Great Video - was wondering if you or anyone else knew how to get his guitar sound to be used in Ableton? I have been trying to get it right for ages. Thanks for great Lesson Jacob!
Awesome tutorial! One piece of feedback. It would be amazing if you displayed the chords over the notes in the top right, I frequently found myself rewinding to find the correct chord shape. Thanks!
Pretty sure it does most of the time doesn’t it? I think I commented a link to my Google drive document for the part in the comments somewhere if you wanted to find that.
Mostly just a compressor pedal into a clean fender sound. But I have heard that he uses a Boss DS-1 with the gain all the way down and the volume further up like a boost pedal.
Quick question, is that the full loop? does it end at the end of that. I feel like there's a tiny bit more picking before it loops again. I could be wrong. Let me know if you see this!x
Yeah it wouldn’t surprise me at all, I just thought I’d give people the general just of how it goes, and people can fill it out how they like! Thanks for the comment!
What type of guitar do you play? I’m trying to get my first guitar and I’m stuck between deciding on an acoustic or electric, I would love to play songs like these, but at the same time I’d like to play some stuff from deftones like entombed, sextape, rivière, etc. would appreciate any help, thanks.
Yeah this is a Charvel, bit of an oddball for this style of music - it's an electric guitar. Khruangbin would predominantly be on electric guitars if that was the sort of music you wanted to learn. Not entirely familiar with some of those other bands you had listed.
@@dmc549 So the first chord is Gm, which tends to be a give away to what key it is in. My initial thoughts would be G minor, but they play a C chord at some point, which is NOT in G minor. They have altered the 6th of the scale from a Eb to an E to accomodate the C chord, making it G Dorian.
There's not much to go with, but the song mostly repeats the whole way with minor alterations. drive.google.com/file/d/1henLPC0g9pl5Rm5ZeQJQjX2nruMlJJAQ/view?usp=sharing
@@danethlong Well that's basically it, I'm anticipating the beat a little trying to jam them all in on time, but you just need to practice plucking each of the four notes with Thumb - Index - Middle - Ring and then work it into a roll slowly over time.
It's a beautiful song and progression that just BEGS for some modulation and tasteful solos. If there is one thing I could criticize about Khruangbin it is that they could make their music richer and more memorable with just a little bit more added to their songs.
I 100% know what you mean. I think it is a wider problem with music in general these days. A lot of focus on sounds, rather than interesting musical choices.
@@Nath-rg2qd yeah that doesn't surprise me - I guess I was focusing more on the key changes comment. A lot of their songs just kinda sits in the vibe and does progress much.
@@JacobWestTuition honestly, the tone is spot on. How’d you get it? My guess is distortion pedal cranked up a tiny bit and the neck pickup with tone knob low. Maybe some compression too? Not near my gear to test it out but would love some pointers if you remember
@@marchelou512 hey, I commented this earlier if you wanted to find that too. Honestly I wasn’t thinking that much about it, the Tech 21 Trademark 60 is a hard amp to get a bad sound out of.
Very glad you out the whole progression at the end as well!! Gear vid! Thanks!!
Thanks mate
thank you so much it's so accurate
Yeah no problem man.
Yeah man, nailed it. Thank you!
Too nice thankyou! Please do more Khruangbin 🙏
This was really helpful, thank you so much mate !!!
dang what a hard one for the fingers on the fretboard.. cramps ;D
You can do it!
The way you explained this makes it impossible NOT to get it right :) very clear and concise, thanks!!
Thanks for the feedback!

Hey thanks! I'm not sure sorry, I don't use ableton a whole lot.
Love it! super easy to follow. If you are taking requests.. A Hymn by Khruangbin.
I might be able to look into it, I won't be doing anything for the next month though.

Awesome lesson man, love this track. What guitar / amp and pedal setup are you using? Sounds sick! Cheers
I think I’m just going into the clean channel of my Tech 21 Trademark 60 with a Keeley Compressor
Thanks for this!
Ok, let's do it 4:00
Great stuff thanks. I have been working on Maria Tambien... Haven't been able to find a lesson on Pelota yet. I realize it is new.
Thanks! Yeah that's a cool one, I'lll look into it

Any tips on how to achieve the same tone? I am new to electric guitars

@@JacobWestTuition damn, is it achievable on Yamaha Pacifica?

My bad, it does loop from there! I was wrong aha! It goes straight back around for those wondering x

Oh I see what you mean, yeah it does loop back around, the melody leads back into the 9th on the Gm9

So then what scale or scales would work under this progression?
G Dorian

im super new at guitar and as simple as you've made this already (thank you) - i'm having some trouble following the plucking? any tips?
In what way? Just the mechanics of it? Or the specific notes?

No problem!!!!!!
What effects are you using and is there anyway you could be descriptive of the levels of those effects?
Guitar straight into the amp. Not sure what it is on the recording.
Sounds like a hair of a phaser.... that’s all I got lol
When I read the thumbnail I thought it said; How to play with gloves ....... ;-)
Is the original number played without a pick? Oh also, great tutorial! Thank you!
Yeah it would surprise me if he did, but I don’t know everything.
Would there be a way to play this with a capo
5sure. Just put a capo on the 3rd fret

@@riodany1 have a look at the boxes and pretend the 3rd fret is your nut

Horses for courses, but yeah, pretty much everything is.
Help me understand why you say the g minor is a beat and a half, but it’s only 1 and 2. Is that not two beats?
Yeah, the 2 doesn't have it's and, so "1 and 2" is how you would count a beat and a half. 1 + 2 + would be two beats.
Why can’t all tutorial be like this
Hahaha! Thanks man!
