Ah... Saxon made this cover in 1996, with Nibbs and Doug in the band, but the video is from when they played Top of the Pops in the early 80s. Probably playing Wheels of Steel here.
I don't know. Both bands are great!!1 It's hard to decide who's better than the other. Biff and Rob sing great live and on their records!!!! HAIL SAXON AND JUDAS PRIEST!!!!!!!
Yeah, me too... Once Saxon covers a good song, it becomes a Saxon song because they do it better than the original. Check out the new album Inspirations, just came out, eleven new cover songs, EACH one better than the original. Scarborough Fair was the year before, on Biff's solo album. Enjoy! Rock on bro.
Maybe they were made in the same Nazi lab ? They've been cloning humans since Nazi Germany. They have used gene splicing tech to create Monsters, Dinosaurs & Human/Animal "Martians" that look like the Creeper Hellion in Jeepers Creepers. From unknown lands & thru distant skies came a winged warrior. Nothing remained sacred & no one was safe from the Hellion as it uttered it's battle cry Screaming for Vengeance !!! I guarantee you the I11uminati will soon release 65 ft genetically modified Great White Sharks they'll call Megalodons. The Feb 11th Super Hez-Bowl-Ah is one day after the year of the Dragon begins on Feb 10th...Should be a terrible yr
great cover of the priest classic, saxon are an awesome band and should be huge , get out and see them in 2008 , they put on a killer live show ,you wont be disapointed.
How much of a tease is that intro man, imagine a saxon cover of painkiller.. although who knows if byff could pull it off, even Halford struggled with it live.
agreed Saxon had 4 top ten albums between 1980 and 1982 they were a very big band in europe in those days, and they pay a great hommage to the Priest here.
dont forget SAXON did this for the PRIEST tribute cd,,,,and its a great job too, just as many people aknowledge that some parts are better than the original, i dont think SAXON tried to top the original, just do a version and make it different, beleive me if SAXON wanted to make it even better they could because they are awesome musicians just like JUDAS PRIEST.
yeah its great, check out any of saxon's cd's ,try these , unleash the beast , killing ground , heavy metal thunder, lionheart, the inner sanctum , theyr all brilliant.
you right brother the lasts saxons almbums are better than judas or maiden albums for example. They are just absolute heavy metal and thats a fact you just have to listen to it
Priest revolutioned metal and made it was it is today, that´s why they are a little bit better. But Saxon is great too :D They allso got that heavy and kinda slow sound that I like and that´s Heavy Metal :)
Yes very cool version and i love the both bands very much Judas priest is fucking good band love them and Saxon is my all time favorite band i must say that Saxon is far moore better today if you compare them in the 80.s and Biff sings better today that he did in the 80.s they got better guitarist DOUG SCARRAT and NIBBS CARTER on base they are hell of a band today!!
they cover judas becouse saxon have always been fans of judas you just have to listen to the album the eagle has landed that is a live recorder in the end of "Requiem" you can hear biff saying "Judas Priest, kings of fucking metal!!"
Priests ,Sabbath, and other early bands helped create metal. Saxon and the others from the British Wave of Heavy Metal helped bring back its popularity. They're both important bands.
@zeramothian Incorrect. Saxon has been around almost as long as Priest. It just took them longer to get signed by a record company. But you can trace Saxon all the way back to the mid 1970's... which is around the same time that the first Priest album (Rocka Rolla) was released.
yep saxon has a unique sound and biffs voice is deffo stronger now than Halfords. Both legendary metal bands, Priest a little more for the mainstream fan perhaps...
@Tessmage - Sorry but you're wrong. Priest originally go back to 1968 and their first album was released in August 1974 roughly 2 years before Saxon were formed in 1976. Saxon's debut Album (Saxon) was in 1979.
@skepticalvision Saxon goes back to 1970 as Blue Condition and S.O.B, the 2 bands merged into Son Of A Bitch in 1976 and changed their name to Saxon in 1977-78. But Priest is deffo an early influence on Saxon. 2 great and important bands!
My only critique is that they should have just kept riffing into fade out instead of the big coda. The guitar work on that part was great and I’ve always wanted to hear that part for longer.
@skepticalvision No, I am not wrong. You are simply nitpicking over a matter of a scant two years. Priest has their ROOTS as far back as '68, yes... but we could say the same about Motorhead, or any number of other bands. I am starting my time line with the first albums released by the bands in question. Using that as a yardstick, my statements were essentially correct.
Both bands were strong performers. The original Saxon were a great band and blew UFO off the stage, but pre-Turbo era Judas Priest would have blown them off the stage. Priest had 10 more years of experience and were barely behind Sabbath in the creation of Heavy Metal, so that's no knock against Saxon. Currently, both Biff and Rob have kept their voices in great shape for their ages which is no easy feat.
20 years ago, me and my headbangin' buddies had a discussion about Saxon versus Priest. We were debating about which band would last the longest. I predicted that Saxon would outlast Priest. Let's see if that ends up being the case. I love both bands with a passion... but Priest is starting to run out of steam and as for Saxon, they're just as nasty as ever and still coming up with original and unique material that doesn;t sound tired and strained. Time will tell, I guess. Great cover, BTW.
This is the BEST cover I've ever heard of this awesome song. Saxon truely did a great job.
Saxon + Judas Priest = Heavy Metal at it's best!
Ah... Saxon made this cover in 1996, with Nibbs and Doug in the band, but the video is from when they played Top of the Pops in the early 80s. Probably playing Wheels of Steel here.
the two best heavy metal bands.
i totally agree! \m/
Iron Maiden as well;)
@@aleksanderslizewski4105 Yes but..... Biff and Rob still got most of their voices preserved, Bruce doesn´t.
I don't know. Both bands are great!!1 It's hard to decide who's better than the other.
Biff and Rob sing great live and on their records!!!! HAIL SAXON AND JUDAS PRIEST!!!!!!!
saxon will be always the best and this cover is great, biff is the best singer of the old wave at present
That was a remarkably good cover. Well done, Saxon.
This is the best fuckin band for a cover ever, love you SAXON, ROB woud be proud, great job my metal brothers.
my two great bands
I love this version ps in 1985 i saw them alive in Holland it wa a great concert i love the singer very much he has one of the best vocalist
Really didn't know Saxon covered this , excellent job as always guys ,if I had heard this version first would have thought this was a Saxon original .
Biff looks a little like Glen Tipton.
Agreed

A Greater band and a greater song, this awesome merge are here. Fantastic really.
Stellar!! Love Saxon! And JP is equally adored!!
Wow, this is a really good cover of the song, with a really nice ending to boot.
Very nice cover! It is also a great band!
Menuda mezcla ❤❤🎸🎸🤪🤪. De lo mejor 😮😮😮
great palying by saxon.
wish a lot of other covers were like this.
amazing cover
what a great video. saxon added their own style to it (as subtle as it was). i kinda wish they put this on a record.
dude I just have to say amen!!!!!! Long Live To The Eagle!!!! never surrender brothers
Great cover - it really hits the nail :-)
best cover of priest hands down. Would like too hear priest cover a saxon tune now.
Great job by Biff! Robb Halford is not an easy act to follow! after hearing this I have a WHOLE NEW APPRECIATION for Biff! \m/\m/
In 1985 i saw Saxon live in holland it was a great experience for me
Saxon did pretty good. Maiden, Priest, Saxon, Ozzy, and Def Leppard are the best British metal bands around!
Ozzy is not a band, Ozzy is a phenomenia and a train wreck.
Wish you would of played this in Wilkes Berra, Pa. Great cover..Glad you were touring with Priest in March of 2018..
Both bands are Great in there own right
im more of a priest fan myself since i was very young.
It takesa great band to do an epic riff like this nice one lads ..geta case of beer for this one!!!
I think. Rob. And. The. Boys. Would. Have. Been. Proud. Of this one. 💯
its is soo amazing perfect performance
agreed Saxon had 4 top ten albums between 1980 and 1982 they were a very big band in europe in those days, and they pay a great hommage to the Priest here.
nice cover of a classic pries song!!
dont forget SAXON did this for the PRIEST tribute cd,,,,and its a great job too, just as many people aknowledge that some parts are better than the original, i dont think SAXON tried to top the original, just do a version and make it different, beleive me if SAXON wanted to make it even better they could because they are awesome musicians just like JUDAS PRIEST.
same here. nice surprise. It's like Motorhead Lemmy's cover of ACDC's It's a Long way to the Top. i was expecting crap but they did an excellent job.
That was just Epic!!!!
at least this band never sold out in 40 years
nice Painkiller-esque touch at the start.
Biffs voive is so awsome, Saw saxon yesterday at Rock City \m/
I don't think Biff could sing Victim of changes lol or painkiller.
yeah its great, check out any of saxon's cd's ,try these , unleash the beast , killing ground , heavy metal thunder, lionheart, the inner sanctum , theyr all brilliant.
Great Cover!
I expected this to suck horribly, but to my surprise, it's actually a great cover. Cool!
this sounds really fucking good. i love the priest but these guys sound awsome and do justice to this classic
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!
my favorite Priest song done by Saxon... they are the man. both bands
I'm not a Saxon fan.
But I have to recognize it's a fucking great job!
Great stuff! I never heard they'd done this
love them both! ♥
This is an amazing cover just as good as the Priest one... well almost
SAXONNNNNNNN
the sound of saxon is great!!!!!But both are great.
you right brother the lasts saxons almbums are better than judas or maiden albums for example. They are just absolute heavy metal and thats a fact you just have to listen to it
Sound good.
best cover ever!!!!!
there is an unofficial CD called warrior king where you can find this and other rare tracks. Long live to the eagle.
Priest revolutioned metal and made it was it is today, that´s why they are a little bit better.
But Saxon is great too :D
They allso got that heavy and kinda slow sound that I like and that´s Heavy Metal :)

Indeed =)
I have to agree, this is the best cover I've ever heard. However, I cannot vote against Priest. Ever. For anything.
Good old metal will never die!!!
lml_ Ò_Ó _lml
I LOVE SAXON, it think it sounds good, but of course Judas Priest plays this song best!
I love Judas Priest, and saxon, but i gotta say this does sound much better, more heavy, and great singing
they cover judas becouse saxon have always been fans of judas you just have to listen to the album the eagle has landed that is a live recorder in the end of "Requiem" you can hear biff saying "Judas Priest, kings of fucking metal!!"
Priests ,Sabbath, and other early bands helped create metal.

They're both important bands.
I love both versions!
As a Judas Priest fan I can categorically say this kicks ass and is even better than the original.
@zeramothian

Searing levels of WIN!!
Awesome cover. Not going to decide which one is better tho.
Saxon metal gods
yep saxon has a unique sound and biffs voice is deffo stronger now than Halfords.
Both legendary metal bands, Priest a little more for the mainstream fan perhaps...
Fuck!!! great cover!!! \\mm//
Searing vocals on full throttle..created by drinking tigers blood!! heavy metal winning!!
Awesome
Sounds Like a Great Cover Band doing a Judas Priest Song.
@Tessmage - Sorry but you're wrong. Priest originally go back to 1968 and their first album was released in August 1974 roughly 2 years before Saxon were formed in 1976. Saxon's debut Album (Saxon) was in 1979.
@Schalke234 yeah they re both great...its just that saxon are more on classik rock and priest are more into metal..but they re both legends!
@skepticalvision Saxon goes back to 1970 as Blue Condition and S.O.B, the 2 bands merged into Son Of A Bitch in 1976 and changed their name to Saxon in 1977-78. But Priest is deffo an early influence on Saxon.

Не видел такого. Отлично!!!
My only critique is that they should have just kept riffing into fade out instead of the big coda. The guitar work on that part was great and I’ve always wanted to hear that part for longer.
Saxon is great but Judas Priest is the best because without the original there would never be the cover.
@skepticalvision

saxon or priest you got to be kidding me the metal god vs saxon alone takes them down. but awesome cover
🤘🖤💪
With that drum intro i thought they are going to cover Painkiller XD
very good. nothin else needs to be sed
Anyone know which album this is on? I've been looking forever.
Love the cover, just can't beat the original, though :P.
Super metalists
THIS RULES
I liked to Saxon
it's on a Priest covers album.
20 years ago, me and my headbangin' buddies had a discussion about Saxon versus Priest. We were debating about which band would last the longest. I predicted that Saxon would outlast Priest. Time will tell, I guess. Great cover, BTW.
Tessmage Well, Judas Priest is still alive and kicking today. They got new steam with Faulkner and Firepower
good cover but judas priest is the best ever!!!
gods of metal
Check out the firehouse version...fire
Oh yesss!!!
Oh God, my worst fear!! Saxon or Priest!! NOOOOOO!! I can't do it!! Vote for both.
JP gets a 10/10.
Saxon gets a 9.99999999999999/10
They can't be possibly better than the original. They are pretty good, though
