I have to agree with Jade City. My expectations were set so high, and it definitely was more YA than I was expecting. Still excited to see where it goes in book two though! Illuminae files was even better than I expected, I just adored it and the audiobooks are breathtaking!
@@middle-earth-ashleigh It took a while to recalibrate my brain with the expectations for Jade City, we were definitely sold something different to what we got. But it was alight aye. Can’t wait to get back to Illuminae
Sad to see that you didn't enjoy Jade City very much❤❤. I've heard similar reviews about the prose used in the green bone Saga. One thing to note is that Fonda Lee writes in an eastern style storytelling where the prose is more exposition heavy, and the pacing is much faster. I hope you enjoy Jade War if you decide to read it 😊
Yeah I loved Fury of the Gods but there a lot of things that just bugged me about the characters. Without spoiling it, I just wasn’t a fan of the two antagonist POVs which were Biorr and Gudvarr. And yeah I thought the story ended way too abruptly and it just didn’t feel as satisfying as an ending like in FATF. But with that said I loved everything about the action and I can’t wait to see what Gwynne writes next!
Haven't read Greenbone Saga yet, most people with similar taste to me either don't like it or think its fine at best. I'm not particularly interested in gangster stories, and yeah I've seen the Godfather 😅 I acknowledge its greatness, just didn't do much for me. Been meaning to give Kristoff another go so it'll either retry Nevernight or Empire of the Vampire. He just tries a bit too hard imo. I haven't read Bloodsworn yet as I'm not wild about vikings (blame AC Valhalla for that one). I probably would've continued Bernard Cornwell's Last Kingdom or started Shauna Lawless' Gael Song if I enjoyed reading about vikings a little more. Dresden Files is a great slump buster.
@@thatsci-firogue For you I wouldn’t recommend any on this list. Empire of the Vampire though, that I think you’ll get on with. He made the improvements he needed to from Nevernight and EotV is something special. I may have to try Dresden one day
@@SpacedOutReads Fair enough. I do own the first books in all the above I've mentioned so I'm open to trying some (in some cases again) much sooner than others. Dresden Files is a lot of fun but as much as I hate to be that "oh just give till book x" guy, its true in Dresden's case. At least it was for me.
@@noname3609 I still had a great time with it, I was just sold something different to what I got. I thought it would be a bit deeper, with the characters and writing style. Definitely will be continuing the series
I don't know... Bloodsworn saga by Gwynne was a let down. Final book was the weakest of the series IMO. Too much action, and not enough character. Stuff just happens, and then it ends.
The idea of breaking a reading slump with a series is ridiculous. A reading slump is broken by something familiar and/or something short. Not thousands of pages of a trilogy. Come on man.
Not always, maybe you just haven't read anything new that grabs you, which is exactly what this list is about. I hadn't been able to stick with a new book for like 5 months, then I started the Gray Man series and tore through all of them nonstop.
