Rabeau is the best demo guy on the net. His playing is never annoying and always super tasteful. I wish I had half his chops. This amp sounds really good.
I bought one of these a few weeks back and i have a love hate relationship with it. Like nearly all units which have lots of preset patches i find most are useless but the ones i like and that are of use to me are great. The good side as with most multi patch units is that you can edit them to what you do like. I really don't know where Poster Lous Topic is coming from as this is one of the quietest units i have ever owned and the noise gate is brilliant. if he thinks this is noisy try a Mesa Boogie triaxis, fried eggs all round. This demo is one of the best i have seen but still does not show this am off to it's full ability. I run mine in my studio and not live so it is connected to my mixer and not speakers. The Di is ok but i find i get a better sound taking the out from the headphone using a split 1/4" stereo jack to two XLR (L&R) to two mixer channels to get the proper Stereo. Some of the factory patches either have a heavy pumping bass or a "wasp buzz" treble and the Di makes it sound worse. Someone here mentioned comparing this with a Kemper!! DON'T as it is a different animal and more than twice the price for hundreds more weird patches you will never use.
The XLR male or female? I've been looking at the laney sls, the amp1 iridium but I'm swinging towards this floor amp, I will not be using a cab, running the amp into a tascam dp32sd portastudio and using the monitor speakers for sound, the set up you use work the same in stereo for this and is this campaign no cab on ok to do without damaging it, hopefully buying on Wednesday, but if it will not work well in this set up is rather hang fire till I can sort the right amp
Alan-ky5kd - i wouldnt bother with all the presets - switch it to Stomp ox ode and adjust the pots to your ear - i use external pedals with it for delay chorus etcc in combination with its channels clean, crunch, lead etc and stomp them in and out - it actually stores your settings in stomp box mode ckean, crunch etc to the last time you used it try it my friend- it lets you get interactive with the amp rather than relying on presets which are generally over cooked
Definitely cool, Bea, and well done on the demo. I’ve got an H&K Switchblade 50 that is kind of where they started a lot of what this unit does. Nice to see them keeping what works and still moving on with the times.
Man! H&K are going for the jugular with this amp line. Great demo as usual, Bea! Been a long time subscriber, it's crazy how the channel has growth in quality and abundance in content keep it up!
I'm glad I found this review. This amp might very well be in my near-future. I've already ditched the Helix and have been rolling with the Pod Go. This has even greater appeal in that it's an actual AMP. The Ultra tones were nuts! =)
Thanks Rabea.. Great vid as always, and one of ypur best Reviews in my opinion.. so good in fact that this solid review was all I really needed to pull the trigger.. it will be arriving tomorrow. Been using modeling boards for quite some time now, I play in a party band, and cover everything from German volks music to ACDC and everything in between. Modeling seemed like a great option for me, I'm not the young man I used to be, and that way I didn't have to lug around multiple amps and or cabs. But in time I miss the dynamics of playing an actual amp. Been eying this thing for quite some time, for me.. exactly the tones I want and need, with the flexibility and ease of a one piece rig that you can go direct to house, or push a cab for smaller gigs. This video helped me pull the trigger!! Thanks Rabea.. you're a beast!
What a great review!! been running line 6 gear for quite some time, love the sounds but never get that tube punch and compression. This seems to really do it well. Gonna give it a try in December and see if it lives up to challenge. LOL. thanks again. your videos are the best.
Another top shelf post, Bea. BTW... I do hope that’s your Penguin, and not just a loaner... we know how much you’ve wanted one, so cheers! Be well my friend.
We share liking the nr3 high gain sound, right there i thought, yes H&K , they rule when it comes to that specific fat high gain sound. Its a great floor board!
Ran my grand master into the ground after alot of hard gigs, blew the redbox (which im more then gutted about). Still chugs away like a champ.. would love an upgrade but i got a feeling i wont be able to afford this for a while XD
can I connect this amp into my 2 active frfr cabs ? should I lower the output knob on frfr cabs or lower the master on black spirit ? can’t find this info.. thanks a lot guys
@@MrEstpas71 Really sounds fine to me. People complain about his Mercury 1 edition doesn't sound good. I have it love it. so different strokes for different assholes
Great demo as always. I'd like to hear this recorded as you normally do, from the speaker out into a torpedo (I believe you said this was from the RedBox into your interface?). The reason is that I'm hearing a "fizzy sizzle" that I NEVER hear when you do tube amp demos in the normal "speaker out > torpedo" way. It didn't matter which cab you used, it was always there. EQ might fix it, but I've never heard it in any of your other demos (inc the H&K GM 40, even when you used the RedBox). Thanks for some tasteful playing!
@@aconcretefuture - lol. That is always a possibility at club gigs. That's when you hope the drunken idiot doesn't fall and hit their head on a piece of band equipment. That's why you carry your lawyer's number at all times.
It's such a shame that the Ultra channel high gain is basically a hard rock type of sound. Not for heavy metal at all. If it had more distortion and a bit tighter I would have bought two of these.
@@thommysguitarcorner4687 disagree. I've owned one. No where near tight enough even with boost. Even with OD pedal. I now own the Bluguitar amp1 iridium......THAT thing can "djent".
@Jeremy Conner i like the hughes and kettner sound. It kinda has the old 90s hm2 sound but, it could use a bit more distortion and tightness for the chugs. Otherwise its a fantastic amp. The Iridium has the perfect amount of tight gain for chugs
Subjective, not everyone will need or use a cab. I do have a H&K 1x12 and a power cab plus so In my case it’s just the cost of the unit. I’ve ordered the head to try in the studio for recording, so it won’t be using a speaker. Plus if you need a cab then that’s a cost no matter which amp you get. If you like the H&K tone like the GrandMeister then I think this gets you close but no valves to worry about and lighter / cooler. Most places are offering 30 days no obligation return policy these days so it’s pretty much risk free to try one 🤘
I feel like really everyone I see loves H&K but I can't get myself to like them. They are so noisy and loose in the high gain. they feel so muffled and I didnt liked em with a tubescreamer either. I don't know, I just dont like the gainstructure :'D
Sorry but here's my review. 👎 Ordered one. Got it home. Soon as I opened and saw them cheesy buttons sticking way out of it and how loose they are, red flags started flying. After setting it up to my interface going through monitors and headphones it didnt take long to realize this things going back. Want some real advice people? Save your money, get a credit card, whatever but get a kemper. This thing is no where close to the quality of a kemper.

No, you can line out to a powered frfr. It’s a solid state power amp so no load needed.
@@CedricSatterfield thanks:)
Great vid! I‘d like to hear it in comparison with a Kemper. Did anyone checked both the Kemper and the black spirit?
Can you run this in stereo?
What neck pup are you using in your sig? Is there a single coil sized version of the Silo that I don't know about or is it stock?
I cannot get the ultra channel sound good at all Rabea as here
Almost eruption at the start there :)

Geeeeez. I'm running a Grandmeister Deluxe 40 right now and this things is giving me bad/good/bad thoughts. 😆
Can you use this into a frfr speaker using the red box ? And will it sound rubbish ?
Its meant for either full range or guitar gear (power amp and cab)
I have the BS 200 head and run it into a Friedman ASC 12. It sounds awesome.
Ok so apart from being a floor amp..there is no other difference to the head version?
Nice demo like always ... What are you're thought and feelings about this versus modeler(Neural DSP) ?
DSP - Don’t Spend your Pennie’s on the neural
I have the head. The Ultra channel is kinda muddy.
I thought so too at first but started keeping the gain at 9 to 10 o'clock, presence up, bass at 10 o'clock and no sagging, I really like it now.
Muddy? I call it warm or dark.
What about using other guitar with lower output pickups, cause that sucks
How does this stack up against a katana 100?
You mean how does the katana stack up against this thing. Not very good at all
Did it ever get pristine?
What do you think is better for a solid state, boss katana or black spirit?
Dude Black Spirit Floor all the way. This thing is fully programmable! 128 presets if you want it and all the other features. No Brainer!
Dude BS 2 all the way. Katana is dip shitting in obscurity cause of its tonality incompetence
I have a floor amp that will not change dispay and shows 56 always... any ideas on how to clear because I can bank up or down. Thank you.
Try a reset
@@spada60 ty that works. It was caught between the two.. sorry for delay 😀 response
All those features and there's no tuner? Not a deal breaker, but surprising.
Who cares bout a tuner. Just clip a tuner onto your guitar headstock and your all set.
It's such a shame that the Ultra channel high gain is basically a hard rock type of sound. Not for heavy metal at all. If it had more distortion and a bit tighter I would have bought two of these.
