You missed one, South Africa produced and tested nuclear weapons in 1988 and upon request if global super powers, dismantled them. Being the first nation in history to disarm all nuclear weapons peacefully
Gotta love how, in less than 50 years, humanity went from "Wow, this thing leaves a trace on a photo plate. That's pretty interesting!" to "Big energy bomb go boom and win us war!"
@April 2089 Technically Einstein didn't want to give the knowledge to anyone who would use it to make bombs but he feared the Nazi's would figure it out from his notes and so was pressured into giving the US the knowledge by circumstances. At the end of the day Einstein despised warmongers and such people as would be of that ilk, going so far as to call them reptiles
Good video, would have been good to add the South Africa actually produced nuclear bombs, in addition to a nuclear power station in Cape Town and was the first country ever to willingly disarm their nuclear bombs giving rise to the Nuclear Non-proliferation act sometime in the mid 90s
I like how it fails to mention the fact Ernest Rutherford split the atom first, I was excited for about a second when he mentioned him but that soon came with the realization that no one cares about New Zealand. He did it in 1918 if anyone cares. Also found out about how he fails to mention New Zealands role in the preventing Nuclear testing in the Pacific and creating a Nuclear exclusion zone around New Zealand.
@Issa Latar I understand that but splitting the atom is a fundamental element to how nuclear fission is achieved so leaving that sidelined is pretty notable but I know that whatever I say won't affect the video so I don't care too much.
Very good video! Just one correction: Chernobyl did not have a containment building around the reactor, just a normal industry building. That is why Three mile island accident was contained, because it had a containment building. If Chernobyl had a containment building too, it would not had contaminated the place with its radiation.
But there is one difference between 3MI and Chernobyl... 3MI didn't explode because of a design fault in the reactor unlike Chernobyl Reactor #4 even if it had a containment building the explosion would have blown it to bits
I think that the initial explosion from the chernobyl reactor would have also blown through any containment building around it. It was a massive explosion.
@@jamisongarrison1972 the initial explosion was only just a steam explosion, yes granted it was strong enough to lift off a 10 tonne lid, but wouldn't have been enough to destroy the building
Exactly what I wanted to say, this really displays a wrong image of the whole sovjet situation which had cheaper reactors and thus resulted without extra failbacks in the catastrophy.
I believe that some crucial details were left out on the Manhattan Project, most notably that the US, while leading the Manhattan Project, did not have the UK join immediately, and in fact "In July 1940, Britain had offered to give the United States access to its scientific research, and the Tizard Mission's John Cockcroft briefed American scientists on British developments. He discovered that the American project was smaller than the British, and not as far advanced." It wasn't until mid war that the project was increased exponentially, and the British "Tube Alloys" was absorbed into the American project.

Very nice summaru of nuclear power. Weapon facts I missed: - South Africa nuclear weapons - NATO nuclear weapon sharing - USSR countries formerly possessing nuclear weapons
fun fact: in italy there was actually a conference if they shouldve built reactors to produce energy, but as this happened after the chernobyl disaster, most of the people voted no and so theres no nuclear reactors in italy.
Actually there were already 5 reactors in the ‘70 and Italy was after USA and Uk for production. After three Mile Island some plants were stopped to improve controls and after Chernobyl the referendum results closed the nuclear power on Italian territory. A plant was not finished yet. However we are still managing the radioactive waste. That’s the main issue with this technology.
General: Mr.President, the Japanese won't surrender President: Okay, how do we make them surrender without invading them? General: Nuke 'em President: Okay, how many? General: TWO
More like: President: how many? General: one *first bomb explodes* President: they still don’t want to surrender General: alright fine, two *second bomb explodes* Japan: *surrenders*
More like: USA: Japan has offered to surrender. Great! But before we accept, let's drop a nuke on a couple of their major population centers, that we avoided bombing, for the sole purpose of seeing what happens when we explode them on pristine cities full of hundreds of thousands of living people, (mostly women and children since the men are away in the military). That ought to scare the Russians.
12:57 The reason why the waste has radioactivity for a long time is because only 5% of the energy of uranium is used, the fourth generation reactors take advantage of 90% of the energy decreasing its radioactivity 100 times. There are also breeder reactors that can convert their waste to fuel, however it is very expensive and as high level waste is not much compared to other waste and the following reactors will produce waste with less radioactivity than is necessary.
So this problem was started by the USA. The USA first had the bomb, then the USSR, then the uk, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel, North Korea...And who complains about having nuclear weapons? The USA. Why the USA should be allowed to have nuclear weapons and others, like North Korea don’t? We should all have them , or no one. If the USA didn’t develop the nuclear weapon, we would have a safer world, so thanks usa👏
Oh hun, we helped end WWII when the Japanese didn't surrender. They were doing horrible stuff and wouldn't back down so we nuked them. I'm glad the USA has nukes now because there are still threats out there to the USA that would hurt millions of people. So no, I do not think it is a bad thing we have nukes they have allowed the USA and Europe to develop and become stronger. Plus, as sad as it is, nukes have also prevented many potential wars from breaking out between huge superpower countries. So no, the world would not be a safer place without nukes. How many bloody battles between huge countries would have occurred over the years without that fear? Plus, if a nuclear war does occur then it's already too late and everyone seems to know that. So, who knows? Maybe in a few years that might change. However, I am glad that we have the power to defend ourselves and that the allies, with the help of nuclear power, managed to take down the Axis. Also watch the video, it was the Europeans who truly began research on nukes not the USA they were just able to finish the research. -Also North Korea does have nukes and there is nothing we can do to stop them from having them.
EchohArt But in today’s world, the USA complains about other countries having nukes when they have them for over 50 years and are the only country that have used them
Finally a video that Credits the UK and Canada as massive partners in the Manhattan Project. ( Britain handed out all their research to the US upon joining the project ) *they were already in the process of trying to create a Fissile bomb
I remember that Argentina during the 80s was developing a nuclear missile after Malvinas war was cancelled, later in the 93s a ballistic missile was being developed due to international pressure, it was canceled, since they did not want an arms race in South America, especially because in Argentina there is a great hatred of the British although we are not a threat to them, We literally give people money instead of giving them jobs, which generates a lot of budget deficits, besides being quite corrupt, the money disappears in 15 seconds.
Allied view: After the Japanese Empire REFUSES to surrender unconditionally... Japanese view: After the Japanse Empire refuses to SURRENDER UNCONDITIONALLY
You missed something. South Africa produced their own Nukes in the late 70’s and destroyed them themselves in the 90’s. This makes South Africa the only country in History to voluntarily destroy their nukes (which they produced by themselves)
did this channel get hacked? Its changed to binance exchange and its playing stream on loop with suspicious looking links. Either the owner sold the channel, or it has been hacked.

Nice, but you missed out on South Africa's interesting nuclear history: they successfully tested a bomb, were known to have a handful complete and yet completely dismantled all of them- the only nation so far to do so.
vins0r - Looks like he’s not the only one, since this has happened to similar YT accounts with a size like GeoHistory. My theory (based on what’s going on) is that either he clicked on a bad link in his email/internet browser which led to a phishing/malicious website/ransom ware, and the hackers made their way to the channel, and changed their name to Binance Exchange. Most likely GeoHistory and Binance aren’t related in any way, and maybe Binance & the hackers aren’t related in anyway too. @April 2089 Technically Einstein didn't want to give the knowledge to anyone who would use it to make bombs but he feared the Nazi's would figure it out from his notes and so was pressured into giving the US the knowledge by circumstances.

you forgot about south africa the only country to have succesfully disarmed it's nuclear arsenal
Good video, would have been good to add the South Africa actually produced nuclear bombs, in addition to a nuclear power station in Cape Town and was the first country ever to willingly disarm their nuclear bombs giving rise to the Nuclear Non-proliferation act sometime in the mid 90s
The white minority apartheid government just didn't wanted to hand over this nuclear arsenal to the black natives.

Just one correction:
Chernobyl did not have a containment building around the reactor, just a normal industry building.
The core itself never blew up at 3 mile island; the building it was in had nothing to do with it.

Wow he actually mentioned the American missiles in turkey, good job 👍
fun fact: in italy there was actually a conference if they shouldve built reactors to produce energy, but as this happened after the chernobyl disaster, most of the people voted no and so theres no nuclear reactors in italy.
General: Mr.President, the Japanese won't surrender
President: Okay, how do we make them surrender without invading them?
General: Nuke 'em
President: Okay, how many?

More like:
President: how many?
General: one
*first bomb explodes*
President: they still don’t want to surrender
General: alright fine, two
*second bomb explodes*
Japan: *surrenders*
More like:
USA: Japan has offered to surrender.
For the US Japan was just a test ground for its 2 varieties of nuclear weapons. It was those innocent civilians of Japan that suffered
Here's to 2020's Nuclear Technology making incredibly efficient reactors unlike anything seen by the first reactors in the 1950's and 1960's.
Oppenheimer: makes nuke
everyone else: YOU JUST STARTED A TREND
They left out an important event. In 1989 South Africa became the 1st and only country to surrender its nuclear weapons arsenal.
Finally some1 says the truth
@@echohart3612 the soviet union would have done that too
@@skytornadi3384 Ehhhh idk who knows. Maybe? But in the end, it was the US who did it not the Soviet Union.

Finally a video that Credits the UK and Canada as massive partners in the Manhattan Project. ( Britain handed out all their research to the US upon joining the project ) *they were already in the process of trying to create a Fissile bomb
yes
I remember that Argentina during the 80s was developing a nuclear missile after Malvinas war was cancelled, later in the 93s a ballistic missile was being developed due to international pressure, it was canceled, since they did not want an arms race in South America, especially because in Argentina there is a great hatred of the British although we are not a threat to them,

vins0r - Looks like he’s not the only one, since this has happened to similar YT accounts with a size like GeoHistory.
