- Honkai Impact 3rd Part 2 is finally out and I had to check this out being such a Hoyoverse fan! Here are my first impressions on the game, as well as if I think it is worth playing in 2024 or not!
Overall, I did enjoy the game and it is definitely something I could put some time into... but there are things I am a bit worried about! Let me know what you think in the comments!

Tips from a HI3 player:
Dont try hard the Meta, you will burn your wallet.

Definitely worth it, with two conditions: (1) You're into action games, and (2) you have sufficient self-control to play a gacha game. That's it, those are the two biggest barriers.
I'm probably part of the exception in that even originally as a new player, I was never confused by the UI. When you first start out, the game puts you through a surface-level tutorial on general gameplay, and as you level up, more of the UI and gamemodes unlock, that way it's never dumped on you all at once. And if you want more tutorials, those are always available under Attack > Challenge > Trials. They're divided into Mechanics and Character, with the latter allowing you to try out battlesuits to determine if you like their playstyles, which is always useful.
Now, my main account on the America server is a limited-spender account. I have some budget I can spend on the game, and I do it there if I feel like I need a push to get a battlesuit, gear, or even a costume. I have a few rules for the gacha in _HI3_ , though:
1. Never use crystals on the Dorm Supply. You will get Dorm Supply Cards for free that you can use here.
2. New players can ignore the Firepower Supply. This is more for older players to close the gap in their equipment. It's useless to anyone who has everything, and there's too many options to make a guarantee on what you'll get for new players.
3. After ensuring you _want_ to get a battlesuit, then you can focus on the Character / Battlesuit Supply they're on. Once you get them, then you can get their equipment. I generally only go so far as to get the battlesuit, I don't try to rank them up. This means I also leave the ADV Supply alone, unless it's a character I don't have but want. Similarly with the weapons, I try to get them, but not resonate them, not yet.
4. Recognize there is no FOMO. Reruns are frequent, and Pity carries. The only rerun that will not happen, ever, is the _Evangelion_ collab, which was under a one-time, limited-time license. Nobody starting after that version can unlock Blazing Hope or any of the costumes. Period. Everyone else repeats, though battlesuits and gear tend to have special deals when they first debut.
5. Do not pull on SP battlesuits (which can be found in the Asterite Shop), forgeable gear, or battlesuits that can be unlocked through the War Treasury. Just grind to unlock them, and save your crystals for upcoming banners.
Awesome! I'm glad that it doesn't seem as necessary as I originally thought for the gacha system (although I really like senadina so I'm still pulling lol). I figured out that I've been getting a lot of dorm supply tokens so I figured that was more like a "standard banner".

Update: Another reason to get Sena is that apparently she is on Thelema's team as well. Thelema will be in the next version. She is a MECH-Type Ice DPS directly replacing Herrscher of Reason. Her weapon is a chainsword (another new weapon type!), and activating Astral Ring with her will apparently randomly activate either her effect or Sena's. And she and Sena can apparently equally be chosen as the team leader. I don't know who the third member of their team would be, but possibly Coralie to take advantage of the Resonance Marker.
a lot of the coments said it allready to the gacha, for example no 50/50, you hit pitty you get 100% what you are pulling, another point most support valks (most important part of a team) are completely free (normal in-game currency for purchase, no gache currency). some complain about p2w.. well thats true and wrong at the same time. if you plan to go nirvana (the highest level of difficulty and 420 crytals per cycle) on the leader board, it is posible as complete f2p but you need realy to know what your are doing. if you are happy with red lotus (second highest lvl and 400 crytals) you can do whatever you want as long as the teams make even a bit of sense and you have a normal understanding of the game mechanics. some times i take out 4 years or even older chars for red lotus just for fun and it works without a problem. and yes i mostly stay at red lotus because i think its more chill. sometimes if i like it harder i rank up to nirvana but most of the time i prefer the chill version^^
and if you are only interestet in the story, which is by far the biggest focus of the game, then you don't even need to pull because, at least so far, the characters are available as a trial.
I also recommend playing parts 1 and 1.5. You don't need it for part 2 but it makes understanding a lot of things much easier, and if you compare it to HSR or Genshin the story is simply worlds better. For example,if i have to name the antagonist/villain who made the biggest impression on me and who I consider to be the best of his kind. regardless of the medium, be it literature, movie or games. it would be someone from this game

@@abyssenjoyerwell thats your opinion^^, i think even if you only take what you consider to be the "bad" parts of the story, they are still worlds better than anything Genshin has to offer. if you dont like it thats fine every person has different tastes. i saw some people complaining about kianas sniping. i think it was pretty good because it was the first time in the game that we could see directly what Finality is capable of when only a small fraction of its power is used. We've heard a lot about the horror that fin represents. but never experienced it

alright so as a player with about 250~~ days in hi3 and day 1 player hsr (played genshin a lot but now stopped) i can easily say that hi3 is more f2p friendly. Even if i am pretty new player i have : old trio (kiana 4/4,HoO 4/4, HoTr 2/4), new trio (all 4/4), HoS 4/4 (the strongest sup for physical teams till HoRB realese) Horb 1/4 that i got yesterday. HoT almost SS with her 7t. Pe 4/4 with skin. And some more less important but realy good valkyries (like prometheus 4/4) only by buying monthly 4 times i guess, but i could do this without it just by clearing content (im reaaaly slow with this, im still at about chapter 16 old story, a lot shallow sequences in ER, chraonicles etc)
Lets start with basics. Character have much higher rates, same as weapons and stigmatas (with new format of part 2, only what u care about is character and weapon, you can totaly skip stigmatas as u can craft them for free but it only include part 2 characters). At 2nd u said that u dont get limited chracter for 100$ but u dont get that either in hsr or gi. I remind you that in hsr you have 50/50 while in hi3 u have almost guaranteed limited character. And in hsr u get to 5* character ONLY with 1st top up bonus.
Now i can easily say that now is your best time to start a hi3. Now you have option for the cheepest team in entire game (senadina, helia,colarie, all 4/4) for about 40k crystals. For example teams before avreage cost of a team was about 120k crystals (old trio goes up to even 200k. All these calcs are estimation and u probably get these cheaper). Only what u need for new team is senadina, her waepon and helia's weapon. Rest thinggs u can get for free just by playing a game. And on top of that, its one of the strongest team right now in a game and realy flexible. Like u can clear with this team up to 90% of abbys's brute forcing it with this new trio even in redlotus (nirvana is kinda veteran/whale sector).
This definitely feels like a great time to start playing. Ill probably pick up the grind a bit and see if I can't get the weapon and senadina. I'm learning a lot from all the comments too which is fantastic, so thank you!
Tbh as a player who is playing this for 3 years already, I’d say no. The meta is changing so drastically and weapon is a MUST for at least retaining agony3/red lotus. I had to learn it in the hard way that I must follow meta for getting more crystals (especially in endgame). There’s also the fact (imo) after the elysium everlasting arc, the story in h3rd has declined drastically. Now the story (and part2 story as well) has become more about the quantum physics and world building than the characters. Either way, people should try it out if they want, though if you at least want a stable income at the endgame, you must follow the meta or you’ll lose crystals from abyss and memorial arena
I really enjoy the game so far, I'll probably take it much more casually than hsr though
I started a new account on the Europe server to test things. This account is F2P.
It is lv49. I have been closely following the Starter Manual. I also joined a Fleet, and have a Sensei, and all the benefits that comes with.
I have Senadina and her Stigmata, but not her yo-yo.
I have Helia, but none of her gear.
And from the story, I have Coralie and her gear.
That's Elemental DMG in general covered, as well as Lightning and Fire DMG more specifically. They're more or less good enough around lv46 that not much content has given me issues so far.
The Starter Manual gives out Starry Impression, and enough fragments to get her to S-rank. The Cross it gives is for Fire DMG, so that's something to fix. But that's a good start for a Physical + Bleed DMG Team. So I unlocked Valkyrie Quicksand and Terminal Aide 0017 from the Asterite Shop to complete the Physical DMG team (no new player is going to know this. It's a smart idea to ask about team composition, and which battlesuits you should go for unlocking so you can challenge the most content). Susannah is a Physical DMG DPS whose DMG gets converted into Bleed DMG. PROMETHEUS specializes in Shield Break.
These teams cover all but Ice DMG, so when I got enough Asterite again, I unlocked Pardofelis (Reservist Calico), as she is an Ice Support who can support Lightning or Fire as well (with the Turganev Stigmata set). I play on getting Li Sushang and Herrscher of Reason from the War Treasury, but for now I cannot get one of the currencies for that since my level is too low. One advantage to HoR is that her Stigmata are forgeable, so all you need from the gacha is her weapon. And it takes at least the signature weapon to start to bring a battlesuit's real strength out. It takes 20,000 Asterite to unlock an SP unit from the Asterite Shop, so I have already spent 60,000 Asterite in the couple weeks since Part 2 launched. There are a few more battlesuits that would be worth unlocking, like Chrono Navi and Sugary Starburst, but after that I plan on replacing the younger Griseo with the older. I don't need to do that yet, only once I have other DMG more fully covered.
Outside of the upcoming battlesuits we can only speculate about, there are few that are must-haves because of the quickly-changing meta. Most of them are because they are new, and therefore the most powerful ones for their DMG or type, or because of their versatility. Fenghuang of Vicissitude just came out in the previous version, and she is a BIO-Type Fire DMG DPS. She directly replaces Dea Anchora, who is also a BIO-Type Fire DPS. So that's an example of powercreep happening. An example of the second type , versatile battlesuits, is Herrscher of Truth: She is an Ice DPS, Lightning Support, and Fire Support all in one, and she does this better than Pardo and Azure Empyrea. This will likely keep her in demand for a long time. Herrscher of Sentience and Herrscher of Rebirth are similar cases, except that both can be DPS and Support in Physical Teams. It's important to decide who and what you want.
One of the biggest advantages to the gacha in _Hi3_ is that the battlesuit and equipment supplies don't have a 50/50 to lose, which is why it can be worth it even at 280 crystals per pull (it[s also easier to earn crystals than primogems). That and you can pully gear your battlesuit if you pull enough, unlike having to farm for artifacts or relics. But if you want, you can also forge a passable set of gear with enough materials that you farm playing the game. Gacha gear only matters if you want to be competitive in the endgame content, because the game gives you Trial versions of battlesuits for the story mode when it matters. So why gacha? Mostly because you want to. Hopefully not because of an addiction. Seek help if it's the latter case.
Thank you for all these tips! I've been using the trial characters to try and understand a bit more and try to learn how to setup team compositions. Especially when looking through stigmata and such. I appreciate the help!
As a ~7 year player who quit recently, I gotta say Honkai Impact 3rd (HI3) is an extraordinary game plagued by p2w and gacha.
First of all, the combat. It is, in my opinion, the best of Hoyoverse's games by a long shot, even before part 2 came out. Not only are the skills flashy, it is also filled with complex strategies. There are so many buffs and debuffs to consider for weapons, stigmata, and valkyrie skills in addition to evasion and QTE timing. I estimate about 90% of the player base don't know how to play with high level strategies, even some who've reached max level.
That being said, the game is horrendously p2w, although I've only spent $15 on the game. The abyss game mode has you competing with other players. I've reached the highest abyss tier several times, but at some point, no amount of skill can surpass the raw power of fully equipped whales. It has certainly made me lose interest over time. When the abyss is a major source of free crystals, that makes it harder for light spenders and f2p to to get enough for pulls. (Note that this experience is on Chinese server, which is known for whales)
Anyway, the takeaway is that i recommend you enjoy the game casually. The devs have been cooking up some of the coolest character skills these past few years. Also, I recommend checking out the part 1 story. It gets really emotionally powerful, and I consider it to be one of the best video game stories of all time.
That's great to hear for the story! Yeah I don't think I'll be as heavy into this one as I am hsr, but I'm glad I'll be able to enjoy it for a long while!
Yes the p2w and overpriced predatory gacha are the reasons I quit too. This game survives purely off a small pool of whales and support from Genshin and Star Rail

Do not worry about crystal i made like 40k on last patch
Astral op is not that really needy I am really f2p have 4 4 characters for most of the new characters and supports and with part 2 the characters are cheaper to get all you need is like 40k or 35k if you lucky now, if you high level that is easy to get in 2 patchs or sometimes 1. New players get alot of crystals so makeing like 50k from pure story alone is possible.
All this game needs is your time.

Honkai Impact 3rd is by far my longest played and favourite gacha game, and one of my favourite games in general. So from a long time player to a new one, heres some tips, advice and opinions.
Ignore the dorm supply. Its like the standard banner in hsr, you'll get tickets for it but u should never spend to pull on it.
The character gacha may seem like its pity is too high, but there is no 50/50. Senadina is the only S rank on her banner, and all of HI3rd's banners work this way, and the rate is 1.5% which is over double hsr and genshin's rates at 0.6%. As long as you are smart with your pulls, and know what ur going for u should be able to pull the characters to clear the content in which u actually need characters to clear (elysian realm: deep sequence, memorial arena, abyss). But since the story provides you with fully geared characters you can honestly just omit getting the characters entirely.
If you don't want to pull for the best in slot stuff you can always forge the weapons in the foundry, the ones on the banner are like the signature lightcones, you can craft sena, helia and coralie's stigmata in the foundry as well. The signature stuff are really only important for competetive stuff like the abyss (timed pve with a leaderboard to rank up or down), or memorial arena (timed bossing with leaderboard), which are entirely optional, even in the elysian realm you can get by with the f2p gear if u know what ur doing.
Weekly income of xtals generally come from the elysian realm (500 a week), abyss (240 to 420 every 3 days between agony 2 to nirvana ranks), memorial arena (140 a week), and daily missions (30 a day). Each character also nets you another 600 in the elysian realm.
Regarding the story, part 2 will use lingo from part 1. Herrschers, authorities, sea of data/ quanta, bubble worlds etc. There are lore videos on the HI3rd youtube channel that can help with understanding these, along with the animated shorts.
As for my own opinions, part 1's stories and characters are some of the best ive ever seen. Each character is well developed and have separate reasons and motivations. A few of them have personal connections to helia and coralie in part 2.
And If you like music, i highly recommend giving their songs a listen, they are the songs for each animated short and are absolutely amazing. You can even find the songs in the town shop in HI3rd part 2 and play them on the jukebox on your room

Daily you get 40 cristals, and you can get 540 cristals on the bp without buying it, I wouldnt count the character trials or level rewards in ER but that place is a cristal mine for the new captains, as for every caracter there you can get the 600 cristals you mentioned and 20 more if you get all the special signets

Few things to point out here and there.
The gacha requires 2800 crystal but there is no pity and you get two items instead of one like most gacha games.
On top of it,you dont get useless 3* dupes of the same thing over and over again, instead,you get various mats and plenty of coins and exchange mats.
Shop is shit though. Dont let anyone convince you otherwise.
Also heavily recommend to play through part one story. Ch 11-12 and any mission involving himeko is a major slog but otherwise its absolutely good.

As a f2p player in hi3rd. Deny the meta and try to save crystals where you can get a guarantee of getting a character together with her weapons and stigmata. I learned the hard way wasting all my crystals on a Valkyrie with not enough crystals for her weapon. The temptation is hard and also crystals are getting more scarce as you get closer to endgame but it's okay mistakes makes us wiser.
True that! Great advice ! Luckily as a new player I was able to get everything for the 3 new characters. But I'll definitely have to be more careful when I start running out of gem spots lol

i mean... in star rail you also don't guarantee a 5 star with a $100 not even talking about possibly losing 50 50 as well as 1 dollar doesn't get you a pull in HSR so i don't really know what you are on about there plus the cost of the 10 pulls doesn't really matter without the context of how much you are given as rewards for playing the game

trying to like it but the game is too grindy, just playing story takes forever to get enough for half a 10 pull, idk any other ways to get gems
There's a good bit of ways. Get a sensei from the friends list, join an armada, do the weekly stuff , follow the starter manual etc
I can say, that this game is the most f2p friendly game of MiHoYo. Yes, you need 2,8k crystals for a ten pull, but you have a guarantee after 100. In HSR and Genshin, you'll need 180 pulls (in the absolute worst case). So that means, that you need 8k crystals less than in the other two games to get what you want.
When you're far enough into the game, you can easily get ~1,2k+ crystals per week just by doing dailies, abyss and elysian realm.
The other thing is, that you can farm every single A-rank (equivalent to the 4-stars) character, so you never have to pull for them. Once you have reached the max rank (equivalent to eidolon/constellations), you can exchange the overflowing upgrade pieces for other characters pieces. And you can even farm for S-ranks (5-stars). Sometimes even brand new S-ranks are farmable or you get them from events, but this is rare (mostly when there is an aniversary). Every character in the game shares the same upgrade materials. No mindless individual grind for every single character needed.
Good gear is also farmable. Maybe it's not perfect, but it most cases (as long as you stay casual) it's enough. The substats of stigmata can all be rerolled as many times as you have material for it and since you can save loadouts for characters, you can even swap them around as much as you like (not in abyss though...).
Next good thing is, that elemental damage can't crit, so you don't have to care for crit stats when playing an elemental character. Just put a bunch of attack and elemental attaack on it and you'll be fine.

I started 1 month ago and alreadly got kiana herrsher of finality, her signature weapon, and her set of stigmatas (her entire kit)
Now im farming my mei equips, i got her signature weapon and eveolved both mei and kiana weapons to pri weapons (like a supee version of the weapon)
They give blastmetal for free with her weapon and full stigmata set alreadly upgraded to lvl 50(its a sea of resources to up this, so im glad they did this)
And every A rank character can be upgraded to SSS fre to play ❤❤❤
For now im testing a lot of characters so i will not put any character pass SS rank.
I recomend you getting Crono Navi, she is the universal support for the F2p like us. All the supports in the game are f2p ❤❤❤

Yeah I'm learning that it isn't restricted as I thought, which is great! I will definitely want to post more Hi3 as I get more familiar! The comments have been especially helpful which is awesome to see as a new player too!
@@GachaMogul people normally says that this game is unfairly p2w but they forget that here we compete in leaderboards, i can get to 0.5% in my category easily, but if i get promoted i can only make to 15% wich is a good score board for someome who cant dodge well.
To me the only boss that i had some dificulty was Kallen, i dindt had a phisical dps.
I recommend you build 4 teams (not that dificult, 1 month and you can farm all the supports from this teams) one phisical and 3 elemental, its good to have more options for a dps too, my mei HoT is a Psy character so she does 30% more dmg to Mech enemies but 30% less to biologic enemies.

@@joaocarlosii2188 Honkai Impact makes you compete for rewards, has pretty heavy power creep, and has a weather system that forces you to use certain units, especially newly released ones. You better not take a break or you’ll come back to your favorite characters being too weak and you’ll have to work your way up again from the bottom ranks. Yes, you can get older characters very easily, but that’s after they have had their time in the sun with favorable weather. I think it’s funny that you’re judging others opinions when you haven’t even been playing long enough to see the truth.

Dont get blinded by the fact that there is no 50/50. Daily gems gain is abysmal(also u need 2 point fuckking 8 thousand gems per 10 pull). S rank without their signature weapons suvks balls so you are obliged to pull for it. But the story is great though.. And the banger ost's
At least I'll still have tons of gems to catch up on since just starting now. The team of the 3 new characters shouldn't be too hard to obtain I think
AK requires 6000 and has 50-50. It's still considered one of the best gachas.

Cuz this game is basically a massive story spanning 40+ chapters and extra contents outside the game in various forms( manga, visual novel) which tells a tale about people that strive to do good and protect the beauty in the world even if the world was against them
Not to mention that it comes with a great action combat game pretty neat
It got 2 DLC so far which is free IN GAME
And they don't even have any relation to the gacha😮
Why? Cause the devs wants to make a game and tell a story
Making profit to make more cool shit is always welcome and tbh it's working
So if you're into a massive story progression game (which is totally free and they actually deny your gacha unit anyway)
And some crazy DMC gameplay on the 2 free DLC in game
