  • Parrish is dancing, his feet are a bIur
    Comes to a standstill,
    I ask him a question
    He doesn't hear
    Wurlitzer jukebox
Fingers are pointed in my direction
    Words fly around me,
    everyone's chanting

I roadied for them in 1980 on their short tour of Scotland. Not much lifting involved, however. Nice people.

this was recorded at the BBC Studios in Llandaff, Cardiff. The Damned also played in the studio and on the show. I know as I was in the audience.

Welcome back to RetroCountdown. Our single of the week is a double A side by post punk trio Young Marble Giants from Wales. "Wurlitzer jukebox" and Brand new life". This band is fantastic and deserve a go. The album these 2 songs came off is generally regarded as one of the best of 1980. They only put out 1 album. We like giving artists a go who normally wouldn't get it but deserve it, here on RetroCountdown. This 45 will be available from tomorrow for the special price of $1.50.
Day 6957. 3 x 3 x 733. Raw honey and all of my urine til 3.15pm then dried figs and sprouts and black grapes then more urine then fresh fruit and vegetables and other foods at 7.30pm. No change.

"Colossal Youth’ is the epitome of unique.
It is totally far out and cosmic.
1980 was a very special year for music.
Most of it is still more futuristic than anything released since 1980.
If you understand that then you are my type of person.
    "Music be all"
    "Music be everything"

I heard Younf Marvle Giants single “Final Day” on KALX in the mid ‘80’s and bought it and their 1980 album “Colossal Youth” while I was still a teenager, and in the decades since I’ve never met another fan, which saddens me.

Saw them at the Clarendon Hotel in Hammersmith in about 1980. Very stylish audience for what I assumed was a very DIY type band. Great gig. Hotel sadly demolished and replaced with a shopping centre not long after.
