I just came across your channel. I subscribed,it's like a history lesson ,or a tour every video. I am from the U. S. so I'm really enjoying seeing everything!
Wow, you do find some incredible places. Great to see this place preserved as well. If only they did this to more places like you said. I've been to a couple that I wish could be restored and re-opened but it's so rare for that to happen :(
Very nice old church. There's one very like this near to where I live. I was in there the other day and those old style pews with a door to get into them. So old. I don't think you get seats like that in the churches built after this. I would never have lifted the floor doors like you did. I'd have been scared to. Normally stuff like that is left to the deacons or caretakers of the church to lift. Glad there was no dead body down there. The second one - could that be a an old fashioned christening or baptising bath. OR a place to keep scrolls. Who knows. But the people who look after the church would know. Normally when a church is left open someone is sitting inside. Hiding away in a office up top or behind the organ or sitting at the back. But there was no one. Very trusting.
+telsah1 this place is fairly remote takes a good 20min walk form the nearest road maybe why it's just left, I would guess people regularly go it to maintain tho, thanks for your comments and all your support telsah 😊
The pews were of a type known as box pews popular in the 17 and 18th centuries, and the lozenge shaped frames with coats of arms painted on were funeral hatchments, bearing the arms of a deceased person.
beautiful video and great church. you guys didnt seem to know much about certain things tho. i would think since youre english youd know more about an anglican church. that area/room with the curtains wasnt a confessional. only catholic churches would have that. the 3 tiered pulpit is as follws...the lowest part was for readin the old testament lesson, the middle for the gospels, and the top for the sermon. you didnt even seem to know the Lord's Prayer (Our Father) when reading it. this si something even a grammar school child should know. has england become so unchristian that they dont teach these simple things any more? i am an american baptist and i still know these things about the church of england, so certainly you guys should, even if just a matter of your own history. the panels at the front are the apostles creed, 10 commandments and lords prayer. these 3 thing were required to be memorized before you could be baptized (if an adult) and also recited before taking communion. the apostles creed states what a christian believes, the 10 commandments remind of us of God's law and how we have failed to keep them (sin) and the Lord's prayer thanks God and asks forgiveness of our sin. this church was obviously built before the anglican church went into its "anglo-catholic" mode, when the church was more protestant in nature as far as ritual was concerned, as it has a "holy table" instead of a massive altar.

I went there in November last year (2018) with an American friend of mine. Truly amazing place..
