endless fun (3rd strike, alpha, vampire saviors etc etc). Good choice to showcase the fighting games. If it can run Saturn/DC well it's great; more than that appreciated but mostly a bonus. Edit: A VERY small gripe... As a PAL owner the sexy full black would have been preferred, grey or JP colorway not my thing, but you can't have it all. Now seeing the specs and to see Saturn (my childhood system) actually run... Yeah I'm beyond excited; this may well be the first buy for me since the 351P (that I've loved up to this point but for decent Saturn performance and better ergonomics I would upgrade). VERY good Anbernic! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I would love to have one of these; im actually considering starting a gaming channel or implementing gaming content into my already current existing platform covering retro gaming, peripherals, emulation and things of that nature.
*The more I watch it, the more I love it. I'll definitely buy it on day one.* This is the perfect device for me: - 4" screen, - Linux OS, - not too small, not too big, - good grip, - can run up to Dreamcast/N64. The only downside is the fact it's missing an additional analog stick (some Dreamcast games require BOTH a D-pad and an analog stick).

Excited for this! Looks like they’ve finally used rubber membranes for the shoulder buttons again like the RG353P, instead of the horrendously loud clicky switches. Might actually be able to play this at night without waking everyone up! :). Hope the new Sega-style dpad feels good and accurate, definitely looks promising from these clips!

So.. are we sure this can play SEGA Saturn games? If you're going to make it look like a Saturn controller, it needs to be able to run a SEGA Saturn emulator.
Same rk3566 as the rg353 so hit or miss according to what I've heard and experienced personally. Haven't played hardly any Saturn on my rg353m though so I'm basing that mostly off a quick Google.

@@constantlycorrect8550 You are right. I've seen too many well-known RUclipsrs say how the d-pad is a perfect replica and I don't ever remember my OG Saturn and Genesis controllers ever rocking that much. I had the black ones that came with the units.
@@saltygravy86 It did in the video. Maybe the 3D ones will struggle dk. Not crazy about the colorway (grey and blue simply aren't fun colors; would prefer orange, purple, lime green or pink to break vs black) but damn if this isn't a VERY tempting console. If this has lower analog shoulders I think it's VERY close to a perfect design afaic.
That's why I'm waiting for the release of Miyoo 355 or Flip or whatever they're gonna call it. I'm 100% sure that Anbernic will release a competitor for it.
actually check out the x18s its the first hand held that came out in 2017 that can play ps2 games while anbernic and retropocket just came out with a hand held thats plays ps2 this year its a clamshell
They hadn't made a Lynx or Wonder Swan clone handheld yet. The Lynx and Wonder Swan are unique in that both handhelds control layout could be rotate and allow for left handed player to enjoy. They also had not made a handheld where you could put a visor to your eyes so you could get motion sickness while you retro.
@@TakisEnjoyer The Miyoo Flip is a handheld I want as well! They say it will have a 3.5 inch display, that's a larger display than the GBA SP. The Miyoo Flip I want as well as the Trimui Smart Brick. The Brick will have a design mimicking the Analogue Pocket but with a bezel less display.
@@TakisEnjoyer As far as ANBERNIC making a clamshell as a competitor to the Miyoo Flip, I doubt it will ever happen. If it does happen, it would be quite a head turner because ANBERNIC has never ever created a clamshell and they have been making handhelds for over 10 years or so now. All I ever remember ANBERNIC doing is either portrait based or landscape handhelds.
Hmm… at first, I was a bit sad about the lack of a more powerful chip, and at least a left thumbstick for DC & N64. That would have been enough to be THE ideal 90’s retro gaming handheld. But I guess this really is focused for fighting games/arcade, and Sega. And the Bluetooth controller support could kinda help with the occasional N64 game. HDMI output is a great bonus, especially with the Bluetooth support. I give Anbernic some kudos for giving the 6-button controller a try! However, with the RK3566, it had better be cheaper than the more powerful Retroid R2S IMO, and I’m left wondering if they would revisit the form factor someday with the addition of full N64/Saturn/DC support via an analog thumbstick and CPU/GPU capable of running the 3D games of these systems.
This is the first time I've been really excited for an emulation device. I will be purchasing. Edit: Although, I am concerned about only having 2GB RAM...
That's absolutely not a problem for Linux and the console systems this handheld will emulate, looking at the specs. But it might make it a problem for a bloated allround OS like Android. I know I will buy the Linux only one.
They always come so close but fail to bring one key feature. Either they have Bluetooth for controllers or mini hdmi out, but never both with a low price point. Just got the RG35XX and now I want this. Gonna pass unless it has a good price and all the features.
This looks amazing, but I do think that it needs at least one analog stick (or nub, or whatever) on the left, especially because this device will run N64 and Dreamcast pretty well, and there are quite a few games on those systems that require you to have 2 types of directional inputs. Anyways, really excited for this device.
Dreamcast only had 2 shoulder buttons. So you can make it so L2+dpad = dpad and dpad without L2 = stick. That takes care of the full catalog since they only ever used the dpad as extra buttons like map (or it just mirrored the stick anyway).
Depends on the build quality, but it mostly reminds me of old Megadrive/Genesis d-pads, and I can tell you I spent hundreds of hours playing those, without a single issue (d-pads are sturdier than analog sticks).
My prayers have ALMOST been answered. Is this what those leaks were of the RG 406g? The rendering showed two thumbsticks as well. Will that be a reality?
