The Baltic countries are more or less ignored..
_most people don't even know what a Latvia is.._
Estonia and Lithuania are actually more known about atleast, mostly through the fact that "oh, that's the country that's next to Poland" or "oh, that's the (no offense Estonians) scandinavian wannabe"
And this is from a latvian, who had moved to England at the age of 3, and didn't realize I was from Latvia until I was 5, when my mom told me, where I eventually moved, when I was 6 to my grandmother's..
*and not even the teachers knew about Latvia, when I asked them about it*

I've cooked sakotis multiple times in cooking school and you have to have a special baking machine to make it. It can be made with either butter or margarine which gives it a different taste and texture sometimes. If you want to taste a real delicious one, I would suggest buying one from bakeries.

Hi, just watched your video, really awesome to see not Lithuanians try and explore Lithunia, i wanted to tell you what šakotis is, i didn't see if anyone told you so🙂šakotis is made like from batter, and you need a special like oven, stove to make it, cause you get like a poll and you drip the batter onto it why it's spinning and the oven bakes it while it's dripping that's why it's in that form, and as you said it's popular in Lithuanian weddings, so Americans have huge wedding cakes and we kinda have šakotis, well atleast we used to have, like a tradition, i don't really know now, but yeah so here it is, hope I helped🙂

I know you can buy good Lithuanian food in Ireland and England because they ship thruogh the sea,and ocean, air too.Guess what is the best food I loved Dadu ice cream chololade,or vanilla yammy, yammy .Cheese cake-- Dadu made from cheese.Well you see just buy won't be disappointed for sure.Another good cake I love Napaleon,or honey cake- medutis, translating from Lithuanian language very famous. Also the best beer try it Švyturys Baltijos alus- beer from Klaipėda port city..You know German people love it Kugelis a delicious dish from potatoes, and here in Lemont they make the best as far as I know .Our organic food is healthy and good. I enjoy a lot .I kind appreciate for what you done here for the world to see what Baltic people like to eat?

The only good "Šakotis" if the one made by small bakers, when it is still fresh and have different ingredients, those sold at supermarkets do not get close to the real thing :) well that probably goes for most of the products in most of the countries too...
You should def try "Sūrelis" these are unique in baltic regions, maybe Poland, other than these countries I havent seem them anywhere else. The URIGA ones are the best for my taste, those are the real deal back from the Soviet era actually, we used to make them but apparently they are made in Latvia now :)

Hey, so, you can make šakotis (shakotis) at home, well you can try, you need a batter similar to a pancake, need a fire and steel round rod over the fire. when the rod is hot you start to pour the batter on to the rod (while you are spining around the rod), go as many rounds to get a big one sakotis. Thats how you get a shape of it like this. you can find some video's of how its made in youtube if you want too.

I know I'm late to the party, but Šakotis is the thing you can make at home. Bit difficult, yet possible. it requires alot of eggs and you need to make this runny dough. then you have a hot pole that you spin around above the fire and you drip the dough on it. Consumes alot of time to make it, but I find home made much better than store bought
