lost first time reaction
After the series watch the lost epilogue. The new man in charge. It’s a must. It’s only 11mins long.
Everyone telling you to watch an epilogue (New man in charge) and Lost Missing Pieces. I agree! But also watch an Orientation to Orchid Dharma station. Very short and funny. It's on youtube.
The journey, the people, the Island...no endings, just rewatches. 🌴❤🌴
We have to go back
Another great reaction Elie. Your commitment releasing these is much appreciated.
LOVE YOU ALL!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It’s pretty clear that as soon as Lost started becoming complicated, a lot of people were unable to make sense of it and tuned out. A lot of these people, instead of correctly attributing their loss of interest to their cognitive capacity, chose instead to jump on the bandwagon of “it’s the writer’s fault”. Lost wasn’t perfect, but when looked at overall it was an amazing vision which, I’d say 90% of the time got it right. You’ll find that a huge amount of the “critics” are unable to actually justify the criticisms beyond just regurgitating the same “writers made it up as they went along” which is incredibly easy to debunk in terms of the overall story.
Also "the writers made it up as they went along" is such a stupid criticism as a) All of LOST was pretty much entirely planned from the end of Season 3 and b) that is exactly how Breaking Bad was written and its considered the greatest show of all time by a lot of people (including me).
@@jxsh03 With a good staff of writers, you don't have to plan everything in advance, merely understand as a group how to not write yourselves into a corner and find innovative ways to use what you've done previously to build the story going forward. Better Call Saul also had the same strategy as Breaking Bad in that regard.
it needed more sex for the average normie to keep watching
@@jxsh03 of course there would have been things here and there which were consequences of spontaneity and re-imaginings etc, but the fundamental story was very clearly apparent from episode one: just listen to what Locke says to Walt.
Every Kate centric episode was a bad one, starting from season 1. Season 5 is the biggest flaw, it opened so many plot holes. If you don’t know what they are by this point, I can’t help you. Nobody can😊
Your so close to putting it all together, im so excited for you:) Are you doing anything special for the finale?
"your hairstylist abandoned you" 😭😭😭💀💀
The conversation between Jack and Locke is such a highlight of the season for me. Great acting and again the close-up facial expressions
That spark in your eyes when you saw Sun and Jin reunion 😂❤ haha classic
"You're hairstylist abandoned you!"
haha
I love that bit in Kick-Ass where he’s internally monologing about not wanting to die coz there’s stil so much he wants to do in life - “learnt to drive, see what me n Katie’s kids would look like….find out what happens on Lost…” 🤣
Shows how obsessed the world was at the time with this one programme
John Locke said it in the beginning. 2 players 2 sides one is light one is dark!
I finally watched the lost documentary, it’s actually pretty good! Provides a lot of insight on the thought process of the creators while they were making certain parts of the show, also very cool to see the actors talk about their characters and how they felt about certain choices.
So sad its coming to an end, but happy to have shared your journey. Lets go 😊
I dont like how quikly Sawyer gives up on Claire. Before she dissapeared he risked his life for her and protected her like a bodyguard, now he is not even talking to her.
Agreed, I also found that strange considering how protective he was of her in Season 4.
14:35 got me dying 😂😂
Another step closer to the end… let’s go brotha!
Been really enjoying the reactions to lost and I second what others have said about watching the 12 minute epilogue once you've finished the finale.
I don't know what your plans for reactions are next but two I'd like to see are the expanse and severance.
@richardmillington4130 ive seen the expanse i love it
This is where Lost starts
No thats where Lost ends
Great parallel...
5x13 JULIET: "Well... Here we go."
6x13 FLOCKE: "Well... Here we go."
MAN i'm on vacation this week and i'm surviving the great freeze of TEXAS lmao!! so i have 6 more days off work and awaiting your reactions is a huge part of my vacation. Yes, I'm a nerd. but aren't we all??
From what I heard LOST was originally contracted for 3 seasons with 25 episodes. They were writing it with broad stroke ideas of what they wanted to do but didnt have a plan yet. Then near the end of season 3 they had to negotiate with the studios and that is when they made what they called their master plan which detailed pretty much everything that would happen for the rest of the show.
They decided on an end point for the show (the studios wanted them to milk it for as many seasons as possible but they didnt want that) and they got the episode count reduced to get rid of filler episodes like Stranger in a Strange Land.
I dont know how much they deviated from that plan at any point during S4-6 or how much may have had to be cut (S4 being affected by writers strike for example) but I believe most of the master plan played out in the show.
Actually, it's 5 episodes and one epilogue to go. The last episode, titled "The End", is split into two parts of 50 minutes and 43 minutes, respectively. So they are two full length episodes. The epilogue is 12 minutes in length.
No one should watch the finale that is spilt up into two parts. That’s the edited one. Only watch the uncut, single episode finale.
The real finale is the uncut finale. It’s what we all saw when it aired. The two parts have missing content
@Ccg9024 when I saw the run time on IMDB, it seemed wrong. I remembered it being longer, just as you said. Probably should have checked the episode run times on my blu-ray copy instead. I don't do streaming, so didn't know there was an edited version.
6:58 - Anyone who makes the statement “The writers didn’t know what they were doing after season two.” Weren’t paying attention.
Yes, there was a strike. It was difficult for them to work around- and YES, they were extended a season longer than they initially planned. It was a network owned show, so the network had the last word.
Those things being said, they were always aware of where they were in the story and how they wanted things to end up.
As far as weather or not I believe that there is an episode I would remove, I’ll say this- The only things in life that attract attention are beautiful and ugly, we aren’t attracted to the in between.
This show never had any “in between” bland episodes. They were either beautiful or UGLY.
This show is a masterpiece.
The strike disrupted production in season 4, which was after Cuse and Lindelof had already negotiated their 3-season 48-episode deal. I think that people who claimed that the writers didn't know what to do after season 2 misunderstood what was going on. The episode Stranger in a Strange Land (the Jack tattoo episode) was the turning point for the showrunners. They were exhausting their methods to pad the show and needed a definitive end date to work toward, and the deal they struck with ABC was unprecedented. They got that deal while they were still completing production on season 3, so they were then able to set a time table and pace appropriately to break out the high-level arcs and themes for seasons 4-6.
2:22 He is lying. While chasing his "father", Jack almost fell off of a cliff. John saved him.
30:16 Same line that Sawyer told Juliet in "There's no place like home: part 3" (S04, last episode).
Agree with the first point, the monster wants Jacob and his replacements dead. But he can't kill them. But he could let them kill each other for water. So helping them survive would defeat his purpose. He must have really been Jack's father, in my opinion. Nothing wrong with Jack being able to see ghosts when they want to be seen. Not like Hurley, but enough.
@youtpfpm6097 I mean he was lying about finding water, but he did pose as Christian.
when you finish the series, you should go back and watch:
1. LOST Untangled (All Episodes)
2. LOST The Epilogue
3. Getting LOST Documentary 2024
4. Missing pieces. There’s a playlist here on RUclips of all the clips
5. Mysteries of the universe. The dharma initiative.
6. Lost: explained RUclips channel.
Let’s gooooo
Lost is not for everyone, many will get lost in a convoluted sciFi story line... Other like most of us here just love it...
Well said.
I love it but also recognize that most of the criticisms have elements of truth to them. For me personally, the show lost something when it went full fantasy and dropped the realism/sci-fi. With that said, I’ve still watched it 20 times, recommend it to all my friends, and watch almost every reactor. It’s a beautiful, frustrating mess and I love it like no other…
Yep. I feel bad for those who gave up on it.
Someone recommended you the epilogue after the end of the series, also please please watch Lost Missing Pieces, they’re short scenes from past seasons that weren’t included!
I was waiting until you got to this one. Some of the interactions between the characters in this episode were among my favorites in the whole series….Jack’s/FLock’s first, Jack/Sawyer on the boat…so great. Jack’s transition to a “man of faith” is solidified and one of the great stories told in this series. It was also cool to hear a little nod to Casablanca with Sawyer’s/Kate’s interaction in the police station: “Of all the gin joints, in all the towns in the world, she walks into mine,” of course, said in a different way “of all the cars in LA,…”
"Claire gave up her ticket when she tried to kill Kate."
Says Saywer. The same guy who was about to kill the man he said this to.
Elie - I don't want it to end 😢
All the LOST episodes were on a scale; of good and bad. For me, they all tipped the right way.
About the "Lost stopped making sense after season 3" argument:
That's why I'm someone that insist so much on the "Lost begins in season 4... seasons 1-3 are amazing prequels", so that people are not expecting that the show will be about the whole "surviving in a weird island and trying to leave" because then they get disappointed, confused, or just angry when they find out this is not the case.
On the other hand, this basically is not a problem when people binge watch the show, because it flows a lot better than when you have years to speculate and come up with wild unrealistic expectations.
Finally, I've also said before, that ratings show a huge drop in viewership from the first 3 seasons, and then it comes up again for the last season or for the final episode... and then people claim that the show didn't make sense (or worse, they insist on a clear misinterpretation of the ending), when there's millions that missed 3 seasons of the show.
Yes. S1 - S3 is just a prelude. :)) ❤
Jack, please don’t arrange a Will appointment during the same time ur on call. Ur meant to b spending time with ur son n goin for dinner etc. Is ther only one spinal surgeon in LA?!
Jack’s son wud 100% fancy his auntie Claire haha
New ep coming?
Bro did you take a break?
Man i really was expecting to felt more in that jin and sun reunion. They should have built the entire episode around that moment.. About lost having bad episodes, they do, but they have many episodes. Was other era of tv. They have more episodes per season and they didnt take 2 years to prepare the next one. You got following season the next year. So they did this with a pretty tight schedule and solving problems like strikes or actors leaving so it was almost impossible to close everything perfectly. They did a pretty good job for me. They started to build the entire show between season 1 and 2 but they didnt got an end game until second half of season 3 when they negotiated with abc the number of season. I must said that lost dont have any bad season finale, and they build all their seasons in a crescendo making each season finale an event. I dont see any show like that right now. Id liked breaking bad but not as much as this, some of their season finale were like any other episode, but they got steam in season 4 and they hit the landing. I think thats why it has such a good rep. Lost is the opposite, it has a reputation of having a bad ending, But because lot of people who didnt watched the whole thing tunned for the finale and didnt understand anything. Even george RR martin said about game of thrones "hope we don't pull a "Lost" and screw it up at the end". Well he did. Now game of thrones is the most famous show with a bad ending. After that he spoke more and clearly he didnt understood the ending of lost either. Its so weird what happened with the ending of lost, because it doesnt have anything special to understand. Its pretty clear. You can like it or not but its not that confusing. I saw many reactions to the finale, and i didnt saw anyone not understanding it, everyone loved it.
PAUSE 💀
Loved it, can’t believe it’s almost over… 🥲🫶🏻
Sawyer has taken the leadership role that used to be Jack and Jack has the blind faith role that used to be Locke
You're absolutely right about Twitter. These disputes do not subside to this day, the problem of a group of people who do not like this show is that they rely on a couple of phrases or some other small facts. Most of this group of people actually watched the series breathlessly, but for various reasons (mostly they didn't understand the ending) they started to find any reason to hate. And this has always been strange to me. You've been given a huge number of great episodes with brilliant acting, but you're only concerned about the ending or season 6. As an example, I strongly criticize "Game of Thrones" season 7 and 8, but the series itself gave great emotions and a lot of moments, I will never say that the show sucks.
Despite all of the above, I don't like the whole "war" theme in season 6, who are you intimidating with airstrikes? It's the damn smoke, it's not going to stop him. And these sound pylons placed on the beach, which supposedly stop the smoke? Can't he take them down or what? It all looks extremely silly.
Lost season 6 really does feel like Avengers endgame, from the slower start to obviously what's to come in the final few episodes
Where are you, my friend!? What happened?
1:48 Let me interrupt in the middle of a scene to once again talk about something I have been talking since this season started... COME ON ELIE!!! You know better.
I recently watched the Getting Lost documentary n was a bit disappointed tbh. Was expecting a reunion but everyone was pretty much interviewed alone n ther was a lot of negativity n seemed to focus more on the fans n random podcasters than the cast n writers itself.
"Lost Explained' RUclips channel has a great video about how much the writers had planned for since season 1. The Network were their biggest obstacles
"Lost Explained" is really good. But I've recently started watching different interviews with Damon and Carlton. Super interesting and very informative.
Show that never had a bad episode, I would have to say "The Good Place". Sure it had some "filler" episode on the last Season, but other than that, all episodes are just amazing.
That is exactly the show that came to my mind as well. The Good Place is a perfect little show... and in many ways, similar to Lost.

We also got to understand that Lost wasn’t some streaming show that went viral, or a HBO show with a smaller audience. It was network prime time TV. A huge amount of the audience was watching it as a Baywatch with fun mysteries. And as much as a lot of people got hooked on the mystery box elements of it, when Lost revealed itself for what it was - a sci-fi, time traveling, philosophical exploration of science and faith, character study show with intricate, out of order storylines - a lot of people jumped ship because it wasn’t for them. And it’s usually the same people who say that show went off the rails. When really it was when Lost got really amazing and interesting.
1st!
"Lost" really was the first show of its type. It wasn't your typical "turn your brain off" tv, which a lot of people were used to. And, there are just people that don't have the intelligence or patience to follow a show as deep and complex as "Lost", so they say B.S. like "the writers didn't know what they were doing" in an effort to cover for their own inadequacies. And there are those that persisted in watching - I call it surface watching, where they don't really concentrate on the finer details of the show, so when the finale came, it went right over their heads and they failed when they looked for simple answers to a complex puzzle, so they made up excuses.
The Temple stuff is the most boring part of LOST, imho.
I've always thought the same.
The first 3 seasons of lost, everyone watched every ep every week n talked about it through the week. Ther also wasnt ten million other series to choose from. After that, people started gettin into binge watching where they’d buy a dvd box set etc. So not everyone was focussed all week on the next ep coming out. N not every single person watched it anymore so there wasn’t as much discussion so people didn’t get answers to their questions so didn’t understand it so stopped enjoying it. Since it was added to Disney plus, a whole new group of people (like u) have discovered it and obvz are watching it in a oner and loving it, because They’r watching episodes in quick succession. People say the end was terrible because they forgot what kind of programme they were watching. They forgot it was a mysterious place that focussed on relationships and emotions at its core, and not a detective series that would result in a whodunnit answer.
Next episode is... explosive, to say the least.
1:34 That is not entirely true, it is true that Jack, following his father's ghost, helped him find water (the caves). The first thing he did was take him to a cliff where he almost fell and died and it was Locke who saved his life. PS: I'm ready for the next episode.... actually I'm not ready
The comments praising the writers and claiming the audience was "dumb" in here are crazy. Let's take Walt for example. They clearly intended for him to be a central part of the island mystery. He and Michael got written out with the excuse of Walt's actor being "too tall"...in a show that has freaking time travel and supernatural elements and could have easily explained that away. Jin e.g. could've had way more plot development in the Dharma arc, instead he's just there, same with Sayid in the temple arc. The non-white characters get written out or sidelined in favour of what...more love triangle stuff, even more of Jack? The "hero" who is shown to be an egomanical stalker and is so obsessed with Kate that even the tiniest slight from her drives all his actions in the series? No, Lost is not perfectly written, neither was it perfectly planned out. You can still enjoy the series or you can criticize it and call it out. The people in here acting like the writers are beyond criticisms are delusional.
They gave the Walt special storyline to Desmond. It's better to have a man rather than a child step up to the big storyline, so they wrote Walt out.
They did have Walt appearing older and taller as part of the storyline anyway in the season 3 finale. That was Walt moving in time and space from the future to keep John on his path to his destiny.
Why are you making it about race? LOST was one of the first primetime TV shows to have such a variety of cast members and race was never an issue or a subject. I know that Michael's actor asked for more in terms of scenes and storylines and I would agree.
To me, there was only one bad episode in LOST and it's coming up in a couple of episodes. Across the Sea. It's the only episode I skip during my annual re-watches. Give me Stranger in a Strange Land, Expose, Fire+Water...those aren't bad compared to the Across the Sea episode in this last season. It was just for the fans who were interested in the mythology. A waste of time. But besides that, don't pay attention to the haters online. I have friends who still bash LOST and I pay them no mind. True LOST fans get it - this show changed alot of lives. For me, it changed the way I look at the world. And it will always be my #1.
Across the sea was a polarising episode. Half of fans didn’t like it n half LOVED it. I was one of the ones who loved
LOVED Across The Sea myself! 🥰🌊
I hate you Zoe! How dare you ruin a long 3 year awaited overdue reunion of Jin and Sun! When I first saw that I got so pissed Zoe! 😡 Im not ready for the next episode!! 😥
Next episode is going to be rough….😔😭
I'm beginning to get a little melancholy now, coming in to watch you with these. Knowing you're almost done. But also, anticipating seeing you with my favorite ep (the penultimate) of the show. Even woke at 3am, and while tryna get back to sleep was thinking of you watching certain things, in that ep and the finale. My heart's way too into some of these characters. 🙄🤣
I can’t stand Zoe. Or the “great value Tina Fey” (or Velma). Her and dough boy. Easily my least favorite characters.
Bro the next episode…
Yeah, people are like this - they love expressing oppinions based on others' words without even having seen what they are expressing oppinion about ))) Lost is not a simple show, and by far not a one-time watch. And Elon's 'Oppinion Makers" are deffinitely the last people to rely on )))))
I love lost as much as the next guy, but I cant even try to manufacture an argument to defend fire+water as not a bad episode... Stranger in a strange land I could try to defend, but that ep in season 2, sucked
Prepare yourself for the next episode….
The only show I've watched that I can say has not a single bad episode is 'The Leftovers', which I still consider my favourite TV show from this century.
Yep, the Leftovers is a masterpiece.
YES so good. And some of the same writers as lost
Wow that overlay is so obnoxious, was fun watching 5 seconds of this reaction
This comment section is an echo chamber, and your unwillingness to poke your head out from it is scary.
claire's hair is fine for someone lived on island for 3 years. :D no need to drag her.
Only expose and stranger in a strange land not great episodes but other than that
Here's how you know the Lost writers had the plan from the beginning. In season one, Locke seems to know where to go and what to do at all times. He's not afraid of anything. And he's doing what? Recruiting. By two thirds of the way through season 1 Locke had recruited Charlie, Walt, Michael, and Boone, and had made inroads into recruiting Shannon and Jack. Then, as soon as the show got super popular and the writers knew they were getting more seasons, all of the sudden Locke stopped knowing everything and stopped recruiting.
Skip ahead to season 5 and 6. Locke seems to know where to go and what to do at all times. He's not afraid of anything. And he's doing what? Recruiting.
I believe that if the show only got one season they had set things up so that Locke could be revealed as being dead the whole time on the island (which is why he could walk now) and had been replaced by the Smoke Monster. The season and the series would have ended with fake Locke getting someone to kill Jacob. Once the show got renewed, the writers shifted that plot line ahead 4 seasons.
If this sounds wild, go back and watch every Locke scene in season 1 up to episode 19 and tell me it doesn't feel like Season 5 Resurrected Locke. Then watch the shift in his character starting with episode 20. Its so obvious.
