On that day that you met up with them, Airtime Thrills' daughter said "either it's weak or I have a dead soul." He assured her her soul was in good order.
This was my first Hyper Coaster, so I have a soft spot to defend it. I love the first half between the thrill of the hills and the scenery. For the back half I usually use my feet to boost my airtime to jazz up the ride.
I literally just rode this for the first time about five minutes ago. It’s better than I thought, it’s not perfect, but it’s pretty good. I like the tunnel.
Wild thing. You make my heart sing. Lol! Looks petty underrated! Michigan’s Adventure was supposed to get a 210 foot Morgan coaster before cf bought them out
Michigan's Adventure really got screwed over. I don't know why they still own it, because they've basically done nothing to it since they bought it. At least Shivering Timbers fulfills the hyper niche, despite not being a hyper. But I wish that Morgan hyper was added. Really would've given them a one-two punch of airtime machines.
I couldn’t hear the example You provided in the video where then expected Sound is the coasters MCBR. I imagine however that it is rather loud and noticeable in person. Also, I agree the tunnel has always been an eyesore. It looks like a 1994 semi attached house in Staten Island.
I feel the same as you about it. I expected to be underwhelmed, and it met those expectations. The line went away in the late afternoon. I got a couple rides in both the front & back. It seemed to be slightly better than Mamba at the time, but my full train Mamba rides during Haunt last year were excellent.
I think if Wild Thing would have been better if it it had more time to plan for Valleyfair instead of the Dorney Park project being rushed over to Valleyfair. What I find interesting is I have a Roller Coaster! Magazine with Steel Force as the main story. When Morgan was asked if Wild Thing would’ve had the same layout if it was built at Dorney, they replied “the topography would have changed the actual design somewhat. The station was going to be at the lower end of the lake but then it was switched”. Kinda makes me wonder how things would be different if Wild Thing was built at Dorney and Valleyfair getting the second Morgan hyper.
Growing up with family in Minnesota, I've gotten many rides on Wild Thing over the years. When I made it out to Dorney Park earlier this year, I was expecting more of the same in Steel Force. I was pleasantly surprised when that ride served me a buffet of airtime. In the end, I felt even more dissatisfied with Wild Thing, knowing the potential that it has. C'mon Valleyfair, unleash the beast!
There is actually a video of Wild thing where the Ride op turns off the trims, starts acting crazy with the guests, And when the ride hits the final brake run, *actual sparks of fire* starts coming off the wheels. Crazy times in 1998.
Intamin's Reverse Freefall Coasters may actually take that record technically. They feature about 6 and a half seconds of weightlessness on their tower. 5 seconds is generally the longest that you'll get on coasters. They are pretty much exclusively found on floater camelbacks or on the drops of giga coasters, but they could also probably be found on drawn out speed hills.
I find it slightly amusing that people nickname the coaster "Mild Thing" because Valleyfair actually used to have a kiddie coaster with that name until 2010, and it was replaced with the Cosmic Coaster at Planet Snoopy the following year. I kinda miss it honestly.
The Morgan hypers in the Cedar Fair chain seem to have been intended as updated versions of Magnum XL-200. The layouts are heavily inspired by it, and Steel Force and Mamba have the same paint scheme. I think the reason for the harsh mid course trim on Wild Thing is due to the short final brake run. Steel Force and Mamba have longer brake runs. I think all 3 of the Morgan hypers can run 3 trains, but Wild Thing may set up like Magnum does if dispatches are too slow. I'm not sure if the final brake run can hold 2 trains.
actually all 3 Morgan hypers would set up in trims like Magnum does if they ran 3 trains. That's probably part of why none of them will ever run 3 trains ever again.
@@cofcoasters The trims as in the mid course? Steel Force definitely has room to stack both trains behind the station, but I'm not sure if the blocks are designed that way. Magnum does set up, but it's still close to the station. I've never seen Steel Force run 3 trains, so I wouldn't know how it actually works.
I just got back from Steel Force. Steel Force was pretty powerful and made me gray out a decent amount. The hills on SF's return trip also had great float! Shame that Wild Thing's MCBR hits just a bit too hard...
There was a rumor that at one point the ride broke, causing the coaster to keep going around the loop and not being able to come to a stop. Not sure if that's related to the brake breaking like you mentioned in the video. Another rumor I've heard was that there was some sort of derailment at one point that caused a death or serious injury.
I know the brakes have to work hard if the mid-course doesn't hit (as evidenced by the sparking on the video I showed). There was an incident in 2006 when a brake fin came loose. No one was seriously hurt.
If you have the platinum pass, what’s the next Cedar Fair park to visit after CP, KI, KD, and KBF? I have also been to Dorney because it’s the closest one to me.

I have been on this coaster more times than I can say yes. I always experience it with heavy trim. But I have seen it run three trains at one point in my life
I think magnetic brakes at the end would help. They should "bite" the bullet and beef up the bunny hills so as to not have to or lightly trim it with magnetic s there. Problem with the tires (I think they are like Arrows) Polyurethane bonded to aluminum wheel. Those (tires) can throw from time to time, so you have to keep on top of maintenance. Nylon presents its own problem, but tends to last longer. I mentioned that the brakes sounded like Fleetwood Cadillac taking out a row of steel trash cans! But, kudos to the cool paint job. Now lets work on that tunnel.
The original kids' roller coaster, which might have opened with the park, was actually called Mild Thing when Wild Thing opened--later demolished and replaced with the current Cosmic Coaster. When it opened, WT was far superior compared to Excalibur. But time has not been kind to it, nor have those mid-course trims. So, the moniker "Mild Thing" for the original WT, while very shady given that name's connection to the original kiddie coaster, is indeed applicable.
It really is quite fun and worth seeking out, the second half just feels sadly monotonous (relatively). It's kind of like sledding down a hill. The sled ride down is amazing, but then you have to carry the sled back up the hill and you just wish you could hurry that up to repeat the good part of the experience again.
one time rode it in the back in 2022 it was running fast that time floated the whole time even after the trims but didn't happen the time i rode it after
It's a shame Wild Thing's mid-course hasn't been dialed back much, as I can vouch for the fact that Mamba doesn't trim very hard anymore, so the return run gives strong floater airtime.
I just rode Mamba for the first time a couple days ago and the mid-course seemed to barely hit and those last hills were pretty awesome. I wonder if it has to do with the system upgrade they're currently performing on the ride, since it's only operating with one train for now.
Because of Mamba's new control panel it has pretty unreliable this combined with the fact that the park is only running one train has caused the wait times to be in 70-90 minutes on weekends and 30ish minutes on weekdays
If wild thing was a b&m instead of a morgan using the same plot, it could be one of the best coasters out there. However, that's not realistic as of now. Hopefully VF and Chance Morgan give this ride a refurbishment so that it can run trimless
Mamba no longer slows down and hangs over the edge of the first drop. Wild Thing is most certainly not Mild Thing but it's absolutely no Mamba, in row 3 on my most recent visits to Valleyfair Wild Thing's b brake didn't hit too hard (but still much harder than Steel Force and Mamba do as of late) and I got strong floater airtime on the return run, but most definitely not the strong flojector airtime of Steel Force or the strong ejector airtime of Mamba
i rode it today for the first time this year it's even worse as now it has zero air time so bad i'd say to RMC it with the raptor track or tear down and rebuild it as a replica but take out the trims

This looks like the worst of the Morgan Hypers. It's airtime isn't there, at all, the tunnel is cool I guess but overall this doesn't really do anything. I think even Corkscrew or High Roller might be better rides just cause they are more intense. Definitely the GP standout but that doesn't make it an enthusiast favorite.
