- I have decided to make an effort into taking Sonic into Elite Smash. In this first video, I'm playing a few matches to see which parts of my game I will try to improve first. I hope you'll enjoy the video!

I think I have a lot of stuff about my game that I want to improve but you can’t work on everything all at once. Please feel free to share your best tip about imoroving at Smash Ultimate. Thank you for watching!
Im not a sonic player by any means but I am a guy who plays this game far too often and I think I found some things you might want to take a look at.
1. I notice you dash away a lot. This could work because sonic is a hit and run character but I feel like you're dashing away a bit too far. Sometimes you're dashing so far away that you can no longer punish their landing so keep in mind to always be within punish distance.
2. You've already talked about going off stage with sonic and thats certainly a good thing. It might be useful to know that sonic can do a down air off stage (to spike people) and he can always recover with jump and up b (you can also airdodge upwards after the up b for more distance). Its a useful option to have at your disposal.
3. When talking about sonic's out of shield options 2 moves come to mind, up smash and grab. Up smash can easily be performed when holding shield because you can imput smash attacks while being in shield. Up smash will scoop from both sides and will kill at higher %. Grab is pretty fast and can put your opponent in a bad place, off stage for example. You can easily imput a turn around grab and it can punish most shielded moves.
4. Sonic's f smash is AMAZING. It beats literally any move in the game that is not invincible. It has very good range and it can also 2 frame. When characters grab the ledge there is a 2 frame window where theyre vulnerable, this is where sonic's f smash comes in. Because of its range it shouldnt be too difficult to space. All you have to learn is to time it right. This will always result in a kill at higher % because its also quite strong.
5. I notice that after you dash away you approach with fair alot. This is very predictable and some opponents already noticed this habit. Ofcourse this approach can work, but you have to keep in mind to mix up the timing.
PS. Do you maybe want to play smash with me sometime? If so, let me know. If not, I understand.
Thanks a lot for taking your time to give me all these valuable tips. Never thought about using upsmash as an oos option but I’ll make sure to do some lobbing with that one! I’m totally up for playing some Smash with you. You’ll find my email on my “about”-page. Send me a message there and we’ll set something up!
Great match ;-)
Thanks :)
Fighting off stage is why I play Jigglypuff, she's easily one of the best characters in this game for aerial combat. I'm working up to elite smash also, but there is always lag which gets in the way. lol :)
Jigglypuff is for sure tough to fight off stage and she can recover from anywhere. And yes, not many people seem to have invested in LAN adapters so the connection is inconsistent at best in online Smash :)
Sometimes it can help to watch for bad habits from your opponent and yourself (rolling, air dodging, how they react after they miss something big like a smash attack etc.) Punish wise I'd recommend a dash grab or a fast smash attack like Sonic's f smash
Thanks for the tips! I agree that it’s very important to watch your opponents habits too. It’s easy to use focus on your own game.
Great video!
My Roy is at 9.7 gsp at the moment but I don’t really feel like getting him to elite just yet
That’s a lot of GSP, nice work! :)
