    Your section on Hinge or No Hinge is the best video I have seen on the different swing mechanics of a pitch shot. The detail you cover in using the body vs more wrist hinge rolling the left arm or not and other details are the best I have seen. In the last few years I have been struggling with chipping/pitching yips, but my putting is fine. I have watched many videos and tried several solutions including playing chips and pitches with just using my right arm, which actually worked, but still didn't fix my two arm yips. Lately, I have been practicing using my hips to control my swing (much like you show in your no hinge swing) and am getting consistent results with the yips slowly becoming a thing of the past. I know some profess using little body movement for chips and pitches, but your video confirms it's ok. Thanks.

    Michael, you are the "maestro" of PGA golf instructors on the internet...I haven't seen you for a while and, am so glad you are back...I would disagree with any comments concerning the length and depth of this video...I've been at the game for just over 15 years and, I do put a lot of time into practicing...The "hinge/no hinge" review is an excellent theory to work on....However, I do feel with very short chips, just off the green, any hinge is a death move...Your video addresses more of a short pitch than a true chip, in my humble opinion...I've seen you once in person at the North Jersey Golf Show and, you were very entertaining and, a true gentlemen...Tony Shans

    Exact video I was looking for! Had to save it so I can start using it all. Been trying to figure out ways to take spin off my wedges because they'll check up and spin back and I need to be able to take that out for certain shots. I had moved to the lower spinning Bridgestone Tour B RX from the Tour B XS to try and drop that spin but then I'd miss the spin when I really wanted it. Definitely going to start working through these.

    Last segment is best! Always thought he was a bit info overload but if you can hang till the end that segment is so good at understanding hand and face impacts to spin, launch, carry and run out. Understanding these has an exponential impacts to full swing at far greater speeds.

    I play off been playing for a little over 2 years now had some coaching and am 17
    People be saying that you can't play a flop shot with out hinge but the more you hinge the club in your back swing you are essentialaly de lofting the club and also is lifting the club up higher quicker
    All of this means you have to work so much harder to get that club back to the position you had it at address for the shot you intended on hitting
    However I do feel if you have soft hands and soft arms open the face and have relativily square to open stance the club should naturally hinge the slightest bit due to inertia this method I find is the best for hitting a flop shot not forced

    Hello! Quick question, @21:30 you are talking about creating a higher lofted shot with more spin by rotating your arms in order to create a more open club face. Is this the same result you would get if you were to simply open the face and your stance during set up? Thank you very much!

    • @johnnybgood7442
      @johnnybgood7442 3 года назад +1

      Eessentially yes. I prefer to manipulate the club at address as opposed to altering my swing open or closed. It seems to be more consistent that way since I can make the same swing most of the time. Rotating open and closed brings in too many variables imo.

  • @superque4

    I'm a noob but have great control and success setting my wrists in front of the ball at address and then not hinging until maybe follow through but I'm basically sweeping the ball foo the ground. My aim using this technique is dead on when it was all over the place before. Is this a horrible way to chip or not?

  • @sfink16

    I have a tendency to not follow through on some of my chips. For this reason I always tell myself not to decelerate when chipping. Your description of holding off the follow through has me concerned about decelerating when I try to hold off the follow through. How do I hold off the follow through without decelerating during the shot?

    • @danpianki5205
      @danpianki5205 4 года назад

      Don't think of it as holding off the follow-through, think of it as maintaining (or holding on to) THE ANGLE through contact and the follow-through. So the feel should be that your hands or the butt of the club are out in front, and you can still aggressively move the butt of the club/your hands through the ball while holding that angle. Does that help?

    Michael, congratulations on your new project. This segment is the first I have seen and would suggest that it is much too long and complicated.Remember who is watching this...........enthusiastic but very amateur golfers. If I was to play golf today, I would have a hard time sorting out which of your multiple shots to hit. E.g. keep it simple. Also you need to respond to worthwhile questions........rush 58 below asks a very legitimate question regarding an out to in swing and you need to address it. You obviously have a deep knowledge of the game, and I look forward to hearing more from you

    Chip like you putt. It's all in the movement of the shoulders turning the upper body straight back. Arms, wrists, and grip soft. Weight on front foot always w/front foot open turned close to 45 degrees away from target. Ball forward for more loft, back for less loft. Open clubface for more loft. Watch the lie for flop shot.

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 4 года назад

      In this case, the "over the top" is a correction for an excessive "in to out" motion. Corrections need to be practiced at double to actually arrive at the Correct Path.

    • @sd619brian
      @sd619brian 4 года назад +1

      @rush58 he's telling him to 'feel' like he's over the top with his downswing because it will neutralize his in to out path. It's a feel thing for this particular swing fault, not everyone should practice this.

    WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Later into this video Michael refers to “holding on to the angle” through impact. This just doesn’t happen. All angles are released at impact, regardless of how it feels. Jason Day and Phil Mickelson are virtually the same at impact. I love Michael’s lessons, but this is just an oft-repeated myth.

  • @frednegus7017

    When you say hinge I know you mean cock. There is no hinge in the wrist ( per se ) and there is no hinge at the elbow. There is however a hinging motion which takes place at the lead shoulder. As Moe says : there are no twisting muscles. The take away is three dimensional : it goes back, up and in on the ratio of the inclination established at address. Your device shows effect ( which is ok ) but you really need to discuss CAUSE. Actually you would improve your instruction by understanding both. Cheers

    Another "Square root of the hypotenuse guy" A golf swing isnt that damned complicated. You so called golf instructors try to analyze everything in a golf swing. I bet when you were trying to hit a baseball as achild no one had a slide rule out trying to evaluate your baseball swing but yet you could hit a high fly or a line drive you could shape it to left or right field etc. same with a golf shot. Show me 100 golfers and I'll show you 100 different golf swings!! There is no one way to hit a golf ball period!. know how to piss off a golf coach? Ask them how many PGA championships they have won in their life. And when you get the answer which is most probably none ask them then what gives you the right to think you are qualified to teach golf???? Just saying

    • @DanielFolsom
      @DanielFolsom 3 года назад

      There are a ton of batting coaches, including ones employed by every single major league team, which tell players how they can improve their swing. Yes, there are different styles-he literally endorses using different styles in this video (maybe you should have watched more of it before you wrote a paragraph response?), but that doesn't mean that every swing is correct.
