Thanks for the video, you gave me insights. I can't believe I fixed my unit, in the bottom, front of the transport a plastic tab securing the spring broke off. Disassembly to the location was tough, soldering iron staked on the very small tab from your video tip. I found the tab in the case on first disassembly. I was chasing a 'red herring', a black spring found in the case, probably twanged during manufacture. We'll see if the staking holds.
At least you didn't have to spend a whole day re-aligning it or re-doing the timing (from scratch). Looks like a relatively straightforward repair. Another one working. IMHO auto head cleaners are a bad idea - whenever I've serviced a VCR I usually remove the head cleaner (if it has one fitted) as these tend to go hard with age and can damage the heads and/or score the drum plus I also recommend to the owner(s) not to use cheap-ass supermarket brand videotapes or head cleaning cassettes as they do more harm than good.
I watched an episode for the first time with headphones; stereo sound, baby! Funny how you are talking in one ear and then the other while you lean from one side to the other trying to get at the device.
I have an OLD Jvc (forgot the model no.,but one of the earliest front-loader). The casette carriage seems as thick as my car's chassis. If I sit on top of that it should have no problem lifting my ass up&spit me out. It is really that massive. Comparing to this late model chassis...well,it seems like a joke to me.
I hated the auto load slot type. My HR7100U top load was the best. Video sig was so strong I used a small rabbit ears and could broadcast movies over the first floor of my house 😛 . Alas, the old girl past away from ps failure..18 years of faithful service.
Great. Incidently, rabbit ear antennas are not the right shape for capturing the stations in UHF. You need a loop antenna. I burnt my hands restoring an old vacuum-tube radio with the 300B+. My VCR will not accept my tape now. It's very frustrating because before I opened it up to fix another problem but not the tape won't go in unless I really force it. Plus it won't let me eject the tape either once I get it in. @12voltvids
I have a Magnavox VCR/DVD combo in excellent condition. The vcr will accept the tape but after I put the tape in, it will not play, it turns itself off. Any ideas?
Today I resumed my JVC HD- rr 949 after a few years I didn't pay a look at it. Whe I tried to load a tape it didn't and after a few seconds went into stand by. Looking around for help I found this video so I was confident to open the device. I did it and after a few tests I can say that I can load a tape manually (with my hands, turning the white gear on the left of the loading block) and then the tape plays back normally and all the other stuff works. If I eject, the unloading mechanism doesn't move and after a few seconds the VCR goes on stand by. Would you be so kind to give me some advice on where to look to troubleshoot this problem? Is the load/unload motor the one I can see on the right, just in front of the right low screw of the drawer? I see that one starting and stopping. Thank you (from a frightened ghost village at 30km from Milan...)
Nice Work. Thanks for sharing. 1 Question please. I have a few VCR's and 1 thing I see ONLY in JVC units it that small round disc about 1 inch diameter, at the top left near the spinning heads. It spins rapidly when the tape is inserted and moving past the heads. What is it? And why do I only see it in JVC machines?
@@emn8or Sony had them on 8mm models as did other manufacturers. When spinning the idea is it would act as a second capstan on the supply side which would negate slight tension changes caused by the mechanical back tension band.
