I love this video because a lot of people focus too much on thinking they need to get stronger to get better at climbing, but this showcases that if you're not at a very advanced level of climbing, technique is FAR more important. Sondre is already a great climber, but you can clearly see his limiting factors are certainly not strength-related.
If you're in your first few years of climbing, focus on actually learning to climb. You'll get stronger naturally, but more importantly you'll learn the technique, intuition, and muscle memory that it takes to climb hard routes. If your focus is to get better at climbing, then strength training should be more of a supplemental afterthought.

@@Cangaca777 Not just technique really. The body has so many muscles and if you do the same routines most of them will not develop that well. What you need for bouldering isn't the same you need for Sondre's exercises/stunts.
When I still climbed I had a number of routines and tools to develop my grip, for example. Certain hand-muscles you rarely need in our lives but are crucial for a strong grip on the wall.

Awesome vid Magnus! I love it when you feature people that are already intermediate climbers (and maybe strong in another sport), and seeing you take them to the next level. I think having a basic understanding of climbing technique allows you to work with them so much more (as opposed to having to teach them "arms straight" every time).

9:11 i'm only partway through but this is amazing. i'm a beginner who hasn't started yet, and getting to see basically a training session but also how to THINK through these and problem solve, AND just to get familiar with everything is sooooooooooooooooooooo invaluable. (that's excitement.)
i'm afraid of heights (falling, not all heights in general) and decided this would be a good way to push myself. but also because i found that i LOVE watching people climb. i've seen vids of competitions and stuff. nerve-wracking, AMAZING, just incredible. so i wanna see if i can overcome my limitation.
strength is obviously needed, so i plan to get that beefed up then start. but vids like these are such inspiration. and that the teaching is very laid back and.... idk collaborative? i do worry about not being good enough, for a teacher to not be annoyed. i know a good teacher wouldn't show that and would be understanding and patient but..... well, not every teacher lives up to that ideal. i want it to be fun, not an exercise in inadequacy.
