  • Ever built a balsa wood wing from scratch?
Well we have and in this video you can see how!!!
    Cut out the airfoils
    we winged it
    (get it )
anyway you could download an exact one.
we made these slowly get smaller
    then add groves
    cut strips
    put strips in grooves
    ad some glue
    fiddle perfect, sand
    get tissue paper
    glue it on with uhuh
sprey with mentholated spirits and water 50-50
    sand of excess.
    mount to pre prepared fuselage
    throw and be happy!!!!
make video and share your build
    All filmed on my phone!!!!

Thank you so much, started looking into how to scratch build these things, but now my plan is a 2 meter wide wing span so this will be fun

nice build, thanks for shairing, my question is why use methylated spirit with water, why not just water spry?

methylated spirit aka alcohole is used to reduce the shrink rate :)

Awesome, balsa wood is a bit thick, but it breaks sort of easily, but it is very soft! It feels like foam, right? I used it at school

If you're watching and want to download a glider plan - google - "carbon crimson glider rcgroups" - they have detailed plans / steps / photos. My latest thinking though is a hybrid hotwire foam wing approach + with carbon tube + Laminate foam wings cores with brown kraft paper / maybe balsa fuesalge would probably give best buck.

thanks for posting. good work. here are some things to consider. at 1:50, i KNEW things would go sideways, pretty soon. it appears that the design of the wing does Not include a (fuselage-spanning) center-section. next time, SPLURGE. invest in some PINS and WAX PAPER and a suitably-sized piece of Foamboard. build the wing ' UP ' by starting with the LOWer spar; Pinned in PLACE, on wax-paper, to a piece of foamboard. for precision of assembly, draw-up the rib layout (using a t-square, etc.); put the drawing Underneath a piece of wax-paper; on top of foamboard. ribs (and Most of the elongated bits) can be held in place, without damage, by using 3 pins, per rib. at 3:35, make Notches in the trailing edge piece, to receive the ends of the ribs, for a Better Join. at 3:47, just W R O N G. a wing Should Have a CONTIGUOUS leading edge component. one method is to make a 90-degree notch at the forward end of each rib, to receive (at an Angle) a Square/Rectangular piece. or see my tutorial. it appears that the wing has Zero dihedral. if so, and it is used as part of a rc model, the model will NOT turn, in response to rudder inputs. cheers googletranslate
in linked drawing, the use of a Square, and Contiguous leading edge component is indicated

Thanks for taking the time to write!!!!
I have built a few balsa kits before and,
yeah i normally use wax paper and pins for my builds.
we gave the wing a bit of Dihedral but not much i agree
and really this was not intending to be RC any time soon though it could be!!!!
we were just having fun with what my friend had and thought i should make a video
I just checked out your channel and you really are a pro!!!!
      that build is really awesome!!!!
