Pulsemod MIG welder mod prototype demonstration

- Demo of my mig pulse welder add on, contact me if you're interested in purchasing - can be adapted to fit Unimig, Miller, Lincoln, Cigweld, ESAB or all other mig welders. TIG welding version coming soon
After using a MIG that had a built in pulse setting (for that type of mig work where you just lay down heaps of interconnected tacks) I've built a circuit board that adds that feature to my big old mig welder. Basically two knobs that let you adjust the on time and off time, and then when you pull the trigger on your mig welder gun, the device takes over and pulses for you until you release the trigger. It of course can be disabled, and the device becomes a bridge so the welder operates as normal.
Installation is easy, just cut the two wires to the mig gun in your welder, and screw them into the device via the terminal blocks (two in from the gun, and two out to where the gun used to go...) if you want to remove it you just need to reattach those two wires.
Power is drawn from the welder itself via a 5v USB socket, wired into the mains inlet of the welder. It can be drilled and mounted into the welder (my plan for my big Unimig beast) or put in an enclosure and sat on top of the welder, for a less permanent install.
I'm currently building a TIG version to add pulse TIG to non pulse machines, it will have an additional two knobs for top amperage, and bottom amperage, as well as on time and off time. (based on the single amperage control knob on the Cigweld 170hf TIG inverter, but transferable to all basic TIG welders without this function already)
Anyway - here is a video explaining more about the idea, and what it does - is this something that anyone else would find handy? Thinking about ordering a run of PCB's and making up a batch to sell if anyone else would appreciate it.
Hi Taylor, how did you get on doing the Tig version of this? I currently have an old transformer type 140 amp stick welder converted to Tig. It's AC only and just has a manual choke for current limiting. I've added HF starter super imposed via simmer coil. So at present there are no electronics at all.
On my wish list are pre and post gas flow, ad frequency, ac POS vs neg balance, main and background current, and ad/dc. Aswell as pulse duty and frequency. Any brilliant ideas?
I went looking for this because I though someone would have done it, given how dear pulse mig units are.
VERY interested in one of these if you are still putting them together, i need one for my eastwood tig 200 ac/dc
Hi Taylor can the mig pulse add on be made with weld current, base current function? This feature is most desirable for aluminium welding. Vertical up and over head welding also benefit
greatly from pulse welding.
this consider spot mig not pulse mig
That is a stitcher not a pulser. Very good job anyway. A true pulser is spray type welding. A manipulation of cc and cv.
possible to make this with a SCR diodes?
Good call mate, it is indeed a stitcher
Where Ill get this pulse generator
This just controls the contactor on the AC side not the current/pwm on the DC like a pulse MIG. I was looking at trying to use a 200A brushed speed controller to do this. V3?
Hi I definitely would like to purchase a completed unit from you. Are you still selling them?
Very cool!
It doesn't sound this thing has a base current. I think most pulse mig has the PWM signal but also a constant base current. Is this correct? Good job !
looks good
Hey thanks!
Still any chance of getting one of these or the code and schematic? Im still willing to buy from you as i dont have the ability or time to figure it out...... 🙏
Sure thing Brock! Send me an email (email in bio) and let’s chat about it!
this is awesome!!!!! is it based on arduino?
It sure is! There's a pro mini sitting on there
How do I purchase this
I email'ed ya to see if you would mind sharing the code, hopefully you recieved it
make one for my eastwood tig200 lol
Shoot me an email (taylorhayis at icloud.com)
i got Eastwood Tig200 AC/DC also, how did it go with your?
Is this available for purchase yet?
Shoot me an email (taylorhayis at icloud.com)
share file please sir
This get finished?
It's been living in my MIG for over a year now! I've quoted a few people up for making them one - but I don't think it will go to production
@@taylorhay can you send me a quote ? It would make my life much easier for my miller 130 and did you get it with adjustable background voltage ?

Hi Is this pulse kit able to generate low spatter with MIG
?
No - unfortunately that's a totally different type of Pulse Mig - this is more spot welding or pulse tacking
