Not as expert, but I’ve played DDR for 18 years now.
I have not played DDR WORLD yet, but in my honest opinion, I think there should be definite changes & improvements:
Song Selection:
Since each song is now in a filter instead of an origin folder, an origin label would help.
For example: PARANOiA would have a “DDR 1st” labeled somewhere.
MVs:
Any song with MV should allow players to be given the option to also Full Screen the MV or turn OFF entirely.
Also, since DDR SELECTION is gone, maybe they should bring back some MVs up to DDR EXTREME.
Gameplay Graphics:
In the result screen, there’s no border around texts, making it difficult to read.
Other than that, the announcer, could take a while to get used to. Sure wish they had an option to hear the other announcers again, especially DDR X.
I’m right there with ya! started playing back in 2002ish? and I couldn’t agree more with the points you made… a label for the songs would be a nice touch to the music selection screen
The movies should definitely have at least 2 options of ON and OFF but also a MINIMIZE option to get what they offer now (small video in the bottom middle)
I never had any DDR X machines near me (after Super Nova 2 DDR near me started to become nonexistent… which is a shame and one of the main reasons I stopped playing for like 10 years)
They should be able to fix any of the issues you and I have with this game with OTA software updates, but the fact that it got released like this in the first place doesn’t make me to hopeful that that’ll happen let alone any time soon
For me, I think the removal of ⬆⬆ and ⬇⬇ for difficulty change is a life improvement. Two things: (1) to prevent mistakes from accidentally change the difficulty before the song starts, and (2) to prevent others from changing your choice of difficulty, especially when there's kids who suddenly jumps in the pad when you're still playing.
@@aaronamar6244 for those who don’t use it and have mistakes/children accidentally change difficulties yes that is definitely an improvement.
For my personal experience of playing DDR for 20+ years i’d say I haven’t had enough mistakes or third party interference to be happy about this change. The problem is not the game itself but me playing for 20+ years and being able to do that to now have it gone is wild to me. It’s definitely an easy to take care of problem once you realize the UPUP/DWNDWN isn’t working you instantly remember to change it with the number pad or when selecting a song it automatically brings up the difficulty selection so of course not the end of the world but I just feel like i’m being abandoned as a lifelong player lmao
@@DietDietRevolution I also understand being sentimental about that, as a long-time player and a Fan of DDR since 2nd MIX (I was 7-ish years old then), it's always been the UPUP/DOWNDOWN to change difficulty from 3rd MIX to A3, until WORLD version. And if you've been stopped playing the game and went back to today, it'll be really confusing to navigate (like there's a lot of UI/UX changes with WORLD), but I think there's reason/s for every changes. And maybe nothing's really permanent except change, like they said. So it's up to us to adapt.
P.S. I also hate the filter songs feature for a 90-sec time limit, makes me really panic. I wish they'd bring back the sort feature instead.

They actually released an update yesterday that fixed a few of the problems which is great that konami is working on improvements this quickly
The quality of life improvements are fantastic. You'll adjust to the sort as you play more. Everyone hates change because it's change initially. My one gripe are the bg videos. A lot of songs have amazing music videos that got resorted to a tiny box in the lower middle. Having all of that green on every video all the time makes the game feel a little samey. Gameplay wise, it feels great.
You could definitely be right with that change stuff… especially an old school player like me who didn’t even know what eamuse was last year
The BG video thing is a huge blow to people like you and me who enjoyed music videos in the background… the arrow lanes provided enough separation to where the arrows didn’t get lost in the videos like they did in earlier games so I don’t know what was the thought process around this design change but maybe they’ll update the options screen with something like

• ON
• OFF
• MINIMIZED (this setting being exactly what we have now the small video on the lower middle of the screen)
I need 2 fixes and I will accept everything else.
1.Fix the music sort.
2.Add a Disable Announcer option in the settings
That's bare minimum I need tbh.
I hate the announcer too tbh, hearing all what he’s saying just gets me annoyed even if it gets me compliments. I just wanna focus lol
I didn't even get to hear the announcer because the round 1 location I go to has the volume so low lmaooooo

Unless its under First Step, I wish there was a category that was just "DDR Classics" or something and its just all the Konami originals/licensed classics. ;- ;
a few more categories would’ve been nice (especially since we now have that keypad “6” option for sorting… they could pretty much shove anything we can think of in there right?)
My girlfriend and I made it out to Round1 the first weekend after the update and the machines were totally camped by two doofuses with duffle bags and gallon bottles for the 4 hours we were there. I was super bummed to not be able to give it a spin but MAN did I not expect to see it change like this 🤣
That's rough man, if you've gotta tape instructions to the cab to help people unlock content that should be easily accessible that's gonna put a lot of strain on users.
Like I'm not a PUI player, but they've got a similarly goofy way to unlock the full song list and difficulty access too, and that shit still stumps me half the time.
I'm sure it's not too far out from receiving some overhauls, the feedback seems pretty consistent from the players.
@@Odwalla_YT that’s kind of one of the reasons why I didn’t go to the arcade as soon as the update released, kind of figured people would be hogging it to try and get the first “high scores” or whatever. Glad I trusted my gut lol
That’s one huge reason why I don’t play pump, I actually like the Diagonal Arrow floor buttons and played a lot when ITG2 stopped being a thing and they moved a bunch of songs to PIU, that machine had a traditional ITG style music selection screen and options screen. Played a bunch back in the day but after that one version of the game I never got interested in playing it again because it seems way to complicated (even tried doing the “M” thing with your feet when starting a game but still didn’t quite understood what to do after)
The next day after filming this video I went back to the arcade to play the way I would with A20/A3 and gave it a real shot, there were so many glitches and stuff with the song selection screen (even found a way to make it silent while scrolling through instead of hearing the last song you was on until you land on another song)
I think this game will have at least 4 or 5 major updates before they leave it alone… it definitely doesn’t seem polished enough for release which is shocking since this franchise is so old
That story of the two doofuses is both hilarious and infuriating at the same time 😂. Sure you can ask to play next, but then they'll act like they're doing you a favor and reluctantly "allow" you to play, entitled mindset.

Standing behind them and waiting doesn't work, chatting them up doesn't work, and you're exactly right once you are finally able to snag a machine you're just getting stared down the entire time while they "allow" you a turn.
The arcade communities will never be like they used to man.

So like dudes will straight up use the machine for 4 hours straight? Back in my day we had a quarter slot on the machine you just write your initials on it and whoever lost hops off and you hold onto your quarter
DDR works is a digital download when downloaded from the server there is a script that uninstalls a3 and installs ddr world

Konami should listen to fans and released a quality of life improvements
a nice 1.5 update with a bunch of useful (good) recommendations from the community could make world a LOT better

@@Joshuaisnotinsane23 definitely! for those who get to play once in a while an update an august will be great. I know a lot of regulars at my nearby round 1 and dave and busters who will probably be a bit unhappy having to wait over a month for some quality of life improvements. Of course not the end of the world but it’s definitely a bit annoying to deal with some of the stuff we have right now
The disappointing thing is... Come on ddr has a big screen... Even at least 37 in right now.. But why the bga is so small.. Gitadora can still be better than that
I agree! such a weird design decision... it should at least give you the option to make it full screen like A3 in the settings/options screen
That first song, I've seen a lot of the higher tier players play. I should consider it, myself, but I could never recall the song title. At least it's a 12 on ESP. I also like how the Extra stage doesn't necessarily force you on LIFE4, either. Seeing the current BPM is nice, too. I still don't like the background being atuck in a small square. I wish that was changable.
Also, was that PiU machine working? I went, the day prior, and the reader was buster, and P2's bottom left panel was getting stuck.

Extra stage not being restricted to LIFE4 is definitely a welcomed touch, I don’t know if that saves the game tho honestly… extra stage being able to end upon missing 4 times felt… ok? background videos being such a small square (or “rectangle”) is a huge deal to me because we have the “sunglasses” thing behind the arrows so having full screen music videos which didn’t blend in with the arrows were like a huge appeal to me (playing New Rules by Dua Lipa for example)
PIU machine was working fine last night, a lot of people were playing it didn’t seem like it had any issues (although I wasn’t watching the screen so i’m not sure if any buttons were stuck)
I only really play PiU personally, but I think maybe the BGA change could assist with players who turn BGA off to play? Not sure if that's a thing in DDR, but in PIU I always feel pretty crappy when I forget to turn BGA off on certain songs. (Ragnarok D17 specifically lol)
@@TheParkerlion For players who turn off the BGA this would probably be a huge upgrade, but to my knowledge (again, old school player here lol) that wasn’t an option and the game had a kind of “sunglasses” to appear behind the arrows and it was perfectly fine in my opinion… what they did now is make the game a little… lifeless? I feel like the cartoony bright feel is gone and now I have two strangers staring into my soul while playing and it just feels wrong to me LOL before you could’ve chosen a dancer to dance on screen which I thought was a neat feature back in the day but they slowly and slowly stripped everything away to what we have now… which I don’t personally think is the best move

Yeah, I don't like when the BGA is too distracting either.
I don't mind the new format because I don't care about the videos or BGA but I thought the ability to dim the arrow lanes was already good from before enough. Either way, I don't mind.
Yeah the ability to dim the arrow lanes was something that was very much needed especially from the days where the BG videos had a lot of Red and stuff that kind of blended in with the arrows. Arrow lane dimming was a phenomenal upgrade that was very well deserved for all DDR players who stuck it out with the craziness aha
First Impression to me is quite that bad.
I love its new color scheme.
I like those additional options like Floating Flare gauges, and some options which used to be set on website appeared.
I also like the display speed that modified too, followed by Speed Options.
I agree that static animation background. Why isn't it to be full screen for video background ?
I also agree about weird selecting music. New users may harder to choose music and difficulty.
Why is groove radar not appeared ? Users have to guess how much difficult of each chart ? That was actually one of my favourite classic feature.
8:08 Correction. The biggest amount is held by MAX 360 (CSP) which has 1000 combos. But yeah.. currently the only one.
Last to me.. IF it would upgrade A3 theme along with those new additional options, that should be enough for anything..
I honestly love the new color scheme! anything in the mint-color realm/spectrum is awesome to me! the micro speed adjustments is a VERY welcomed addition as well...
besides that I have nothing really else good to say. Even the combo counter starting with 0000 is really really annoying to me aha

I’m sorry, but the new system is a step in the wrong direction (no pun intended). There is a reason why the system of old is what makes DDR what it is, and replacing it with this is kinda a slap in the face for the player who have played for a long time.

i tried that, and lose kinda 20 coins but only got something exactly the same as premium play?
to be completely honest I do not have a whole lot of time involved in DDR World... I played it twice since it released (both times were vlogged) so I'm not too sure unfortunately...

@@DietDietRevolution Passing on a harder Flare guage gives you more rank points.
Reaching certain ranks will unlock songs.
@@DietDietRevolution It doesn't matter which Flare Gauge you use. Start with Flare I first, and then work up your way to Flare EX when you start getting the hang of it. I haven't played DDR World yet, but I'll definitely consider it to unlock the songs that are needed for it. The Floating Flare option which is exclusive to Galaxy Play is great for determining which Flare Gauge option is appropriate for you. Floating Flare basically starts on Flare EX, but the Flare Gauge level decreases every time the gauge is fully depleted. Each level plays differently though, from Flare I to Flare IX, getting a Great or lower would decrease your gauge, with Flare IX being the most punishing. Flare EX however punishes you on Perfects, and Great or lower would severely punish you
Part of the charm of DDR is having fun background visuals and dancers. This UI is ass and kind of hate how hardcore they’re going for the anime-theming.

@@DietDietRevolution they are not there. I went to Round 1 a few weeks ago and I didn’t notice that the game completely changed.
I was looking for a song from past DDR’s and I couldn’t find it. That’s when I decided to not play that version of DDR again. Play DDR extreme
@@miguel_p1000 I think you probably did like I did and didn’t unselect “World” filter (you have to press 6 on the keypad to bring up this option)

As a DDR player since the birth of the game, my (impopular) opinion about this version is: Garbage.
- No fullscreen BGA's
- No generic fullscreen with dancing characters BGA's
- No Groove Radar
- No "Here we go" Signal
- The announcer got most of DDR X Voice dialog lines, and sounds like an IA. This will be incredible to say but, i will miss DDR X Announcer!!
- Green background everytime will cause burn to LCD screens
- Emi & Rage Super Saijan SS4 Final Forms (Where are the other 15-20 characters?)
- Song selection screen is... bleh...
- Diagonal judge timing window... Bring me the f**ing programmers!!!
Sorry, but this is not a DDR series. This is a Stepmania "Closed source". Seriously Konami... You killed DDR SD Cabs, and you made this? Is really this game a 25th anniversary tribute?
Although they did release an update recently "fixing" some of the issues (issues that shouldn't have been there on day 1) its still a mess in my opinion and could use another 3 or 4 updates aha
