Im a painter for apartment complexes , they just have us prime it then paint over it, they only care about getting that lease signed plus first, last month's rent and deposit
I rent a basement apartment. It was never lived in before and had only recently been finished before we moved in. I got sick, staying sick, and didn't know why. I never thought it could be mold since the whole downstairs was new. I wasn't looking for it but I found mold in the area under the stairs, I use for a pantry, next to my bedroom. I cleaned it the best I could. I have 2 small dehumidifiers, one for each bedroom. I'm sick again. I don't see any mold right now but I bet it's in the walls. I have met the builder and had to deal with his shoddy work in this house. I think he didn't build this place properly. I feel bad for the sweet elderly lady who rents to us. She had the basement finished to rent out to help her pay her mortgage. I can't wait until we get our own place. I'm working on getting a mortgage.
Unscrew your vents! Especially the fan vents that suck air out of your home. Its usually layered in the fan because it sucks air out. Cut open drywall. You must redo the drywall that received damage or mold regrowth will occur with any moisture from cooking and taking showers. A dehumidifier after mold exposure will just spread mold spores all over your home. My son is allergic to Cladosporium mold. I had to represent myself in many rental properties. Check the borders of your flooring. The edges lift. You can also take your phone put on the flashlight during the night. Turn off all other lights in the home and air. Start video recording move your phone around slowly. If it looks like its snowing, you're in the middle of a mold infestation. Remove the vent covers if you see black specks on drywall and inside of vents its in your heating and cooling vents. If you see mold you don't have to get mold testing. The cdc or epa has never done testing to tell if a quarter size amount of mold or an entire wall of mold can make you sick. Indoor and outdoor molds are different. Indoor molds only occur when they have a water source feeding it. Mold air test are not recommended but if you would like to know what type of mold is indoors like whether if its Cladosporium or Black Stach. then do spot testing. Most air test come back negative in a full blown infestation. This is what I've done in apts not houses. But the same info I shared will work for a house. Record test in every room to see more or less where the water source is coming from like a kitchen or bathroom or ceiling. I live in PA where ALL our homes are deteriorated.
You folks better MOVE!!! We rebuilt a W Pa. 1910 home 30 years ago to modern standards. Frame up. All new systems, drywall, insulation, steel roof (5 layers rolled roofing), jacked up house for sill plate isolation ..... been a wonderful home/acreage to raise children . We don't A/C, we heat with wood in coldest of winter. ... good place. Deep soil, rich forest, mtn streams., ample water, COLD winters... . Mold IS everywhere. Its part of nature. Now lead paint, radon, etc....yes, BAD.
Man, you are dropping nuggets in this video. Living in Texas, I now realize this is a must have inspection before buying a home. I appreciate your level of detail.
There are UV lights that fit in your duct work and will kill mold continuously. We just built a new modular. We had a UV filter installed with the HVAC system. It wasn't much extra, about $700. Much cheaper than remediation!
If you find mold growing in your house get out of it get it fixed get it replaced but stay out I got so sick I thought it was going to die and only had pneumonia in one lung and I was in the house 10 days before I got sick. I hired a guy he was out there for 30 minutes he took three samples it was $800. Be sure if you're pulling stuff out and moving things around and you know there's mold in there please wear a mask.

"Bleach kills the mold it can get to. Most of the 'bleach doesn't kill mold' thing comes because bleach doesn't penetrate porous surfaces well. So if you have mold on wood, there's probably mold /in/ the wood and sterilizing the top layer of the wood won't do anything to the spores and mold underneath. Things like vinegar and hydrogen peroxide also kill mold, but do a better job of getting into porous surfaces, and are non toxic so you can do stuff like leave it sit on the surface for ages while it penetrates."
This makes me appreciate my house so much more. I have a 1940 Craftsman house and it was designed so well. There was clearly so much thought in how the house was constructed to avoid these problems. When we bought the house it was in excellent condition from years of a very smart owner that kept the needed maintenance to preserve its condition. ❤

What if your a renter and you have a problem . This is a mid 80's townhouse with two units per building built on a slab originally . This is in Maine . What are there for laws covering this subject ?!
I’ve just inherited a home my mother tried to destroy. I know there’s mold there. New roof, but there was water damage first. When a guy patched the bathroom ceiling upstairs, he said the wood was soft. In the basement, there’s been floods over the years, until my parents had a French drain and sump pump installed. But, they never thought about mold. Then my mother did a decorative stone treatment, along one side of the basement wall. In more recent years, as a hoarder, she just threw all kinds of crap down there. There is white mold growing up the wood paneling and white mold lifting up vinyl floor tiles in the basement. Tough to know what to do in this market. I have to escape my rental apartment.
Certain materials are a recipe to help create mold, especially in the southeast usa where it’s very humid. … sheetrock is one. Wood is the best insulator & it breathes. Yes, a dehumidifier is a great idea. Keep fresh air flowing thru home as much as possible too … it’s just healthy. Stagnant, unmoving air is a health hazard.
Thank you for the information. What exacting is a Title Policy? Is this the deed? How does one obtain a Title Policy if paying cash for a home/property?
I'm not an expert. PPE... personal protection equipment at the safest end will include full-body disposable suits, disposable gloves, booties, full face mask with something better than an N95 to breathe through... taking into consideration protection from the chemicals being used. Our ears are orifices, too. A top-tier pro will start by sealing moldy rooms/areas with plastic and tape. For each area, having a suit for just that area...removing it as they exit to not spread spores into non-moldy areas. DIY... at a minimum... long sleeve shirt, pants, shoes, N95 breathing masks, eye protection, hat, and disposable nitrile gloves... wash you and everything often. Expect you might be sickly for a few days and will want to do a basic body detox for a few weeks. Basic disposable suit multi-packs are less than $50 at major hardware stores in the US.

I genuinely dont know. However, my sister was able to get her kitchen treated for mold through home owners insurance. I think the home owners insurance is added into or bundled into the mortgage payment when you buy your house. Best of luck ❤

bleach does not work. It only makes it appear to be gone. It only adds more water to the problem.

Forced hot air heating may be cheap at first, but it's really a mold magnet!
Yea that house was full of mold. You can always remove return vent and test in the opening that goes to filter, that’s a hot bed too
And sellers can sell you a house and never tell you that there is or was mold in that home and they get away with it. There is no recourse.
