Is it, I thought he took his time and was expansive, my grandfather who served usually got though the entire thing in about 9 minutes , with the story seemingly needing to take 15 (him leaving things out) lol . He touches on about 90 percent of the things here. I’d say he’s about halfway between this vid and a cotton hill lecture 😂

Kinda....I mean Switzerland was technically neutral but Germany forced many trade deals and policies that Switzerland had to accept, so it was becoming de facto puppet state until the allies had the upper hand. Plus Switzerland shot down and killed like 30 U.S. airmen during the war.

Let's not forget Alan Turing in Britain (Bletchley Park) at the time decoding the german radio transmissions (watch Imitation Game) and strategically choosing which battles to win so as not to draw suspicion. As Joseph Stalin said, WWII was won with British brain, American brawn, Russian blood.
The Netflix series “WWII In Color: Road To Victory” fifth episode “The Invasion of Italy” goes into a lot of detail about that now overlooked part of WWII. It even questions why America & the British Commonwealth bled so many resources fighting to take Italy. Rome fell the day before D-Day in June 1944 but German efforts to hold central & northern Italy for months afterwards turned the European theatre into a three front war for Germany that became nearly impossible to win.
The Italian campaign would've been a desisive victory if US general mark Clark had obeyed an order to cut of a German retreat, instead he went for glory and took Rome

4:00 It seems like you’re saying Hitler is placed as head of government because of a 1932 legislative election. I know you’re trying to summarize this part quickly, but I would have said he was appointed Chancellor first, then head of government after a crisis, to avoid making it sound like it was a democratic process.
Yeah, that did come off as an incomplete description. Hilter manipulated his way into power by using the mechanisms of the democratic government to nullify itself. Obviously hard to condense into an 18 minute video, but it could be clarified a bit more.
For those wondering:
Petain was put on trial for collaboration with the Nazis,he was found guilty and sentenced to death.
His sentence was commuted to life in prison without parole on account of both his service to France during WW1 and his age.
He was stripped of all his military honors other than his title as Marshal Of France.
As De Gaulle said of him:
"His life was successively banal, then glorious, then deplorable, but never mediocre"
The scale of this war us just mind boggling. And the speed with witch the countries rearmed themselfs and responded to threats (in matter of months) is just incredible.
Do remind yourself that this war was not over a few months, but 6 years. Think about all that can happen in year. Think about all the time. Not all that time, from September 1939 to September 1945, is filled with devastating and constant war. This war had fast battles, but was a long war.

Slovak State was a facsist dictatorship and still today, in modern Slovakia, we have a political party in parliament which is fascist and it is completely legal, since they “aren’t” a threat to democracy.
I mean in 2020 over 9% of population (5,5 Million) elected this Neo-nazi party.
It is called Kotleba - People’s Party Our Slovakia.

We just used this as an overview for our homeschool WWII study. It was excellent! Thank you so much for the work you put into this! The kids followed along on backline maps, color coding as they went. Took like an hour cause we kept pausing it. :) Everyone was engaged and interested.

Mongolia was in USSR’s side since 1939 clash with Japan at its border, and Mongolian Peoples Army took part in liberating Inner Mongolia, which is north east China. Also, Mongolia was supporting USSR with supplies such like food, warm clothes and horses etc from the very beginning of German’s attack to USSR.. So, Mongolia was in alliance’s side during the whole time of WWII.
Mongolia didn’t officially join the war until 1945 it clearly was on the Allies side but saying it was in it is the same as saying America was in the Allies in 1940

You forgot that Czechs and Poles, after being defeated by Germany, fought in the West, among others, in the French campaign and the battle for Britain. In 1945, almost 200,000 Polish soldiers also took part in the Battle of Berlin...

Quick fact about the civial war in Spain: Hitler, intervened in the Spanish Civil War after Franco seeked for his help. Establishing fashism in Spain would serve his interests in expanding in Europe. Besides, as he was developing new weapons and war tactics, he saw the Spanish civil war as a great opportunity to test these "live".
The civil war had one of its bloodiest battles in Guernica. Picasso drew a huge painting called "the battle of Guernica".
I remember they teach you this fact in school, my history book even had that picture

Franco, leading the Nationalists, sent a plea for help to Hitler, who, seeing the opportunity to gain an ally or at least a friendly government in Spain, of course agreed. The goal here was to make sure that there is no French-/ Sovietfriendly government ruling Spain and also to secure access to Spanish resources.
Same goes for the USSR who simply tried to gain a socialist/ communist ally or subject in the Republicans.
5:02 to be fair resistance and guerrillas lasted only until 1939, that's because the Italian committed massacres that pacified the population until the British arrived in 1941

The English historian John Keegan once said the following phrase: "Brazil the forgotten ally". This map reproduces exactly what he said. Brazil declared war on Germany on August 22, 1942 and participated with the Americans with its navy and bases in the South Atlantic campaign in July 1944. a fighter squadron, the first fighter group joined to the American 350 squadron. In combat on the Gothic line in northern Italy between 1944 and 1945, it then dominated all of northwestern Italy capturing Turin at the end of the war and advanced to Susa on the French border.
After the war Brazil was one of the founders of the UN and until today opens all the speeches being Brazil responsible for creating the state of Israel in 1947.
But on the map Brazil appears completely blank !

It's easy to explain the Germans after February 1945 were fleeing the Soviets in the east, the Americans and British in the west and the Americans, Brazilians and British in Italy because they were losing the war.
In Norway the Germans didn't run because nobody was attacking them.
Partisans were present and pretty active in Italy, too. The post-war political scenario in Italy had its roots in the resistance against fascism and german occupation...
This video on the Geo History channel should be a recommendation for International Relations students or anyone interested in the history of World War II. I say this because after watching for 23 minutes 54 seconds, I found various advantages contained in one video. I saw that the complex World War II can be presented in a simple, coherent and detailed manner through the Geo History channel. Not only that, the use of a world map as a process of describing the events of World War II actually makes it easier for viewers to understand, from the beginning of the causes of World War II to the consequences of this war.
Thank you for mentioning Canada in the invasion and battles of D-Day. A lot of documentaries forget our part in the play..

Canada just hit juno Beach and it wasn't really anything compared to what the American went through on D Day. Canada just pretty much walked onto the beach unopposed. The Americans get most of the attention because they had the most casualties and juno beach in comparison was a Sunday stroll.

It's crazy how the largest party to the war in asia, China, is not even mentioned. They single handedly held off the vast majority of japanese forces while the rest of pacific asia fell.

I remember my grandfather (RAF photographer) retelling the day he first saw German scouts and advance attack planes flying down from the north over Greece. Two weeks later they were evacuating!

Kinda forget the Frissi people who are now the Dutch have existed and were their own tribe since before even the Romans arrived. So he thought the Netherlands and England (both descendants of the Frissi people of which many are still alive) would happily join the union. Just liek Austria used to be part of Germany aswell.

There were tons of war that germanic and Nordic eventually all just got their own nations. Like be happy over 50% of these two groups live in Germany alone. Nope was the answer apparently, we were lucky England was founded on an island so they could hold out and we all had a plce to flee towards and regroup at.

Small Correction, I'm Pretty Sure That "Blitzkrieg" Was Not New But Only An Addition, To Clarify; I'm Confident That The Prussians Used Same/Similar Tactics In The 19th Century. The Only "New" part of Blitzkrieg Was The Addition Of Armored Vehicles Like The Pz.KmF.Wgn 2 & 3. But Do Not Quote Me On This Because I May Be Wrong.
Edit: I Know That The Big Part Of Blitzkrieg Was It's Use Of Fast Tanks And The Air Force, I Am Just Saying That It Was not A New Thing.

Война с территории Финляндии почему то велась только возле Ленинграда, а про то что немцы на севере рвались к Мурманску вообще ни слова.
Но что больше всего убило - то что у все завоевания Японии сохранялись до 1945 года, что совершенно не так.

@crassgop yeah, but this may cause some people who do not know the borders of the rhur and Rhineland, Historically, both were occupied, but for non-germans (except me since I'm non german and know) may not know the rhur and rhineland are not the entirely same entity.

The voiceover is too impressive, accompanied by the music behind !! If you don't have any video ideas, can you make a video about the Chinese Civil War? ^^ It"s a rather complex and little known war, whereas I think it is very necessary to talk about it !
On a lot of channels, these world events on a map videos solely focus on changing borders and/or military engagements. I like how this one, despite focusing on the geography and regime changes, does a lot to put the human toll and resistance efforts in the front and center.
