All great films hold up regardless of when, or capabilities of past or current technology. Wizard of Oz, Sunset Blvd, ET, 2001 Space Odyssey, M, The Birds, A Night To Remember, Titanic, Casablanca, Jaws, Anatomy Of a Murder, Roman Holiday, Run Lola Run, 12 Angry men, All About Eve, Aliens, Godfather, Sound of Music, Fargo, Witness for the Prosecution, Paths of Glory, Cool Hand Luke, Dial M for Murder, La Confidential; on and on and on,….all hold up. We won’t look back on the overdose of the cgi and “digital video” film era in 50 yrs and say the same however.
Great intro. The disembodied dialogue, no music, is just unsettling enough to hint that this trip is gonna go very wrong. It doesn’t say so, but it says so.
Burt Reynolds Went From A B-Movie/TV Actor Straight To A Motion Picture Actor,Burt Reynolds Became A Household Name.Because Of The Success Of Deliverance.
One my all time favourite films. Funny thing is I put this film on when I have had arough day at work and after I feel better? Panavision and Technicolour the best combination ever followed by Supermarionation :)
I was a kid in the hills of Pennsylvania when this movie came out. Long before I ever saw this movie, on a quiet day we could hear the blasting horns going off and then the explosion miles and miles away from where we lived. My dad drove the big 85 ton "Eucs" (short for Euclid) that hauled the overburden away. He then later operated the dragline. Anyway, when the blasting scene happens, I'm immediately transported back to that time when things weren't so damn complicated like they are now. I miss that time. I wish it would come back.
Some consider me the most advanced student of this great film. And in my opinion - this is the best (and funniest) opening scene of ANY film ever made.
What's funny about the endless destruction of natural places? This story was generally about Carters Lake, GA. The biggest invaders this century are industrial wind turbines (air dams), which shallow environmentalists think are entirely different than water dams, somehow. There's a climate-psychosis where we're supposed to accept this vast, new sprawl, and not respect nuclear power which could actually save the planet.

I always site the 1973 Oscars as the best example of what a fraud the Academy Awards are. Reynolds deserved the Oscar for supporting actor that year, yet wasn’t even nominated. He carries the films first half and sets the viewer up for Not only was Brando undeserving of the Oscar, but was in a supporting role in The Godfather, as it was actually Pacino’s film, and Pacino should have won for best actor. And Voight deserved a Best Actor nod for his amazing transformation, which was only outdone by Pacino’s amazing transformation.
Deliverance still holds up to be a great looking film even for the 70s film. Look so modern.

The sound of the siren is almost like a foreboding sign of what will happen to these men.
I was thinking the same thing
One of those movies that once you start it you can't stop it.
OMG that's what i thought
Every time I go out on lake Lake Jocassee. I think about this movie...
Same
I lived right near it for almost 20 years and this is my first time ever seeing the opening scene like this

RIP Burt Reynolds
I have always wondered if this is a film meant to be about the bravery of men, the foolishness of men, or a combination of both.
Mainly about how if you allow people to rape land, they will eventually rape your butthole, too. Doesn't pay to be a bitch.
Thanks for this Fr
thank you!

I was thinking about this scene while up at Guthega Dam on the Snowy River.
