Craig this is awesome. I worked for Ogilvy & Mather in Chicago for 13 years and treasured this video in their archives. Who did the Czech subtitles? Love these. I was born in Czechoslovakia.
Thanks Petr, glad you liked it. I have NO clue who put the Czech subtitles on there, and until you told me, I wasn't really sure what language that was, so thanks. Ogilvy rocks, for sure. I would have enjoyed working with him.
It is awesome what Mr. Ogilvy told about advertisement in eighties - almost all of his advises are still very important in marketing. He is immortal just like his campaigns.
new in copywriting here, took 3 introductory courses on udemy and skillshare, this video taught me more than the 3 of them in 1/4 the time, this guy is a LEGEND.
33:18 "Most of the work you do in the advertising business is routine maintenance work, but every now and then you get the chance to do something special. This is your golden moment. Cover yourself with glory, rise to the occasion, give it everything you've got.... Do this, and you'll never have to ask for a promotion or a raise."
One of the best things I've watched in a long time. I've been a fan of Ogilvy since about 1992. The tone of this video is so much better than the overly noisy videos you get today.
What i first learn and see after watching this man is that is like Bowie, he cares about creativity, thinking how to keep having or how ideas are develope or as the word says create something. Is interesting im trying to watch and read everythinh i can from him and Bowie.

The icon alongside the irreverent Bill Bernbach. His words are gospel to this day. I am making a decent living by following his career-changing advice. Thank you, Sir David Ogilvy. 🙏🙏🙏
Definitely an inspiration. Made me aware of my laziness, and that my laziness stems from a fear of success. So everyday I try to do something good and hit it out of the park. Thanks for putting this up. This was gold.
Watching this in Oct 2024. I read his book love great copy and admire this legend. Toward the end of his book, he lets lose this hatred of Billboards. I’m in the Billboard business for 20-years buying and building my own company from scratch and with no money. I still don’t have any money 😆 but I love great ad copy. I’ve told my youngest daughter is a film major and she is just now getting out in the real world. I showed her his book - I’ve collected magazines from the 1960’s- 1990’s and told her to master this book and tell the story through the bits and pieces all working together like a symphony… hopefully, she will pay the proper respect to what came before Facebook.
@@rabinrai5203 not only read the books but also take the time to search the ads on the internet. Many are on there. I went to goodwill here and for $4 I bought 20 old PSA airlines in flight magazines. Which is Chuck full of ads from 1970-1983 which is likely the greatest time in print display advertising in history. My problem now is I right great copy for my small business for display advertising long format … what do I do now - there’s no local newspapers or really magazines with real depth anymore… I’m not gilet so I have to figure out how to get long format to my intended market… I hate using the term “addressable market” I just use plain English. We need more plain English in our long copy.
What a beautiful, lovely character, really touched the core of my soul. Thank you so much for sharing this. I've heard David's name being mentioned so many times over the years, but I was not ready... My time has come to study anything I can get my hands on that this amazing person did. Thank again.
Interested to see the português tea commercial. Definitely, I gonna read all his books and videos, until get his perception of the world...🤯greeting from Luanda Angola 🇦🇴
What a Man ! A Man with values and character! Thank you Craig for this video! . I am into copy writing and I should say this video was jam packed with a ton of decisive insight!
What a humble and brilliant man. Never scared to say where he made mistakes. If Ogilvy were running an agency today, I personally think that he would be even more successful than he was in his day. His ability to constantly reiterate, experiment, and to adapt to constantly changing trends would be absolutely ideal in the Age of Innovation that we live in
I enjoyed every bit of learning from this clip. Very useful. And the reason to see this is because of a mention about David Ogilvy in the book Pandeymonium which I am re-reading. Its written by Mr. Piyush Pandey.

Czech--I thought it was Hungarian, or Polish, or maybe Turkish. (What do I know?)

He would have made a world record of Facebook and Instagram followers.

..díky za české titulky
It's ironic that hes the king of advertising but he can't say the word correctly. What a weird pronunciation 18:33
When I lived in Germany, they and the British pronounced it this way. I seem to recall they would also abbreviate it at times to advert, whereas we in the U.S. use ad.
