Progress Report - March (Featuring Lamy Dark Lilac 2024)

- In this video I show and talk about how the 11 fountain pens and inks I'm writing with this month! I have had the fun of exploring a sample of Lamy Dark Lilac 2024 thanks to pen friend Marilyn!
Part of this video is my comparison of Lamy Dark Lilac 2016 with Lamy Dark Lilac 2024. It is by no means a complete comparison review but it's a beginning as to seeing some of the differences and unique beauty in each ink!

I enjoy watching your videos. I just started collecting ink and pens a few months ago. No one in my family really understands why I enjoy it, so I don't have anyone to share the love with. I glad to find like minded people like you.

I always wish we had a local pen club here where I live but don't so I'm grateful for the online community. :)
I'm relieved that there's someone else who doesn't like Lamy Blue Black. It's not vibrant enough for me. Someone generously gave me a bottle of it. Luckily, my daughter does like it, so I'll pass my bottle on to her. I DO love the new Lamy Dark Lilac. It's vibrant, flows very well, and the green sheen shows up fairly well. I've recently found an ink that's similar, that I need to buy. It is Colorverse Purple Cosmo. It's a magenta with a really bright, green sheen. I also love those new Colorverse Blue Dragon inks. I agree about limited edition pens. It creates too much angst. I hope you have a good day.

I'm recovering from a bad cold, so I spent a good part of the day watching a lot of your videos. I am new to the fountain pen hobby (I have several Jinhao's and just got my first TWISBI). I am currently putting together a list of ink colors I would like to purchase, so ink videos are very helpful. I really loved the Diamine Sherwood Green!! I think I tend to be drawn to darker colors and that one is beautiful! I am also a cat lady!! I have 3 of my own cats and 1 special needs foster cat (who will likely be joining my family because he has a LOT of needs). Thanks for the videos!

Hi @leannezzers - yes I have given this a lot of thought and I still resent limited editions even though I know technically and practically speaking I could save ahead for the occasional limited edition pen I'd like to get ... but for the most part I'm rethinking my entire mindset around buying things. LOL
@@ChrisSaenz13It's important to be mindful in spending. Yes I can save money for a rainy day but that doesn't make spending impulsively on an item feel better. I mull over buying things for weeks sometimes, which also doesn't work on a limited time frame.
Either way, I hope we'll always be able to get the things we want, and we enjoy what we have now 😅

Hi @Sonicman415 - the new Lamy Dark Lilac is very pretty - I love it ... the green sheen changes it's appearance from the 2016 Lamy DL but the new one is beautiful in it's own way!!!! :)

Hello Chris, very interesting mid point review, I have not yet been able to get a bottle of the new dark lilac ( but I will 😊) but from what I have seen, including your video I think that I prefer the new one. It seems such an interesting colour palette. All best wishes.
Hi Anne -- I was just so glad to hear Lamy was making this "Dark Lilac" as a regular item not limited edition!!!!!
You did a good thorough job. I have the exact color on the Black Purple Lamy Al-star. It has one of the Blue Dragon inks in it, that are limited editions. It is going to be tough because I like those inks so much. I guess I will have to find a substitute when it comes to it. I am not getting that Lamy purple, there are too many others that look the same.

Hi @tbayless8324 - I'm really not in favor of the companies making limited edition ink or anything else for that matter. :) Hopefully we can get some equivalent inks for the Blue Dragon ones ... which reminds me I need to make the tiles to send to Matt at Inkswatch.
I completely agree, push for marketing and make you spend. When I got into this I did not know the marketing for fountain pens and accessories was so deep and world wide. @@ChrisSaenz13
Given the dye that created the sheen is totally different--Lamy claims the red is no longer available--it is not possible for the new DL to shift to something resembling the old DL.
From what I've seen, the original DL was not oversaturated, with the sheen being somewhat incidental. The new DL, however, looks oversaturated, which means it might not age all that well.
I really don't get the buzz over either ink (it's ridiculous the NYT covered this nonsense) but to each their own🤷
Thanks, Chris! I appreciate the closer look at the Lamy purples. It does seem that the green sheen on the 2024 Dark Lilac does influence the color even in the regular writing. I have a full bottle of Diamine Pansy and I'm pleased with it.
Hi Marilyn -- I have noticed that on Graphilo and Midori paper the green sheen is just a little bit less intense. I have yet to try it one some papers ... Tomoe River 52/68 are my most used paper. I still like how original Lamy Dark Lilac from 2016 and Diamine Pansy look in terms of the purple better than the new Lamy Dark Lilac but it has it's own beauty ... in a way it remind me of Vinta Makopa in flow and Green sheen!!!!! :)
I like the Birmingham Sugar Kelp! The water brush really gives you another distinct color and looks great in the Lamy Bronze. Crazy controversy with the Lamy Lilacs!

Chris, really great review! I have become a big fan of the Sailor 50 States inks. Illinois is my favorite, but I also like Texas and Vermont (both of which I just purchased after watching your videos). They are all great inks!

You sure are crazy for purple inks.My favorite of yours this month is the Sherwood Green. I’m just about out of my sample of it. Time to get more.
Hi Kathy -- oh yes I have been a purple ink fan since before I got back into fountain pens even ... it used to be hard to find a good purple in just gel pens!!! LOL

The Sailor 50 States Vermont looks like a nice shade of green. Right now I'm partial to Diamine Sherwood green, so much so I got an 80 ml bottle. One of Diamines other green ink that I like is Woodland Green. Not sure if you've tried it, but it's not as dark as the Sherwood Green. I've also changed nibs in the X750 again. I got one of a pair of Kaigelu Long blade nibs in it now. I have to give it a little bit more time, but so far I'm not very impressed.
