3:55 Namibian panahandle is shown to have been created in the initial conference, however this was actually gained after the British had seized Rhodesia and the panhandle was a way for the Germans to reach possible river fronts to access the Indian Ocean. This was in exchange for transference of claims to Zanzibar which is still shown highlighted. No mention either of the Moroccan crisis during which Kaiser Wilhelm spurred Moroccan independence movements, but was later resolved with the seizure of more land to expand German NeuKamerun. The Belgian Congo was claimed by Leopold earlier than the Congress. But is still a good video. Earned a subscriber.

Very educational video. I'd have liked to see the focus expanded beyond just "European" colonization to highlight the Ottoman and Omani involvement in colonizing Africa as outsiders. One could even start very early with the Phoenicians, Greeks, Persians, Romans, Vandals, Alans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Pisans, Genoese, Sicilians, Aragonese, etc. Even the Russians (at Sagallo in Djibouti) and the Austrians (at Delagoa Bay in Mozambique) attempted to get in on the action. Also, the statement that "European nations are no longer present in Africa" toward the end is not completely true: Spain still holds Ceuta and Melilla in North Africa, while France still holds Mayotte and Reunion off the coast of Madagascar. Technically Diego Garcia (UK), the Canary Islands (Spain), and Madeira (Portugal) are also Africa.

You misspeak at 0:59. I think you meant (and it would be right) to say the late 15th-century Portuguese sought to participate in the profitable spice trade rather than slave trade.
It really changes your perspective when you realize that Europeans really started to colonize Africa only 150 years ago and first colonies started to get independence only 30 years after that, while America was colonized for centuries
The first European colony was actually in Africa when the Portuguese seized ceuta (part of spain today) from the muslims. The Americas were just prioritized.
On the map colonization is gone, but when you look deeper into Africa, you can see that all over Africa there is stil a form of colonization. All the big and rich countries are still stealing resources from most African countries, and only 1 country was able to break through that colonization for couple of years, its Tanzania, but the president some time after he decided he is closing gold mines for France, UK and USA died out of mysterious reasons. That's correct, although it was what happened "practically".
