The man stared. "Welcome," he said, nodding. "How are you?: "I'm good," Magnus replied. "How are you?" The man stared. He was not prepared for this. His code must be rewritten. Edit: I don't actually know Bryan well enough to like or dislike him. I think I even like him (though I'm sure he's a bit odd). But he's just funny regardless.
The phrase "How are you" is not used as a greeting in Norway, when asked it is literally like in Germany, and you will get an answer. Along the lines of "hi, welcome" is a lot better.
Honestly I've heard many people clown on Bryan for spending so much money on anti-aging but I feel like these kinds of rich people are the ones we need the most. The ones who actually try and publish invaluable data on subjects that are usually misconstrued or filled with faux information.
Huh? I've never seen such garbage. Grip strength and number of pushups giving your "biological age"? All they show is how many things you've gripped and how many pushups you've done. I couldn't do 70 pushups like that at ANY point in my life. What about skin elasticity? Number of microtumors in your body? Number of microstrokes in your brain? Does grip strength measure that? And washing down 100 pills a day with olive oil? Think: There's a million different diets ni the world. If there was a SINGLE ONE that made you live longer than average, we'd know. Even Okinawa turned out to be mostly good genetics concentrated on an island (who knew that isands tended to concentrate genes...?) Longevity is genes combined with luck and not sitting down all day. nb. Walking an hour a day is fine, probably less will do. No, competing in triathlons won't add years. Diet? EVERYBODY is different, AND it varies with age. Try to mix it up. Eat lots of different things and find what suits you, then try other things.

I’m 47 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I’ll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial masque which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. There is an idea of a Bryan. Some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me. Only an entity. Something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours, and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.
I don’t get why this dude Bryan gets any hate at all. He’s literally living his life as an experiment so that we can live a longer healthier life.. Pretty admirable 🤷
It's the undeserved arrogance, like that video he made recently where he was acting like he did some big reveal "see everyone? look how young I am after two years!" with before and after videos, he didn't look any younger, he just looked slightly less horrifically ill than two years previous when he was as white as a sheet of printer paper and had the hairline of Cynthia the doll from Rugrats. I'm all for science, but he needs to stop acting like he's actually getting results, because he's clearly not and the obvious plastic surgery and hair transplants and fake teeth certainly aren't helping him seem believable because he's trying to make himself look young artificially to try and convince us his mad scientist experiments are working and we're just not that stupid.
Bryan is a rarity indeed.. just a super nice guy who projects positivity and wants to be completely honest, transparent and share all his data for free. So refreshing!

I really enjoyed how thrilled Bryan was for Magnus. You can tell that it's truly a passion of his to bring out the best in people, and that it's not a matter of stroking his own ego. Awesome vid!
The fact Magnus had his eyes closed for one leg standing and still got to 40sec. is incredible. I can do it forever with my eyes open; the second i close them, i fall over instantly.
there's a huge difference in doing it with eyes open and eyes closed: with eyes open I could do it indefinitely, like 5+min, then it's just waiting till my leg is absolutely pumped, but I never felt out of balance - but with eyes closed I was more like 01:45 and I lost complete track of time and perception of space fairly quickly and there balance was indeed quite hard to maintain after a while.
Having a chef prepare these dishes is such a big advantage. I think it's very difficult for people to follow this lifestyle because you need to be very structured to be able to prep your life in order to always have these meals perfectly prepared.
He has compared himself to a monk before in this regard. Some monks do extreme and impractical things to better their health or their mind and you aren't expected to copy it. He also refers to himself as like an athlete which is similarly analogous. He is doing everything he possibly can, he is the extreme, he is literally a guinea pig, but he hopes other people can learn something from him which will help them. You mention his diet, but you don't even know what his diet is, it's not difficult to emulate. His meals are easy to make and use simple ingredients. The recipes are published along with the reason for each ingredient. He has a chef to help him experiment and because he is really busy.

I clicked into this video thinking it was all going to be holistic medicine and junk science. But he actually goes with empirical evidence, tests things scientifically, and tries to be pragmatic about his approach to longevity. Big props to Bryan. Still on the fence about taking shots of olive oil, but to each their own.
He's so right on with the supplement you want to take is the one you're deficient in. And he obviously understands moderate caloric restriction and only chosing the absolutely best food ingredients. How does he reconcile this with slamming a shot of olive oil?!
I don't take seed oils but olive oil is a little different - I think the jury is out on that one, even to most of the anti seed oil crowd. Also you can bet your bottom dollar he does not get the cheap schmutter! - what he has will be 100% real extra virgin, not just labelled that way. So is guzzling olive oil contraindicated anyway if you are consuming lots of carbs? I guess it depends on if he drinks that away from large carb meals to avoid problems with the Randle cycle. Personally mainly meat and eggs makes me feel healthier and decades of nasty acid reflux is gone eating like that so that's important to me - while I'm alive - who knows about longevity. I could be interesting to see a meeting Brian with M.D Dr Anthony Chaffee!
Fats are a vital aspect of a healthy diet. While I'd personally argue that the specific type of fat you take in doesn't matter so long as your diet isn't high in non-omega-3 polyunsaturated fats, olive oil isn't bad at all. I suspect there's some evidence he's found that indicate high monounsaturated fat consumption is worthwhile. Or, if he's concerned about food toxicity or microplastics or some such, it may simply be that it's the easiest source of dietary fats that doesn't come with a host of drawbacks. This is all speculation, but personally, I see nothing wrong with taking straight olive oil.

As a martial artists who regularly trains standing on one leg and trying to hold balance. Here are some tips for any one looking to improve on it 1. Look straight ahead, keeping your gaze focused on one specific point far ahead of you. It will make it easier to keep balance than looking downwards (a quite significant amount of our balance is based on our sight, and why it’s so much harder to stand on one leg with closed eyes. By looking straight ahead you are giving your brain more info to work on to determine if you are tipping one way or the other etc) 2. Do it barefoot. You want to use all the fine small muscles in your toes and feet to help make corrections and help keep balance. Doing it with shoes is almost like trying to eat with chopsticks while wearing gloves. Using your arms to counter balance, is way bigger and more likely to be slightly wrong and throw you off balance. Tension your big toe or your other toes and other parts of your foot, and mainly try to keep balance just using your toes. 3. Bend the knee you are standing on ever so slightly. Just to make sure you aren’t over extending it and locking the knee. 4. Train it a little bit regularly. This is a easy thing to train while doing everyday stuff. While you are waiting for something in the microwave, waiting for your coffee / tea to brew. Etc. Just 40 seconds on each leg. And I would suggest to keep it at around 1 minute to 40-ish seconds per leg, because it gets boring and harder to squeez in if it gets much longer than that. Just make easier or harder variations. To start out easier if you have trouble standing on one leg for a minute. I would suggest you start with having something to hold on to. Like a kitchen counter or a door frame, etc. Try to use the support as little as possible. And keep the balance on your own as much as possible. But standing the whole time (with a little support) will help build the muscles in your feet, and in your legs that you are using to stand that longer time. Then do one minute on each leg unsupported. Once you can do that without problem. Try to have the other leg bent infront of you and keeping it still and not waving it around to try and help you keep balance. Keep your back straight, not moving the arms or the other leg, and just keep balance with the muscles in your foot. Then raise that knee of the other leg higher and higher infront of you, to help make it a bit more challenging. Once that gets easy, then carefully (so be mindful of what’s around you) train it with your eyes closed. It’s significantly harder with your eyes close, so be prepared for that. Once you can do that, try to keep your balance with your eyes closed and doing one legged squats, start out with just bending the knee a little and then slowly over time increase how low you go. Good luck!
I didn't know that this was supposed to be hard. I got curious from the video and tried it and I easily got to 2 minutes! I stopped just because I got bored of it. Not trying to brag here, I am just surprised I beat Magnus at something lol
@@Groenewaal in the video it looks like they are both doing the test for standing on one leg with their eyes closed. (They both did more than one attempt, and for all of them it looks like their eyes are closed) So I’m assuming it was part of the test to do it with your eyes closed, though we didn’t hear any detailed instructions for the test. If you had your eyes open, I suggest giving it a second go. It makes a surprisingly big difference in how difficult it is. Close to 2 minutes with eyes closed is really great.
This doesn't reflect badly on Magnus at all but that age test in the second half of the video is such bullshit. First of all, no, just because you're strong doesn't mean you are young. You see it instantly with the grip strength test. Magnus has spent practically his whole live training for grip strength, so he's going to get a better score. If he was training for benchpress instead, would that make him an older person? According to this test it would. Also, he apperently instantly improved the freak millionaire's score just with some quick technique pointers. Did he de-age in those minutes? And then there's the data that was used. To be seen as a fit 19 year old, you need to be able to do 50 pushups (!) but only be able to stand on one leg for 40 seconds? I mean come on. Again, nothing wrong with Magnus for making the video (it was great) but anyone who thinks this is a serious or exact science may have lost sight of reality a little bit...
correlation vs causation is always something to consider, but the way I viewed it, seems like Bryan + team are working on their own studies to find more conclusive evidence about things? it didn't come across like "if you can do 50 push ups you are 19 years old biologically" but "if you can do 50 push ups you are similar in health to someone younger than you"
It doesn't show the biological age, but it does show the correlation with the physical age or basically their physical ability and comparing it to the people with the best performance and if you ignore athletes and focus simply on the ages in which on average they do these physical tests the best, well then you are gonna discover (even in athletes usually) that the best ages are around 18-25 and after that usually in all kinds of sports the performance on average is getting worse. So you just compare the numbers, it's really not that deep and could be a good indicator, especially the flexibility test. Take it more as areas on which you should focus on.

He's always trying to be informative, helpful, and charismatic while doing so. He, to my perspective, really is passionate about this subject, money aside. Again, he sells products, when you can make money that's not a horrible thing, but his attempts to not shill it beyond normal RUclips ads or a placement here and there really makes me think twice before just shutting this guys opinions and research down immediately, like I normally would. He has genuinely intrigued me so much with the content that he is a part of, and I think I'll continue watching stuff related to him from time to time for the research and to get a different perspective like his on these subjects. I'm the opposite. The stand up and sit down thing without hands being something most men can't do is bullshit. It's a good mobility test for basic fitness and and actual old people, but if you're even remotely healthy you should be able to do it.

this made me gain an appreciation for this guy and how much hes doing on the research side, only seen memes prior but cool to see how serious they really take it and all the data they're collecting
it doesnt make any sense, if you start training more after your 18 it will increase. there is no scientific background for this. allthough grip strength is a good indicator for fitness
those tests were bullshit lmao, the average 40-45 year old would smoke any 20-25 year old at grip strength. im 26 and my grip strength was weak as fuck as a 19 yo compared to now
it's based on a heuristic that as people age they get weaker. not necessarily that 18 is when they are the strongest. for example, the avg 60 year old has less grip strength than the avg 18 year old. and no, most people don't do labor jobs.
@@adam-z9e2jno that is absolutely wrong. We are strongest in our late teens and 20s. Most people then decay after because they don't train. So no, zero chance most people in their 40s smoke most 20 years olds. Yet there are SOME 40 year olds, those who train are just bigger etc.
Here's a bit of data. I own the same kind of dynamometer (it is very affordable and thus all over the internet) and once brought it to a meeting of men of ages 25-60. I used it with the reading in kilograms. My own score, training for grip strength (and applying all the minute improvements as shown in the video) was around 62. My coworkers mostly had anything between low fifties and up low seventies. The young guys were scoring rather lowly. Remarkably my skinny 60-year old boss, who is not exercising got a result of about 70. So I took this to mean, that grip strength is a trained skill (that can likely improve with age) instead of a context-free marker of youth.

The man stared. He was not prepared for this. His code must be rewritten. "Welcome," he said, nodding--and paused. Time. He needed time. He continued staring for a moment, waiting for the code to update. Ahh. At last. "Come in!" He gave another tight-skinned nod.

Honestly I've heard many people clown on Bryan for spending so much money on anti-aging but I feel like these kinds of rich people are the ones we need the most. The ones who actually try and publish invaluable data on subjects that are usually misconstrued or filled with faux information.
Sure we really need quacks telling us food is wildly toxic.
Even Okinawa turned out to be mostly good genetics concentrated on an island (who knew that isands tended to concentrate genes...?)
Longevity is genes combined with luck and not sitting down all day.

I read like a quarter thinking - what is this guy... AH I see what u did there.
I'm all for science, but he needs to stop acting like he's actually getting results, because he's clearly not and the obvious plastic surgery and hair transplants and fake teeth certainly aren't helping him seem believable because he's trying to make himself look young artificially to try and convince us his mad scientist experiments are working and we're just not that stupid.

there's a huge difference in doing it with eyes open and eyes closed: with eyes open I could do it indefinitely, like 5+min, then it's just waiting till my leg is absolutely pumped, but I never felt out of balance - but with eyes closed I was more like 01:45 and I lost complete track of time and perception of space fairly quickly and there balance was indeed quite hard to maintain after a while.

Having a chef prepare these dishes is such a big advantage. I think it's very difficult for people to follow this lifestyle because you need to be very structured to be able to prep your life in order to always have these meals perfectly prepared.

True, but you also do not need to do everything he does, good sleep, exercise, and healthy diet would suffice for a decent state in your late years.
he does sell em premade, probably not 100% like a chef, but at least the right nutrients

Meet the medic energy
It has a lot of vitamin E

As a martial artists who regularly trains standing on one leg and trying to hold balance.
Here are some tips for any one looking to improve on it
1. Look straight ahead, keeping your gaze focused on one specific point far ahead of you. It will make it easier to keep balance than looking downwards (a quite significant amount of our balance is based on our sight, and why it’s so much harder to stand on one leg with closed eyes. By looking straight ahead you are giving your brain more info to work on to determine if you are tipping one way or the other etc)

Magnus closing his eyes for the balance making it way harder than it had to be
This doesn't reflect badly on Magnus at all but that age test in the second half of the video is such bullshit.
The standing on one leg thing definitely seems insanely low, surely even 10 times that is pretty easy?

This man sells items, and sells things that I'm not 100% certain are worth the money.
However, I do see that he isn't ever trying to promote the stuff he sells in these collabs.

@@thomasbecker9676 "Health benefits of physical activity: the evidence" published by CMAJ and "Effects of Rock Climbing Exercise on Physical Fitness among College Students: A Review Article and Meta-analysis" published by The Iranian Journal of Public Health, both peer-reviewed. Do you honestly think these studies dont exist?
@@DavidWMiller completely not true
I've been wondering about what makes your videos so watchable. I think that your editing and music use has matured so much. They're legit documentary quality. Do you have someone else working with you as a team or is it mostly just you doing all of this, cause it's superb.
I am 63 and have never worked out and can stand on one leg easily for over a minute unless I close my eyes and then only a short time. I can cross my legs and stand back up without any help from my arms no problem.
Purpose of 1 leg stand was with eyes closed. If you do it with open eyes, you can practically do it for tens of minutes until your leg just give up.
Magnus .. you never cease to amaze me. haha brilliant!!
These guys are great together!!
I've been waiting, a new one from you!
thank God for guys like Odd Haugen who make aging look badass.
honestly I didnt know Bryan was chill like that. I’d love to see Bryan do a climbing session next
This was an unexpectedly nice collab! A little teasing camaraderie but pretty positive and encouraging in the end and throughout. Bryan seems like an awesome host as well! Thanks for this Magnus!
Lmao the timing of this video ! 😂I finally tried the nutty pudding this morning and I just ate the super veggie for dinner (both for the first time) - I must say that they both tasted really good ! I added some salmon to my super veggie and I used almonds instead of macadamia nuts for the nutty pudding (also, try vanilla protein for the nutty pudding, it's amazing) Nutty pudding was seriously a 10/10 and the super veggie is a 8.5/10
gotta be around forever to keep posting lebron highlights, love the content btw :)
I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
@@schmied.3039 Haha yup, when is he ever going to retire lol
I am watching this while drinking a beer. My mind works in mysterious ways.
lol when Magnus completed his pushups, it looked like Brian was impressed but also wanted his blood.
He is pretty poor for a rich guy. Now imagine what really rich and powerful do.
I bet those stories about adrenochrome and torturing kids isnt just just a tin foil hat story.
the only part of him that looks "young" is his face (even then, the age is noticeable) and its the plastic surgery that did that. so how do we know he is actually "younger and healthier"? wheres the proof for that?
I love Bryan. Love to see this more relaxed setting ♡
Whatever personal feelings I have about spending your life to potentially extend it, at least he seems like a decent person and publishes his findings. Thanks for the vid Magnus, definitely gives more perspective on the guy.
we gotta get eddie hall in there
He wouldn’t fit the equipment
bro is one of the few rich ppl putting their money to good use, good on him
all you need to stay young is magdust and the juice
Not me at 2AM trying out standing on one leg. When I tie my shoes, I usually stand on one leg and pull up my other leg to tie my shoes. This way I train balance and flexibility of my leg with a daily thing lol. I did 2:30minutes until it was too boring. I guess my weirdness paid out. (31 years old, I do bouldering and did hiphop dancing for fitness)
You have to close your eyes i think
Now try it with eyes closed.
this made me gain an appreciation for this guy and how much hes doing on the research side, only seen memes prior but cool to see how serious they really take it and all the data they're collecting
This is cool that you are doing something other from climbing aswell.
I was hoping he would climb all over this guys house
The fact when he cracks jokes and Magnus looks at the camera man for reassurance made this vid so funny 😂
Love Bryan ! He's helping us alot with getting better health ! People who are hating on him are just in a bad spot in life
The Dark secret 27:12

Nobody else is curious what the biological age was?
19:50 Why would a 18 year old have greater grip strength than an adult at any age?
it doesnt make any sense, if you start training more after your 18 it will increase. there is no scientific background for this. allthough grip strength is a good indicator for fitness
those tests were bullshit lmao, the average 40-45 year old would smoke any 20-25 year old at grip strength. im 26 and my grip strength was weak as fuck as a 19 yo compared to now
it's based on a heuristic that as people age they get weaker. not necessarily that 18 is when they are the strongest. for example, the avg 60 year old has less grip strength than the avg 18 year old. and no, most people don't do labor jobs.
